Goals by strikers Cowell and Beddows eased Lido U
14's into the next round
of the Boys and Girls Federation Cup with a comfortable victory
over a
spirited Gowerton side.The game played at the Marston's Stadium on
a bitterly cold night was dominated by the Lido side and the result was never
in
doubt. Infact the margin of victory flattered the away side with
the Gowerton goalkeeper having to be in outstanding form.
Lido started the game as favourites and from the start attacked
their opponents goal, however it was Gowerton who took the lead when an
innocent
free kick floated into the area was put into their own net by a
Lido defender. This spurred on the Lido and within 10 minutes normality
had been restored with the two goal being scored and at half time Lido led
2-1.
The second half was one way traffic with the Lido midfield totally dominating proceedings only to find that final ball going astray
.The Lido keeper Thomas was totally unemployed during this period occasionally
coming into play as a result of a back pass but was never troubled by the
Gowerton
attack.
For the Lido ,once again young Daniel O'Brien the 'general' in the
back four led by example with a perfect display of defence and passing
skills .All five midfielders in Harris, Jones, Doyle, Hudson and Collins
dominated proceedings with strikers Cowell & Beddows working hard with
just one success apiece.
In the end Lido settled for the 2-1 margin but all three coaches
will expect a greater return goal wise with possession had, if they have any
thoughts of success in this tournament.
