afan lido 0-5 west end
The Reserves went down to their heaviest defeat
for some time against a side playing only it's second game in the Reserve
League. We were second to everything and we struggled to cope with their
midfield throughout.
We did have the first attacks of the game, Karl Roberts knocked the ball through
for Shaun Best but their keeper got to the ball first and cleared then from a
free kick Adam Beynon headed goalwards but it lacked any power and was easy for
the keeper. On 5 minutes West End won a corner but despite winning the ball in
the goalmouth they shot over the bar. Gareth Couch kept the scores level on 23
minutes when he dived to his left to make a fine one handed save turning the
ball behind for a corner. We were then awarded a series of free kicks but made
nothing of any of them and we were still to test the keeper. West End grew in
confidence and but for a couple of shots which were blocked by defenders they
could have been ahead. On 45 minutes West End took a deserved lead, the ball was
played down the right and crossed to the near post and headed on to the far post
where their unmarked striker scored with ease.
Luke Borrelli received the ball wide left but had
to delay crossing the ball as there was no support in the box, this had been a
feature of the first half and was still evident at the start of the second. Luke
then found himself on the right, he beat a couple of defenders and shot across
goal but wide of the far post but at least we had a shot. On 58 minutes we went
two down, Ali Walkley was penalised for a foul just inside our half, they hit a
long ball into the box, no one cleared it and a West End player shot to
score. On 64 minutes we were three down and again we contributed to our own
downfall. West End hit a hopeful ball forward, Gareth Couch came out for it but
one of our defenders headed it over his head allowing the lone striker an easy
run in on goal. 5 minutes later Gareth Couch kept it to three with a fine one
handed save to his right. 5 minutes before time Josh Cokeley was injured and had
to leave the field and we had to finish the game with 10 men as all three subs
had been used. West End continued to attack and score in the 87th minute and in
added on time to record their first win in the Reserve Division.
