White brace
see's off 10 man Ponty |
|
Preparations didn't
get off to the best of starts as Leigh Shrimpton got an injury in
the match warm warm up. The
first goal of the game didn't arrive until the 25' when Nathan
White got on the scoresheet again. On
35' Nathan and Lido had the chance to go 2-0 up when the Ponty
keeper brought down White and conceded a penalty and also saw him
get a red card. But White's penalty was a weak effort and easily
saved by the replacement keeper. On
65' 10 man Ponty were level, a mix up between Keeper Mike Lewis
& Shaun Galsworthy let in Jonathan Coates to draw Ponty level. Lido
restored the lead on 73' when Nathan White scored his 2nd of the
game.
It finished 2-1 to Lido our 2nd
home win in a couple of days and see's us move up to 6th.
Lido line up:
M Lewis, R Williams, C Thomas, C Evans, S Galsworthy, C Baker, R Frankcom, C
Pridham, M Beynon, Nathan White, D Lancey, Subs: L Borrelli,
L Fodderie, J
McEvoy, C Payne,

Squad for Ponty
home game |
|
The squad to face
Pontardawe tomorrow is:
M Lewis, R Williams, C Thomas, C Evans, S Galsworthy, C Baker, R Frankcom, C
Pridham, M Beynon, Nathan White, D Lancey, L Shrimpton, L Borrelli, S McCoy, L Fodderie, J
McEvoy, C Payne, G Jones. Ponty
Preview Saturday we take on
Pontardawe at the Marston, and we will be looking to do a lot
better than the 3-0 defeat we suffered at their hands last season. Ponty
are having a bad start to the season losing all 4 league games and
are bottom of the league with only Cardiff Corries below them on
worse goal difference. But it must be said that all 4 games have
been away from home, and tomorrows game makes it 5 away. Ponty
have had the better of the meetings against us at the Marston with
Lido only recording 1 win since we came back to the welsh league. While
we have had an indifferent start to the season, something that everyone
must have noticed is the goalscoring feats on new signings Nathan
White, and especially his tally of four goals last time out
against West End, he could form quite a strike double act with
last season's top scorer Scott McCourbrey when he returns to the
squad next month. We
welcome back Rhys Williams to the squad for the first time this
season.

The lights go
out for West End |
|
The lights literally went
out for West End in tonight's game, with Lido up 3-0 the
floodlights failed, and after a £1 was put in the meter, we
continued with the remaining 17'.
It was almost a goalless first
half but Nathan White put us ahead after 43' to send in at half
time 1-0 up.
5' after the restart Nathan White
made it 2 for him and Lido, and just before the lights went out
Nathan grabbed his first Lido hat-trick on 70'.
On 80' Dan Lancey made it 4-0 and
just for good measure Nathan White scored his 4th and Lido's 5th
to wrap up the score at 5-0 to Lido.
Lido line up:
M Lewis, A Collins, C Thomas, S Galsworthy, C Baker, R Frankcom, C
Pridham, M Beynon, Nathan White, D Lancey.
Subs:
B Cropley, L Borrelli, S McCoy, L Fodderie, J McEvoy.

West End preview |
|
Wednesday night we travel
to Swansea to take on West End for the first time in a league
encounter.
West End are only in the welsh
league since the 2005/06 season and have made rapid progress up
the divisions to take their place in division 1.
They have had a steady start to
life in div 1 with 4 points from their 3 games, winning their
first 3-1 against Taffs Well before drawing away to Garden Village
and last time out lost 3-2 at home to Ton Pentre. We
welcome back 2 former Lido players now in the ranks of West End,
defender Steve Crabbe and striker Darren Griffiths who was West
End's top scorer last season. Hopefully Steve will be chasing
shadows and Darren will be kept quiet and scoreless during the
match. Lido will be looking
to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat we suffered last time out away
to Bryntirion in only Bryntirion's 2nd win over Lido in the
league. We need to get back
to winning ways as to not fall too far behind the current leaders
who are 6 points clear of us after only 3 games. The
squad for Wednesday's game is: B
Cropley, M Lewis, C Evans, S Galsworthy, C Thomas, C Pridham, C
Payne, N White, R Frankcom, D Lancey, A Collins, J McEvoy, C
Baker, S McCoy, L Borrelli, G Jones, L Fodderie, A Hiroli. We
also welcome new signing Adnan Hiroli who joins from Bridgewater,
Adnan is a striker. While
talking about strikers, former Lido youth and first team player
Mark Jones could be on his way out of the Victoria Road ground,
Aberystwyth have put a 7 day notice on Mark. Mark joined us on
loan last season from Llanelli and he scored 9 league goals from
his 13 league games for the club.

Bryntirion match
preview |
|
Saturday we travel to
Bryntirion for our 3rd league game of the season, having had mixed
fortunes in our previous 2 league game, both games have ended in
3-1 score lines but unfortunately one for us and one against, we
put in a good performance on Wednesday night away to Ton Pentre
with new striker Nat White scoring a brace and another new signing
Sam McCoy scoring his first Lido goal in his first Lido game
at that strike rate he should be on at least 33 goals for the
season. In our last 4
meeting since dropping back to the welsh league we have lost once at Bryntirion, last season we came away with a 1-0 win and
the only win for Bryntirion was May 9th 2006 when we were beaten
3-0, the other 2 games have been draws. (Correction made to the
last paragraph as I wrongly sourced the previous meetings and said
that we had never lost at Bryntirion, but an observant Bryntirion
chairman has put me in my place and shown me the error of my ways,
well nobody's perfect:)
Bryntirion had a poor enough season last season
compared to the 2007/08 season which saw them finish in 5th place, last season
saw them finish in 11th place. They lie above us in the table this season
unbeaten after 2 games with 4 points, having drew 4-4 with Ton Pentre away on
the opening night of the season, and then winning last time out also away
beating Taffs Well 2-1, so they will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run
in the league especially in their first home game of the season in front of
their fans.
Our new team look this season are starting to
find their feet playing together, and who knows had we had 11 players on the
field against Bridgend we may not have lost that game, but if's and maybe's
don't get points on the board. our squad will be strengthened even further in
September when we will have last season's top scorer Scott McCourbrey back and
also defender Rhys Williams, so a win on Saturday will continue our unbeaten
away start in the new league campaign.

debut, things got better as we doubled our lead on 40' when Nathan

pulled a goal back for the Bulldogs, but that was the final score
of the first half, Bulldogs 1-2 Lido.
James McEvoy on for Ryan Frankcom

20' into the 2nd half and score
still 2-1 to Lido, though both sides have had chances to score.

3-1 Lido on 76'.

Bulldogs match
preview |
|
Tonight we play our first away
league game of the season against former welsh league champions
Ton Pentre at Ynys Park.
Ton did slightly better result
wise than Lido in their opening game, as they secured a point in
their 4-4 home draw against Bryntirion last Friday night.
Last season's fixture saw the
Bulldogs run out 3-1 winners, only two players who started last
season's match are still at the club (Carl Evans and Corey
Thomas).
We have only won once at Ynys
Park since we were relegated from the welsh premier, and that was
in the 2005/06 season, since then we have lost twice and had one
draw. Ton Pentre have not been the force they once were since in
the league since we have seen big spenders enter the scene,
firstly Aberaman along with Goytre and Neath, and this season it's
looking like Bridgend are taken over from Aberaman's as the
league's big spenders on players.
We go into tonight's game with a
few new faces, returnee Chris Pridham makes his first appearance
in the squad for a league game and we also see Sam McCoy making a
showing, left back Sam has joined from Monmouth Town and goes
straight into tonight's squad. Tonight's game will give an
indicator to this season's squad strength as the Bridgend game was
not a good indicator due to the sending off of Leigh Shrimpton
when we were down 1-0 and that came from a penalty.
Hopefully we can put in a few
good performances to attract the size of crowd that we got for the
Bridgend game which was 304, 3 times our average for last season.
Our next home game is on the 26th against one of the divisions
newly promoted sides West End.

(10th of the season) in Sam McCoy who has transferred from

goes straight into tomorrow night's squad to face Ton

Afan Lido 1-3
Bridgend Town |
|
We started our first game of the
season falling behind when Jonathan Hood gave away a 35th minute
penalty, which Raith Plant tucked away. 1-0 to Bridgend at half
time It could have been a different story had we taken either of
our 2 great chances we created in the first half, and we also had
to thank new keeper Cropley for pulling off a brilliant save on
the quarter hour.
Things started to fall apart
in the 2nd half as Lee Shrimpton saw red in the 53rd min and 4
minutes later Bridgend made it 2-0, 2-0 became 3-0 on the hour
against Lido's 10 men.
10 man Lido got a goal back in
the 80' with new signing Craig Baker came off the subs bench to
make it 3-1.
Final score
Lido line up:
B Cropley, L Shrimpton, C Evans, J
Williams, C Thomas, R Frankcom, J Hood, D Lancey, G Jones, N

Bridgend Town
preview |
|
For the 3rd season running we
face Bridgend Town in the first few games of the season, the last
2 season's games have ended in Draws 2-2 and last season 4-4, we
have to go back to the 2006/07 season for our last home win over
them when we beat them 1-0 with Shaun Best the goalscorer, only 2
other players from that game are still at the club Karl Roberts
and Justin Williams.
Bridgend have been in the news
lately, most notably for their pursuit to amalgamate with Merthyr
Tydfil in their attempt to gain entry into the English pyramid
system, but now they look to gain a foothold in the Welsh premier
instead. Bridgend should have no problem gaining entry to the
welsh premier should they get a top 2 finish and finish above
other promotion aspirants as the Brewery Field should meet all the
on field criteria, while Lido probably wont meet the full welsh
premier licensing needs, but none the less the club will still put
themselves forward for entry.
They have now put together a
strong squad in their attempt to secure a top 2 place in the
division 1 of the welsh league, they have taken some of the top
players from last season's champions Aberaman, they now boast a
formidable strike force in Chris Summers and Raith Plant.
Manager Mark Robbo has been
busy bringing new players in pre-season, eight in total, two ex
Lido players make a welcome return in Chris Pridham who signed for
Corus Steel from Neath, and Jonathan Hood who come back from Caerau.
The other players to join the club can be seen in the transfer
page
We do go into tonight's game
missing two regulars from last season, top scorer last season
Scott McCourbrey will not be available for Lido until September,
and the same applies to Rhys Williams.
Kick off at the Marston is
7:30 tonight.

Lido 0-3
Hwest |
|
Afan Lido had a good first team
work out last night against a good Haverfordwest team, eventually
going down 3-0.
Nathan White had 4 good chances to score against the welsh premier
outfit, 2 were brilliantly saved by Haverfordwest's young keeper
Lee Idzi.
Making his debut in goals for
Lido was Brendan Cropley, who signed from Bridgend Town last night
after the game.
Team:
Brendan Cropley, Kieran Howells, Corey Thomas, Justin Williams,
Carl Evans, Leigh Shrimpton, Daniel Lancey, Ryan Frankcom, Nathan
White, Jonathan Hood, Gavin Jones.
Subs: Shaun Galsworthy, Craig Baker and Shaun Morgan.
Next up for Lido is an away
