Two goals apiece for Matt Beynon and Ellis Harris gave
the Reserves an emphatic win over Cwmamman United but it could have been
even more but for some good goalkeeping, poor finishing and bad luck.
From a Lido corner Matt Beynon and Dean Hudson set up a chance for Ali Walkley but he shot wide. From a second Lido corner on 7 minutes we took the lead, Simon Witheridge's cross found Matt Beynon unmarked 15 yards out and his header went just under the crossbar giving the keeper no chance. From another Lido corner it was Adam Beynon's opportunity but he headed wide from a good position. We were awarded a free kick 20 yards out in a central position, Adam Beynon was unlucky, his shot beating the keeper but it was just the wrong side of the post. The Cwmamman keeper did well to save an Ellis Harris shot on 26 minutes but within seconds Adam Beynon played the ball to Ellis and from virtually the same position he netted with a right footed shot. Cwmamman were awarded a free kick by the corner flag but the cross was headed behind for a goal kick. Just before half time Ali Walkley did a good job of defending! We were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, Adam Beynon's shot hit the top of the wall and looped up, Matt Beynon's header was saved by the keeper and Simon Witheridge from 4 yards shot but hit Ali Walkley who couldn't get out of the way and saved Cwmamman from going three down at the break.
In the early minutes of the second half we were awarded a free kick which Leigh Shrimpton took, again the keeper making a good save, turning the ball behind for a corner. From the corner we had a header cleared off the line and the ball was cleared to Ellis Harris who shot first time, the ball hitting a defender on the line before being cleared. On 55 minutes Adam Beynon was again unlucky not to score when he dived to meet a right wing cross and his header hit the post and went behind for a goal kick. In a rare Cwmamman attack the ball was crossed high to the far post but Gareth Couch came out and held the ball and cleared. With 4 minutes to go Ellis Harris showed a neat bit of skill to make it 3-0 when he latched on to a through ball and lobbed the keeper as he came out to challenge. On 90 minutes Niall Lewis did well cutting in from the right, beating a couple of defenders to set up a chance for Matt Beynon who had time to pick his spot and score the fourth.
