MacWhirter Youth Cup GROUP B - Afan lido 6-1 Caerau

The under 19's blew away Caerau Ely who couldn't cope with their speed or movement. Carl Payne again scored a hat trick while there was   first of the season for Remi Whitelock, a first under 19 goal for Ellis Harris and a third of the season for Rory Healey. This moves us up to second place with one game to go, Barry away on Sunday week while our only challengers, Bryntirion, have to play league leaders Ely Rangers away. Two disappointments on the night for us, Josh Tobin again had to come off injured and Remi Whitelock got booked in the last few minutes.
From the kick off we showed our attacking intent when their keeper just beat Carl Payne to a through ball, we went ahead after 5 minutes when Carl Payne headed in a free kick from about 15 yards giving the keeper no chance. We continued to put Caerau Ely under pressure and it seemed only a matter of time before we'd get a second. We kept playing the ball through the middle and only some over elaborate finishing and good goalkeeping stopped us extending the lead until the 28th minute. Ellis Harris received the ball on the half way, he made ground towards the area with a couple of defenders on his tail, as he reached the area he played the ball inside to Carl Payne who knocked it wide left to Remi Whitelock. Remi easily beat his defender and went into the area and cleverly beat the keeper at his near post. Carl Payne should have made it three on 31 minutes but delayed his shot to give the keeper time to block it. Caerau Ely went down the other end and won two successive corners, from the second they headed a goal. Any hope they had of getting back in the game went a minute later when Ellis Harris went through, his shot hit the keeper and Carl Payne netted from an acute angle. It was 4-1 on 43 minutes when Rory Healey went into the area, around the keeper and again from near the goal line scored.
Nial Lewis was denied a goal on 48 minutes when following a Remi Whitelock free kick which the keeper could only push out to him Nial was given offside. Minutes later Remi went through and shot, again the keeper blocked it, Nial followed up but this time his shot was deflected for a corner. Carl Payne completed his hat trick on 68 minutes after picking up a through ball from Ellis Harris, the keeper saved his first effort but Carl put away the rebound. Two minutes later the scoring was completed when Conor Harris played the ball wide to Nial Lewis, his cross was met first time by Ellis Harris whose right footed shot was to powerful for the keeper. Disappointingly (for them) one of the Caerau Ely players was sent off with three minutes to go after a nasty challenge on Sam Nolan right on the touchline. Sam was carried off by first team coach Vince Lewis piggy back style.
