Aberystwyth friendly match report

This was our best performance of the pre season games to date and our best result.

We took the lead after 8 minutes when Liam McCreesh latched on to a through ball from Karl Lewis and calmly slotted it over the keeper as he advanced from his line.

Karl Lewis forced the keeper into a full length save when he shot from the edge of the area following a corner.

Scants in goal made a good save on 18 minutes to ensure we stayed one up and almost immediately the ball went the other end only for Liam to head wide.

On 31 minutes James Taylor was unlucky when his effort went the wrong side of the post before John Felton got on the end of a Greg Hurley cross only to direct his header just wide.

We went in at half time one goal to the good. Scants again saved on 51 minutes, cleared the ball and this time Liam McCreesh netted from 15 yards when again he hit it over the keeper.

We continued to have the better of the chances and sealed the win when Liam netted from the penalty spot on 65 minutes following a hand ball by an Aber defender.

We made numerous substitutions but despite this the home side failed to penetrate our defence.

A deserved victory over a Welsh Premier side, we meet another on Tuesday
when Carmarthen visit the Lido.

Squad: G.Scantlebury, C.Martin, C.Evans, J.Williams, S.Parry, K.Lewis, P.Evans, G.Hurley, L.Mcreesh 3, J.Felton, JTaylor, M.Lavis, C.Jones, C.Thomas, D.Williams, W.Walters, C.Latham.

Gaffers reflections.

Boys played magnificent today. It was a very good contest with Aber having too many chances for our liking in the 1st half. We nullified that in the 2nd and also created a few more opportunities.

Our defence was superb today as was our midfield and forwards. Every player contributed a vast amount of Energy, enthusiasm and experience today to gain a well earned clean sheet and provide our supporters with  a well deserved victory.

Aberystwyth go down to rampant Lido

Afan Lido travelled to Park Avenue today to take on welsh premier side Aberystwyth.

We were missing a few strikers due to work commitments but that didn't stop a rampant Lido side beating their hosts by 3 goals to nil.

Our goal hero was young Liam McCreesh who bagged a hat-trick.

A good victory over higher league opposition.

More on the game to follow.

The game has been under way for 20 mins, and news of the score and hopefully scorers will follow later this evening.

Corus match report

Last night we played at Corus and found ourselves one down at half time.

We looked unable to get the equaliser until Luke Harrington netted after 72 minutes following a goalmouth scramble.

Two minutes later Corey Thomas put us ahead with a candidate for goal of the season.

Now on a roll Liam McCreesh  put us 3-1 up on 77 minutes with a near post header before Corey rounded things of on 84 minutes to secure a 4-1 win that for 70 minutes looked an unlikely result.

Lido beat Corus after early scare

Another win tonight in our pre-season friendlies.

Things didn't go to plan in the first half as Corus took a 1-0 lead into the half time break.

But the Lido stepped up a gear in the second half with four unanswered goals to leave the final score line 4-1.

Our goal scorers were Corey Thomas with two, and Luke Harrington and Liam McCreesh with one apiece.

Next up is a tough away friendly at Aberystwyth this Saturday.

JUL-26

Ian Jones sign for Lido

News just in from Paul Evans that Afan Lido have secured the signature of Ian Jones, last season's top scorer with 15 goals, many see this signing as the final link in a strong Lido squad this season that has a good chance in making an assault on the title and a place back in the welsh premier league.

Afan Lido Dragons tournament updates

Afan Lido dragons Special Needs Football team attended a tournament in Heronsbridge, Bridgend on Saturday July 8th where they were runners up in the under 12 and under 16's tournaments.

However they won the prestigious Fair Play award, an accolade usually saved for a single player.

The whole team played with such spirit that the referee could not distinguish one player from another and decided to award it to the whole team for the first time in the tournament's history.

The team organised their own tournament at the Aberavon Beach Festival on Saturday July 15th which was sponsored by Sandfields First.

Heronsbridge won the under 12's and the Afan Lido Dragons won the under 16's.  All the players were presented with a medal and the team raised over £300 on the day enabling them to attend tournaments throughout the UK.

Ammanford friendly match report

Good workout at Ammanford --- Chris Latham on 15 opened the scoring.  Two minutes later Ian Jones scored his first.

Steve Parry made it three on 40 minutes when he scored directly from a corner. Right on half time Matthew Lavis made it four.

Within seconds of the restart Ian Jones made it five before Corey Thomas with two excellent strikes rounded it off. He scored on 61 and 84 minutes.

Craig Jones, Chris Piper, Ali Walkley, Steve Rogers and Gareth Scantlebury were newcomers from Saturday.

Gaffers views on the game

As you can see from the scoreline things went quite well in front of goal.
What was more pleasing was we didn't concede as can happen when the game gets a bit
        easy.

Corey Thomas is a great prospect for us. He came up with 2 superb finishes.
Chris Latham has made the jump from local league to Welsh league and worked
hard in the centre of midfield.

When we had to keep the ball during spells of the game our experienced players
excelled themselves with Shaun, Greg, Steve, Ian, Chris and young Liam all being composed
        and making the correct decisions.

We've got strength in depth which is evident from the additional players from Sat.

Being fair to Ammanford their heads didn't drop and they kept trying to get a consolation
        goal right to the end.

JUL-25

Ammanford on the end of 7-0 defeat

Llantwit Major 1-0 Afan Lido

Lads played well and created a lot of chances in the first 1/3rd to put Llantwit out of the game. Liam hit the bar after 3mins.

Carl Evans coming close along with Ian Jones. Their keeper made some outstanding reflex saves.
Their goal came in the 2nd 1/3rd through a long ball outwitting our defenders.
Again in the final 1/3rd we kept creating chances Greg Hurley hitting the bar. Ian Jones coming close.
For the 1st game after a gruelling pre-season there were some pleasing performances.
Important that we keep creating opportunities to score and it hopefully won't be long before those chances become goals.

Squad

Wyn Walters, Carl Evans, Craig Martin, Justin Williams, Greg Hurley, Shaun O' Leary, Daniel Williams,
Steve Parry, Ian Jones, Liam McCreesh, John Felton, Chris Latham, Corey Thomas, Matthew Lavis,
Scott Bamsey, Paul Evans.

Under 11 tourney at Ferry

Our U10 entered a tourney in Briton Ferry it was actually an under 11 tournament. The team played extremely well and were unbeaten throughout their group games.
They got to Semis where they met Neath BGC and pushed their U11's all the way only losing by the golden goal.

What made it even more gratifying was we didn't have a recognised goalie, so Conor O'Callaghan went in goal.
The Colts went to Bryntirion and won 2 lost 2 and drew 2.
