Under 16's win Fed cup

The Boys & Girls clubs of Wales Federation Cup under 16's Final was rapidly arranged for last Friday.

Both sides got together and agreed to the fixture. Considering the short notice for the game a large crowd witnessed an absorbing game in difficult conditions. As befits a cup final, this game could have gone either way.

Treboeth with 4 under 16 internationals in their side forced Rory McCreesh into several fine saves in the first half.

With 15 minutes to go a ball to the edge of the Treboeth area was seized upon by Remi Whitlock and he guided the ball past the keeper for the only goal.

This was a terrific win for the 16's, sadly the Treboeth crowd were poor losers and the side failed to turn up for the after match meal.

Still the best two teams met in the final with the Lido also winning the Under 14's competition and St Josephs from Swansea winning the Under 12's

Unfortunately they didn't progress thro the group stages but everyone played well with Jacob Flynn scoring 2 and a debutant goal for Chris Gardner. All the boys enjoyed themselves and it was a Good day had by all.

It's fair to say that with SIAN CURRY demolishing her chair it's time now for a DIET instead of sitting behind the checkout all day perhaps she should think about stacking shelves. LOL HA HA HA

Lido U14's beat Llynypia 4-1 in BGCW Cup

Report by Phil Holmes

Lido U14's beat Llynypia 4-1 today in BGCW Cup. Not an ideal start for our boys Llynypia scored after 12 seconds. Sean Meddows equalised on 18 mins.

Nathan Doyle went close on 20mins Conor Harris scored 2 the 2nd being a brilliant goal He's broke an attack in our 3rd and played the ball out wide, Continued his run into the area hoping for something.

Shane has pulled the ball back for Conor to finish off his run with a superb finish. Warren scored the 3rd. Conor has run a total of 80 yards to completely finish the game off.

In defence Joshua Jones, Aled Northcott & Daniel O'Brien were awesome to snuff out any chances they had to score.

To win the BGCW is a massive achievement for U14's.

Well done to Francis Doyle, Mark Jones & Neil Harris.

U13 match reports for the Wales B&G Fed cup games

Reports by Paul Davies

A fantastic display of football by the U/13 s enabled them to overcome a much bigger Merthyr U/14 side at home last week by 3 goals to 2. Strong performances by grant fisher, Daniel Carey and Thomas king in the 1st half helped a young lido side stamp an authority on a game that appeared an uphill task after quite a physical start to the game.

In 2nd half great defensive work by centre backs Josh Brady and Ryan Davies held tight and took no prisoners. Unfortunately we went into the semi final of the fed cup in a different frame of mind and Llangeinor B&G U/14s took advantage of this and racked up 7 goals to no reply. Hopefully the young lads will learn from this result and go into next years comp all guns blazing.

To round off on a more cheerful note confident displays by Jordan James and Paul Malcolm in defence, Levi Coakes, Callum Fleming and Mathew McLean in midfield created a platform in defeating Porthcawl A 3 goals to 1 in the final league game of the season. Culminating in  one of the finest goals of the season seen at the lido ground scored by Daniel Symonns.

A headed goal by levy Coakes and penalty by Thomas king rounded off a superb display and an even better season which has brought on players like James Bowen, the brave Cambden Purchase and skilful Ben Francis.

There's one player left out of these reports simply because in almost every game this season he's either kept us in the game or produced something very special and that's the keeper Connah Williams whose basically played well in all the games he's played in.

May I take this chance to thank all the mums and dads for their support this season.

All the best Paul Davies

What now for the website during the break

The long season is finally over for Afan Lido FC.

So what's happening with the website during the break before it all starts again?

Something I intend to do but never had the time during the busy season, is to record and upload all Lido's WPL results and scorers since the founding of the WPL (gonna take a bit of time and research)

Obviously there will be very little from the club now the season is over, but they can make use of the site to promote events and functions at the social club or other events should they wish to avail.

The Welsh Premier and welsh league news will continue as normal during the break, as stories are available in the media.

On a final note I would like to thank all at the club who have helped me with info and news since we went online at the end of January.

The amount of help from the club was I'm sure a major factor in the website winning an award for best new welsh club website, and since Jan 25 up until yesterday we have had 11,275 unique visitors to the site and 371,134 hits.

In the 4 years I have been running official websites (Haverfordwest, Limerick FC, Newport YMCA and Lido) my time with Lido has been the most fruitful, and satisfying with the level of support and co-operation I have received by any club.

There are too many names to mention (and I am bound to forget one or two) but my thanks to all who are involved with the updating of the site.

Nobody will mind I'm sure if I make two special acknowledgements. Firstly to Peter Reynolds, who took my initial email and got the whole thing rolling, and has been my main man with the First's, Reserves,U21's and U19's and with the majority of my club inquires, adding to his already busy role with the club. The second is to the Angry Gaffer (Alias Phil Holmes) for his contribution, not only with his U10's but with the U21 side and his involvement with news and info with the first team, before and since his climb to the managers role. Having a first team manager as a main contact is a luxury I haven't experienced with any of the other clubs.

So see yee tomorrow as normal.

Under 21's crumble in league finale

The final U21 league game of the season was at home to Llanelli, the team needed a win to put themselves top of the southern conference, with no news over the Cwmbran vs. Llanelli game whether the result stood or a reply had to take place. Either way we needed a win, but it was not to be, we went down by 5-1 which leaves Cwmbran top and into the final awaiting their opponents from the north to be decided.

Our scorer was Craig Jones.

So the league is finally over having taken 8 months to play just 8 games, not a great success for its its first season, but hey it cant get any worse "can it"

Under 19's draw final game

The Afan Lido under 19 side played out their final game of the season at home tonight to neighbours Port Talbot.

The result meant nothing for either side as far as moving up the table meant, but in the end it was all square at 3-3.

Scorers for Lido were Craig Jones, Remi Whitlock and Aaron O'Keefe.

Craig Jones goal tonight saw him reach double figures in the league this season hitting his 10th and 11th in league and cup games.

16's in winning their respective leagues.

Lido beaten by Pontardawe

The Lido reserves took on Pontardawe tonight at the Marston Stadium in a re-arranged game that was a Ponty home game. But the away team (Ponty that is) came out on top 2-1.

Ponty's win saw them move up the table from 8th to 5th following their victory. Even though we lost we are still assured of at least 4th place. More details as I get them.

Lido U21's hammer Carmarthen

The Lido under 21 side travelled to Carmarthen for the penultimate league game, having beaten them 6-0 in the home tie we went 3 better this time hitting them for 9 without reply.

We totally dominated 1st half but took a while to score. Richard Miles open scoring on 18 mins.
Ceri Williams went close with two great volleys. we went into half time leading by 5-0.

The 2nd half Carmarthen came into it a bit more and Wyn Walters was called upon to make a few saves to keep them at bay, our 6th goal was against the run of play and that hammer blow totally deflated the Town team and we ran out comfortable 9-0 winners.

Team: Wyn Walters, Craig Martin, Dan Williams, Ross Howells, Luke Harrington,
Ceri Williams (Stephen Osbourne 50mins), Gavin Stephens, Richard Miles,
Craig Jones, Liam McCreesh (Phil Holmes 55mins), Scott Bamsey.

Scorers: Richard Miles, Craig Martin, Luke Harrington, Stephen Osbourne 2
Ceri Williams 2, Liam McCreesh 2.

With just 1 game left for both ourselves and Cwmbran the southern title is within our grasp.

The outcome of the title is in the hands of Llanelli who have to play both us and Cwmbran, Llanelli are away for both games, and no dates have been set for either game.

Today's win see's us qualify for the semi-finals, our opponents from the north have not been decided as any one of 5 teams from the 6 can still qualify for the Semi's.

Lido beat 10 man Bettws

The Lido came away from Tudor Park with all 3 points against relegation stricken Bettws, this was a game Bettws had to win to ease their fears of a return to division 2 after 3 seasons in the top division.

Their plight wasn't helped when they had a player sent off in the first half.

But at the final whistle it was Lido who were the happier and gaining a 2-1 win.

Goals were scored by Luke Harrington and Chris Piper.

Report to follow from Peter.

Under 13's close to winning title

The under 13's have one hand on the league trophy following their 3-1 home win over some team called Port Talbot Town Blues on Saturday.

The team have one game remaining and it is against the only team that can stop them winning the title and that is Porthcawl BGC A.

Porthcawl BGC A lie 6 points adrift of the U13's and have a game in hand, but superior goal difference, Porthcawl also face a tough match in their other remaining game, as they have to take on 2nd placed Corus Steel.

A point against Porthcawl or if Porthcawl fail to take maximum points from their last 2 games and the title comes to the Lido.
