BARRY TOWN PREVIEW

Squad for tonight's game: (could be wrong but I think this is the first squad listing for young Dan Symmons of our under 18 team, it is definitely the first time in the squad for our young under 18's keeper Connah Williams).

M Lewis, D Lancey, C Payne, S Hillman, S McCourbrey, Dan Symmons, C Pridham, L Borrelli, R Williams, J Hood, C Evans, C Baker, C Thomas, S Galsworthy, N White, Connah Williams.

Tonight we take on Barry Town at Jenner Park, and a victory over the hosts could see us climb to 2nd place in the table, until Saturday's results are in.

Last season we came away from Jenner Park with a good 3-0 win back on November 25th, but following that result Barry Town remained unbeaten for 21 games following our win over them, they in fact only lost again again on the very last game of the season at home to Newport YM, they finished of the season in 3rd place behind Aberaman and Goytre. They also repaid us for that 3-0 win by beating us by the same scoreline when they came to the Marston on February 6th.

They have not started this season as they finished off the last, and are in 10th place with with 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats so far, they have suffered a home defeat already to newly promoted Garden Village 2-1, and lost last time out 1-0 at Ynys Park against Ton Pentre.

Our start to the season is pretty good, though we did lose 2 of the first 3 games, but we are on a 3 match winning streak since our last defeat against Bryntirion.

Our new look squad are starting to settle down playing together with 6 of the new players having started the most games in the squad so far this season, so it's a very new looking team we are putting out. One signing seems to stick out more than the others when it comes to scoring goals, and that player is Nathan White who has scored 8 league goals in his 6 games, while no other scorer has scored more than one goal, Nathan has in fact scored 8 out of our 13 goals in our 6 league games, though last season's top scorer Scott McCourbrey has scored in his one and only game so far, so we have the prospects of a terrific strike force pair in those 2 players.

It is a very youngish team with the likes of Jonathan Hood, Shaun Galsworthy, Carl Payne, Corey Thomas, Gavin Jones, Dan Lancey, Luke Borrelli, and Scott McCourbrey 21 or younger. So if we don't manage promotion this season, due to the domestic licence or by finishing in the top places, we have the basis for a good squad for next season and after to challenge again.

Cardiff side Pentwyn got off to a flying start in the league cup clash taking the lead in the 10', but their lead lasted just 5' as Luke Borrelli got Lido back on level terms.

Lido make 3 subs, N White, C Thomas and S Hillman come on for J Hood, C Payne and S Galsworthy.

It took Lido 20' into the 2nd half to take the lead, the goal came from Dan Lancey on 65' 2-1 Lido.

Lido look to have made the game safe with a 3rd with 5' left, Luke Borrelli scored his 2nd and Lido's 3rd.

Full time 3-1 to Lido.

Attendance: 65

He was with Bridgend Town last season, Scott has problems making training due to work commitments, a problem he also faced with his former club Bridgend Town, but his signing makes another strengthening to our defensive options. He is the 3rd signing this season from Bridgend Town, following on with Brendan Cropley and Ryan Frankcom, and he becomes our 12th signing this season.

Sept 4

Afan Lido squad and preview for the Bettws game

Saturday we host Bettws, who came 4th in their first season back in division one.

They currently lie in 11th place with 2 wins and 2 defeats, they lost their opening 2 games of the season with a 3-2 defeat at Goytre and then a 5-0 hammering at Dinas Powys. Since then they have settled down and are unbeaten in their last 3 games with wins over Garden Village 3-1, a 2-1 win over Taffs Well and last time out a 0-0 draw at home to Ton Pentre.

The corresponding fixture last season saw Bettws secure a point with a 3-3 draw at the Marston with Lido scoring the equaliser in the last minute.

We go into the game looking for our 3rd league win on the trot, and our 4th win in 6 games, if results go our way and we secure a win we could go 2nd in the table, but we would rely on Pontardawe winning their first against 3rd placed Bryntirion or a draw would see us go above Bryntirion on goal difference, other results would need to go our way as well as us winning.

There has been news that former Afan Lido manager Craig Duggan has been approached to take over the vacant managers position at Bettws, but nothing has been confirmed yet, we also welcome back to the Marston Former midfielder Kieron Howells, who re-joined Bettws before the start of the season.

We also give a warm welcome back to last season's top scorer Scott McCourbrey who makes the squad for the first game of the season, though he has some catching up to do to get close to this season's Lido top scorer Nathan White.

The Lido squad to face Bettws is:

M Lewis, C Evans, R Williams, C Thomas, C Pridham, C Baker, D Lancey, N White, C Payne, S Galsworthy, M Beynon, J Hood, S Morgan, S McCourbrey, S McCoy.

Also this Saturday see's the Reserves get their season going with an away game against welsh league newcomers South Gower, they meet in the Reserve cup.

Lido and 23 other clubs apply for domestic licence to play in the WPL

24 Licence apply to compete for Restructured Welsh Premier The Football Association of Wales has received twenty-four applications for the Domestic Club Licence for Season 2010/11, which is a pre-requisite for competing in the restructured Welsh Premier League next Season. The FAW announced in June that a re-structured twelve team League will be formulated for the 2010/11 Season with all clubs having to attain the Domestic Club Licence, the process of which has now started and concludes in April. The deadline for applications has now passed and there is one notable absentee, with Technogroup Welshpool, who are current members of the Principality Welsh Premier League, choosing not to apply. The strict Infrastructure guidelines in the Domestic Licence, means that Welshpool would have been extremely unlikely to meet the grade at their current Maesydre home. The other seventeen members of the current Welsh Premier League have all applied, but a maximum of five clubs will not form the new League, even if they do gain a Licence. The-restructured League of twelve will consist of the highest ten Licensed clubs, based on the standings at the end of the 2009/10 Season.  They will be joined by one of Afan Lido, Barry Town or Bridgend Town, but only if they finish in the top two and gain an FAW Licence. Similarly one of the four Cymru Alliance clubs to have applied who are Buckley Town, Caernarfon Town, Llandudno FC and Llangefni FC, will also be promoted, but once again, only if they finish in the top two and gain an FAW Licence. If there is not an eligible club from the Feeder Leagues to gain promotion under the above criteria, the eleventh and possibly twelfth best placed licensed club from the Welsh Premier League will also play in the top division in 2010/11. FAW Head of Competitions and Club Licensing Manager Andrew Howard said; “It’s the start of what is going to be a very interesting, but demanding process on the clubs and the Association.” “The key objective of this system is to enhance the product of the National League in Wales and the Licence will drive this forward. It will improve Stadia, Youth Development, Manager’s Qualifications, Administration and Finances, to name but a few benefits and I’m convinced that this will ensure that the League goes from strength to strength.” “I’m pleased with the number of applicants which highlights the ambition of some of the clubs currently outside the Principality Welsh Premier League, but it’s also a figure which is manageable administratively.” The list of FAW Domestic Club Licence Applicants is; Principality Welsh Premier League Aberystwyth Town, Airbus UK Broughton, Bala Town FC, Bangor City FC, Caersws FC, Carmarthen Town AFC, Cefn Druids AFC, GAP Connah’s Quay, Haverfordwest County AFC, Llanelli AFC, Neath FC, Newtown AFC, CPD Porthmadog, Port Talbot Town FC, Prestatyn Town FC, Rhyl FC, The New Saints FC Welsh League Division 1 Afan Lido FC, Barry Town AFC, Bridgend Town AFC Cymru Alliance Buckley Town FC, Caernarfon Town FC, Llandudno FC, Llangefni FC
