Homeless Martyrs set to move in with Taffs (May 27) 22:30
MERTHYR Tydfil, one of the great brand names of Welsh football, could
be playing their home matches 20 miles away from Penydarren Park next
season.
Merthyr, who were playing European football and eyeing up a Football
League spot towards the end of the 1980s, have secured a deal to ground
share with Welsh League outfit Taffs Well.
There is still hope among fans and the club’s Supporters’ Trust that
the last ball has not been kicked at their famous Penydarren home.
The Trust are waiting to hear if their application to reform the club
has been accepted and what division they will play in next season and
things should become a lot clearer on June 12 when the current
administration period comes to an end.
In the meantime, with a developer renewing an interest in buying
Penydarren Park, the Trust have had to scour South Wales for an
alternative home to start the new season.
South Wales Amateur League club Treforest was considered as an
option, but the Trust has chosen Taffs Well, more than 12 miles outside
the Merthyr borough and nearly 20 from Penydarren Park.
At least £2,000 will be spent on the Rhiwdda ground to meet the
criteria set by the Western League, the division Merthyr expect to be
playing in next season. The Trust is also discussing transport plans for
match days.
The Trust is looking to boost the funds coming into the club and they
have agreed to pay Taffs Well a sum of money at the start of every month
they are using their facilities.

Malaysians target top two as Cardiff City takeover agreed (May 27) 22:30
THE Malaysian takeover of Cardiff City has been given the go ahead by
shareholders – with promotion to the Premier League already the target
for next season.ost the funds coming into the club and they
have agreed to pay Taffs Well a sum of money at the start of every month
they are using their facilities.
Dato Chan Tien Ghee – known to fans as TG – is now Bluebirds
chairman, taking the reigns from Peter Ridsdale, who stands down after
more than five years at the club.
During the meeting TG promised exciting times ahead at the Cardiff
City stadium with the target of a top-two finish following this season’s
play-off heartbreak.
TG told shareholders he was “deeply privileged” to be involved with
the Bluebirds.
He said: “Believe me, it’s going to be quite a journey yet again.
“Cardiff City has advanced, each year we are closer and I would like
very much not to do any more of these play-offs!
“This is a Welsh institution and we have one team but two nations.
“We want to go out there and get us promoted, I think we want to
stick to focusing on a top two position.”
Following the EGM, Paul Guy and Michael Isaac joined the board,
alongside TG and existing members Steve Borley and Alan Whiteley,. U-Jiun
Tan also joins as non-executive director.
Also confirmed were the appointments of Gethin Jenkins and Doug Lee
as chief executive officer and finance director respectively.
Mr Jenkins said: “It is our continuing aim to attain Premier League
football for Cardiff City and the wider Cardiff community, while
building a strong and sustainable business platform that can see the
team and the club develop.
“In doing so we will look to engage fully with supporters, business
partners and the community, while asking that they engage with us as we
look to continue the progress of the club in recent years.
“It is an exciting time and an opportunity to forge new partnerships
that will see the club stand on stable foundations for the future.”

Cardiff ready for the £100 million match (May 22) 14:00
Billed as the
richest match in club football, an estimated is at stake in the
winner-takes-all Championship play-off final, which will propel one of
these sides into the big time.
For Blackpool, who started the season among the favourites for
relegation and have not been in the top flight since 1971, promotion
would be an amazing achievement. It would also see them go from the
bottom division to the Premier League in the space of nine years.
And it would be a crowning moment for boss Ian Holloway, who tasted
play-off agony at Cardiff's hands while QPR boss in 2003.
City's extra-time victory at the Millennium Stadium that day took them
into the second tier for the first time in 18 years. Now they are
looking to go a step further and compete in the top division for the
first time since 1962.
Manager Dave Jones is hoping to repeat his 2003 play-off triumph, when
he took Wolves up. His position at Cardiff was in doubt after their
capitulation resulted in them being nudged out of the top six on the
final day of last season. One year on, he could be about to seal his
place in the club's folklore.
Two years ago, Holloway presided over relegation with Leicester and has
had to rebuild his reputation since Blackpool appointed him last summer.
His pre-season claim that the Seasiders could seriously challenge for
promotion seemed to many to be over-ambitious, but he has been proved
right.
While Blackpool have defied the odds to get this far, Cardiff have
defied serious off-the-field problems. Their financial future has been
uncertain all season, but they now have a chance to hit the jackpot and
emphatically wipe out their debts.

Swans fighting to keep Pratley (May 22) 14:00
SWANSEA CITY’S
battle to hold on to Darren Pratley has begun as Nottingham Forest
prepare to launch a renewed bid for the Liberty star.
But chairman Huw Jenkins has issued a hands-off warning after
speculation also linked Roberto Martinez’s Wigan Athletic with a move
for the 25-year-old Londoner.
Beaten play-off semi-finalists Forest had a m bid for Pratley turned
down in January but boss Billy Davies is eager to up the offer. But he
was denied doing so by the City Ground outfit’s unusual transfer
acquisition committee, headed by former Spurs boss David Pleat.
Davies frustration with the committee saw the Scot hold clear-the-air talks
with the Forest hierarchy yesterday d it ended with talk of a fresh
offer for Pratley.
Pratley has also interested Newcastle, while reports in Wigan suggested
Martinez could also be prepared to lure the former Fulham youngster
away.
That news comes after Martinez had already expressed an interest in
out-of-contract midfielder Leon Britton.
But with the Spaniard also being touted as a potential suitor for
full-back Angel Rangel, Jenkins said: “I understand how these links come
about, but there’s nothing going on as far as we’re concerned.
“And I have had no discussions whatsoever with anyone at Wigan Athletic
about any of our players.
“I know Angel was brought over during Roberto’s time here, but he is
under contract and until we receive a fantastic offer he will remain
here.
“As for Darren, he is definitely not for sale. He’s under contract, he’s
been with us for a number of years, he’s settled and he loves it here.>
Britton is still to make a decision over his future with talks set for
next week with an offer from Middlesbrough and one other Championship
club already on the table.
Britton, 27, is believed to have been offered to double his money on
Teesside but he is still weighing up his options with Wigan interested
and Swansea happy to give the long-serving star time to make up his
mind.

County swoop for dynamic duo (May 22) 14:00
NEWPORT County’s
summer spending spree began last night with two new arrivals signing on
the dotted line.
On an extremely busy day at Spytty Park the Exiles secured the
signatures of striker/winger Giuseppe Sole from Woking and defender
Ollie Thorne from Forest Green Rovers.
Sole, still only 21, is a player boss Dean Holdsworth hugely admires and
he has been a long-term target. He has not only agreed a one-year
contract with the Exiles but confirmed he will be relocating to Gwent as
well.
Central defender Thorne, 20, has also penned a one-year deal and both
players will join the likes of Craig Reid, Sam Foley and Danny Rose in
essentially being full-timers next term.
Thorne is a former MK Dons player and also had a spell with Rushden and
Diamonds, having never played below the Conference National.
The good news for Exiles supporters does not stop there either, defender
Jamie Collins also signing on to stay with County after smooth contract
negotiations with boss Holdsworth. The Exiles will also today confirm
that Chris Todd has been signed up on a permanent deal from Torquay
although, as reported here, that was agreed several weeks ago.
However, Paul Cochlin has played his final game for the Exiles, agreeing
a move to the Welsh Premier League with Neath, where he will form a
formidable partnership with former County captain Ian Hillier and will
also be reunited with Craig ‘Guppyghes.
Striker Dave Gilroy is apparently in negotiations with other clubs and
seems certain to leave, while winger Charlie Henry is now the only
member of the Blue Square South winning squad whose future is uncertain,
contract talks having stalled recently.
The Exiles will be announcing another new signing early next week, a
midfielder who has been a regular opponent in previous seasons in the

Ton Pentre relegated following defeat (May 18) 11:00
The fight to stay in division 1 with 5 clubs being relegated has been
decided. But no one anticipated the 9 times welsh league champions (and
former league of Wales club) would be one of
the 5 clubs to go down.
Their fate lied in their own hands going into their last game, victory
away to Pontardawe would ensure their survival, but the resurgent
Pontardawe had other ideas and won their home game against Ton Pentre
3-2, that result alone would not relegate them unless Cardiff
Corinthians beat current champions Aberaman which they did 2-1 in their
final home game (played at Caerau Ely). It has been a rapid drop down
the table for the bulldogs who only back in march were 4th in the table
on 36 points from 24 games, but just 5 points from a possible 30
condemned them to their current position and relegation. So the 5 teams relegated are 1:
Caerleon, 2: Dinas Powys, 3: Bettws, 4: Ely rangers, 5: Ton Pentre.
While the bottom has been decided, the top is still up for grabs with
Goytre Lido and Cambrian all still fighting to be crowned champions, but
whoever wins the title will do so with the lowest points total ever in
the welsh league div 1 for a 34 game season, the highest total any of
the 3 teams can achieve is 69, whether it is a sign of a very
competitive league this season or lack of top quality teams in the
division? the previous lowest total for a 34 league season (3 points for
a win) was back in 1981/82 season and that was the first season 3 points
for a win came in and it was posted by recently relegated Ton Pentre who
managed 70 points.

Clubs Await News of Licensing Appeals (May 17) 12:30
Today, Monday 17th May 2010, is one of the most important days in the
history of the Welsh Premier League as the Club Licensing Appeals, which
will be heard in Cardiff at 10:30, will determine the composition of the
restructured Welsh Premier League for 2010/11. At least eleven of the
twelve members for next season will be confirmed, the only vacancy may
still not be confirmed until later this week, if Welsh League side Afan
Lido are successful with their appeal.
The appeals will be heard by a committee, independent of the FAW and
of any club or League and they will make a final and binding decision
for the FAW. Rhyl, Bangor City and Airbus UK Broughton, who all finished
in the Top Ten, are awaiting their licence. The other seven top ten
finished clubs are confirmed in next season's League.
If the three clubs named above are licensed on appeal today, there
are ten confirmed clubs. The other two vacancies will be filled by Cymru
Alliance Champions Llangefni (if they win their appeal) and Afan Lido
(if they win appeal and finish season in Top Two).
If any of those five are not licensed, the vacancies will be filled
in the following order;
- Bala Town (if they win appeal)
- Haverfordwest (already licensed)
- Newtown (already licensed)
- Connah's Quay (if they win appeal)
- Porthmadog (if they win appeal)
The seven confirmed teams for the League so far are Aberystwyth Town,
Carmarthen Town, Llanelli, Neath, Port Talbot Town, Prestatyn Town and
The New Saints.

Fight for the First Division crown is going right to the wire (May 17) 12:00
TITLE-CHASING rivals Afan Lido and Goytre United both hit four goals
to set up a crunch clash on Wednesday evening.
Goytre are top of MacWhirter Welsh League Division One with one game
to play. That is against Afan Lido, who are at home against Goytre at
the Marstons Stadium on Wednesday.
It’s a case of winner takes all – unless Cambrian and Clydach
intervene.
Goytre and Afan Lido both have a goal difference of plus 38 and if
either team wins the big clash they will have every chance of being
crowned champions. A draw would leave Goytre in first place.
But Cambrian and Clydach, lying third with two games to play, could
yet sneak in and snatch the title.
They travel to play Bryntirion on Wednesday and then, on Saturday,
May 22, take on West End.
If Afan Lido beat Goytre and Cambrian win both of their remaining
matches they would finish top by two points.

The chase for Division Two glory continues (May 17)
12:00
Cwmbran Celtic can clinch the title tomorrow evening when they play
Caerau Ely away in Cardiff.
That is Celtic’s final match of the season and if they slip up
Penrhiwceiber Rangers could nip in to take the championship.
Cwmbran Celtic drew 1-1 at Newport YMCA on Saturday, while Rangers
battled to a 2-2 draw at home against Croesyceiliog.
In Division Three Aberbargoed Buds have had a tiring schedule of
matches and it showed during a 3-2 win at Pentwyn Dynamos. Title-chasing
Buds led 3-0 soon after half-time thanks to goals from Iwan Aherne, Dean
Randall and Benny Preece.
Pentwyn hit back with two goals and Buds were hanging on at the end.
The home team were left to rue Aberbargoed’s second goal, scored from a
Randall free-kick on the edge of the penalty area while their ’keeper
was standing by one of his posts lining up the defensive wall.
Randall was able to chip his shot into an empty net.

Gethin Jenkins set to take over at Bluebirds (May 13) 16:30
CARDIFF CITY are
turning to a rugby man to be their new Peter Ridsdale.
The Western Mail can
reveal departing Dragons chief executive Gethin Jenkins (pictured below)
has accepted a similar role with the Bluebirds. Jenkins will now be
responsible for the day-to-day running of Cardiff, just as he has been
with the Newport-based Dragons over the past six years.
Jenkins replaces
Ridsdale, whose official title was chairman but who oversaw everything
at the club.
The former Leeds
supremo officially leaves his job at the end of May and City were keen
to have their new man in place to take over immediately.
It is a fair bet that
Paul Guy and former Wales rugby captain Mike Hall, who each have a
strong tie up with the Bluebirds, will have been impressed with the work
Jenkins has done at Rodney Parade.
During his tenure in
charge, Jenkins has worked a tight ship and helped implement a policy
which has seen Dragons coach Paul Turner bring through a number of
home-grown players.
Some of the youngsters,
such as fly-half Jason Tovey, flanker Dan Lydiate, wing Will Harries and
prop Hugh Gustafson, are being tipped as Wales stars of the future.
Dragons chairman Martyn
Hazell said yesterday: “We would like to thank Gethin for his hard work
and dedication to the Dragons and Newport RFC over the past six years.
“He has been part of an
organisation that has developed strong foundations and grown on
sustainable lines during that period.
“We are confident that
we can build on this legacy and continue to grow, especially as we hope
to announce new development plans imminently.”
Jenkins said he was
leaving to take up a new challenge.

Penydarren Park eviction threat to Merthyr (May 12) 15:30
MERTHYR Tydfil
could be dealt yet another massive blow by being kicked out of
Penydarren Park, their home for more than 100 years, as early as next
season.
A house-building company has renewed its interest in the site and the
Martyrs could be forced to look for a new base outside the Merthyr area.
And Mark Evans of the Merthyr Supporters’ Trust says that would be a
tragedy.
“There are a lot of things going on at the club, but the thought of
leaving Penydarren Park has to be taken seriously.” said Evans.
“People must not forget that this is a community club that hosted 14
local cup finals after the senior side finished their season.
“We understand the administrator has a job to do, but we will not let
this issue go.”
The club was placed in administration by the Martyrs to the Cause Trust
in June 2009 in order to protect it from creditors, including HMRC.
The trust was hoping to buy the lease of Penydarren Park for next
season, but the administrator has written to creditors advising a
company, which has no intention of using the ground for football, has
renewed its interest.
As a result, the administrator has stated he does not anticipate
football being played at Penydarren Park for the 2010-11 season.
It is thought that in the long term it would be impossible to develop
Penydarren Park for any commercial purpose, because it is a site of
special historic interest, owing to the partly excavated Roman Fort
below the ground.

Bangor City will not be held to ransom by any player over wages (May 12) 15:30
Bangor City will not be
held to ransom by any player over wages.
Powell told the Daily Post there was a strict pay structure at Farrar Road
which would not be altered for any individual.
Although the Bangor boss has already signed up the vast majority of last
season’s squad for next term, striker Lee Hunt, winger Mark Smyth and
defender Dave Swanick have yet to put pen to paper.
Hunt is understood to have attracted offers from other clubs willing to pay
well over what he receives at City, but Powell insists Bangor have no
intention of becoming involved in a wages war.
And the Citizens chief has vowed to have the futures of all his current
squad finalised by the end of this week.
“By Friday I want my squad finalised ready for pre-season training,” said
Powell, who has just signed a three-year extension on his contract with the
Welsh Cup-holders.
“I don’t want things dragging on into the summer.”
Hunt only rejoined Bangor from Rhyl on transfer deadline day, February 1,
and although he initially struggled for goals his all-round performances
hugely impressed the City management and supporters. In the Welsh Cup final
on May 1, Hunt scored and was named man of the match in the 3-2 win over
Port Talbot Town.
Powell is optimistic that talks with the Liverpudlian front man this week
will go well.
“I expect Lee Hunt to be at Bangor City next season,” he said. “He’s had a
taste of success here and what we’re all about and I can’t imagine any
reason why he wouldn’t want to be part of this club next season.
“We’re aware of other clubs offering big money, but we are not a moneybags
club, we have a strict wage structure and we’re not going to break it for
anyone.
“If Lee wants to go elsewhere for a few extra quid then there are a lot of
strikers out there waiting to jump in his place.”
Powell will also have discussions this week with Smyth, who had an
injury-affected first season back at City, as well as Swanick, who has been
out of action for some time with an Achilles problem.

Midfielder Dean Keates agrees two-year Wrexham contract
(May 12) 15:30
Experienced
midfielder Dean Keates has agreed to join Blue Square Premier side
Wrexham on a two-year contract.
Keates joined relegated League One side Wycombe Wanderers in January
until the end of the season, having been released by Peterborough United
in December.
Keates, 31, was recommended by ex-Wrexham player Darren Ferguson, the
former Peterborough manager now in charge of Preston North End.
"I am really pleased to get Dean," said Wrexham boss Dean Saunders.
"He will be a great signing for the club and is someone who is highly
thought of by everyone he has played for.
"Dean comes highly recommended by Darren Ferguson and [former Wrexham
assistant manager and player] Kevin Russell, as they are two people I
went to following their successful spell together at Peterborough."
Saunders is hoping that Keates will be able to drive Wrexham forward
from midfield as they bid to return to the Football League, having been
relegated in the 2006/7 season.
Since making his professional debut in 1996, Keates has won promotion
six times with three different clubs - Walsall, Hull City and
Peterborough.
"We have got Dean in for the middle of midfield and know he can do a job
in there," Saunders told the Wrexham website. "Dean can score goals and
he can create them.
"He is aggressive, is a good character and a good professional, which is
what I want at the club. At 31 he is experienced enough and not too old.
"Dean has won six promotions so far in his career and has played in the
Championship this season, as well as through the lower leagues.
"I wasn't sure I could get him, so I was delighted when he agreed to
sign."
Keates was one of 12 players released by Wycombe boss Gary Waddock this
week.

THE battle is on to avoid relegation from Welsh League
Div 1 (May 11) 15:20
Ely Rangers, Dinas Powys and Caerleon are all certain to go down, but the
problem for other teams still involved is the uncertainty surrounding how
many teams will be relegated.
The re-organisation of Welsh football for next season means five are
likely to go down, but it could still be more or less with appeals against
ground criteria decisions to be heard.
There are up to nine teams still involved in a battle to avoid the drop,
including former champions Ton Pentre.
They slipped to a 4-0 home defeat against Garden Village and need another
win from their last two matches to move away from danger.
Garden Village sit top of the five team drop zone and are three points
behind Ton Pentre with a game in hand.

Bulldogs forced to battle relegation without a recognised keeper (May 15:20
The Rhondda Bulldogs were dealt a major blow a few days before playing
Village when keeper James was ruled out for the rest of the season through

another keeper despite a request for special dispensation to the Football
Association of Wales.
Andrew Hughes started in goal, while Matthew O’Keefe took over at
half-time.
Derrick Jenkins gave Village a 1-0 half-time lead with Ashley Richards
(2) and Marc Lloyd also scoring.
The Bulldogs now focus on their Friday night’s home match against
Bridgend Town, who also need a win to move away from danger. (7.30pm).

Premier League Giants tracking former Aberystwyth Starlet (May 11) 15:20
Ex-Aberystwyth Town starlet Tom Bradshaw is being tracked by three
Premier League teams. The striker, who cut his teeth in the Principality
Welsh Premier League last season is being tracked by Fulham, Wolves and
Birmingham according to newspaper reports in the Sun.
The youngster joined Shrewsbury from the Seasiders twelve months ago
on second-year scholar terms, but broke into the first team recently. He
scored a brace on his debut in the Shrews 3-0 win at Crewe's Gresty Road
in April and also struck in their last game of the season.
The Shrewsbury-born Welsh speaker, who spent all of his upbringing on
the West Wales coast, was only introduced from the bench 15 minutes from
time as replacement but the Aber academy-product took just 10 minutes to
mark his introduction to league football, scoring with what was almost
his first touch.
The Seasiders revealed that the then 16 year old striker had signed
as a second year scholar with the League Two side last May, shortly
after he played for the Seasiders in the Welsh Cup Final.
The switch came after impressively breaking into the first team at
Park Avenue last season, scoring two goals from four starts and a
further five substitute appearances.

Goytre United stumble in hunt for title spot (May 10) 04:30
GOYTRE UNITED’S march to the title continues to look fragile as they went
down 4-3 at home to mid-table West End.
Chris Hall netted a brace for the visitors but also managed to concede an
own goal. Kieron Cullen and Alex Chrysantou bagged a goal apiece.
For United it was a Richard Ryan brace that added to the Hall own goal
but this was a major setback for Goytre.
Meanwhile second placed Afan Lido travelled to Cambrian and Clydach who
are also in contention in third place. Neither side was able to take
advantage of Goytre’s hiccup as the score was deadlocked at 1-1, despite a
screamer by Chris Ingram for Cambrian, Nathan White netting for the Lido.
Bryntirion will be disappointed not to snatch victory at Caldicot. For
the Banc-yr-Allt men Sean Williams found the net and Antony Rawlings got a
brace.
Lowly Dinas Powys grasped a lifeline beating Pontardawe 2-1. Chris Allen
scored for the visitors but Barry Pappin got one and a crucial own goal gave
the points to Dinas. Ely Rangers also helped their cause by beating
bottom-placed Caerleon 2-0.

Cwmbran Celtic celebrated promotion to the top flight (May 10) 04:30
Cwmbran Celtic celebrated promotion to the top flight by beating
Treharris 2-0, Scott Lanyon and Shane Williamson getting the vital goals.
Penrhiwceiber must keep the champagne on ice as they lost 4-2 away at
Newport YM. Craig Hewitt and Howard Wiltshire for the Rangers and Declan
Flanagan, Phil Tranter and an Ollie Beckett brace for YM.
It was a miserable afternoon for bottom-placed Porthcawl Town who were
thumped 8-2 at Ammanford with a brace each for Dean Jenkins, Richard Lewis
and Rupert Murray. All three scored one of their goals from the penalty
spot. Luke Fayres got the other for Ammanford while Ricky Murphy scored
twice for the Seasiders.
Another brace saw AFC Porth beat Llanwern 2-0 – Adam Wright the man on
target.
In Division Three table toppers Briton Ferry Llansawel beat mid table
Pontyclun 4-2 at Ivor Park and Cwmaman Institute kept their promotion hopes
alive by winning 2-0 at Aberbargoed Buds.
Cwmamman United and Abertillery Bluebirds both failed to find the net for
0-0 but at Troedyrhiw it was goals galore as they drew 3-3 at home to
Monmouth Town. Sean O’Brien, Michael Pope and Lloyd Martin for Troedyrhiw, a
Nick Harry brace and an Andrew Smith goal for the Town.
Goytre and Newport Civil Service also drew 2-2. Risca beat fellow
strugglers Pentwyn 1-0 – Luke Powell getting the goal.

Llandudno claim League Cup at Flint’s expense (May 10) 04:30
LLANDUDNO have a silver lining to their season in the Cymru Alliance,
having captured the League Cup at Flint’s expense in the final at Buckley.
The 2-0 triumph came about because of a goal midway in each half from Lee
Thomas and James McIlvogue.
Thomas, who took his tally to 22 for the campaign, kept his cool to
convert a 12th-minute penalty, after McIlvogue had been pushed by a Flint
defender.
Roles were reversed for Llandudno’s second goal on 73 minutes, when
McIlvogue headed home the rebound after Thomas’ initial shot was parried by
Flint’s Andy Hughes.
In the enthralling contest between the Alliance’s second and third-placed
clubs, Flint had their likely moments as well, notably involving 32-goal
scoring ace Shaun Beck.
But Llandudno’s keeper Paul Whitfield excelled to earn the plaudits as
the man of the final.
Now Llandudno can set their sights on a cup double because they are
through to the final of the North Wales Challenge Cup, awaiting the outcome
of the delayed semi-final between Llandyrnog and Porthmadog.

Ridsdale: Promotion would end Cardiff's problems (May 10) 04:30
Outgoing Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale has claimed promotion to the
Barclays Premier League could be worth as much as £90million to the club.
The Bluebirds were set to launch their Coca-Cola Championship play-off
semi-final bid against Leicester this afternoon knowing they could be just
three games away from the top flight and the riches that would bring.
Ridsdale, who arrived at the club five years ago to be charged with the
task of managing their move to a new stadium and to address debts in excess
of £30million, believes success at Wembley later this month would end their
financial concerns.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Sportsweek programme: “If the new four-season
parachute comes into being, which will be determined this summer, I think it
is worth a minimum of £90million over four years.
“That’s a lot of money when you look at what you get in the Championship
at the moment.
“Cardiff City had debts of over £30million when I arrived five years ago.
Those debts have been reduced and it now has a massive, wonderful new
stadium.
“Clearly, Premier League would solve all those problems.”
Ridsdale’s tenure is drawing to a close with a Malaysian consortium set
to take over at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins dismisses Paulo Sousa rift (May 10) 04:30
Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins says he has held a lengthy and
"positive" meeting with manager Paulo Sousa. The talk between the two men continued with the rest of the Swansea
board, and followed the club's failure to gain a place in the Championship
play-offs.
"There was a frank exchange of views... over the course of a few hours,
which was encouraging," Jenkins said.
"The clear message that came out of the meetings was that everyone is
committed to continuing the general improvement."
Swansea fell out of the play-offs after the penultimate round of games,
having been a fixture there for the best part of three months.
The Swans finished the season with three wins in their final 13 games and
struggled to score goals, despite having one of the best defences in the
Championship.
That poor finish included a seven-match winless run in March, which Sousa
claimed last month would not have happened had the squad been strengthened.
A win on the last day of the regular season would have been enough for
Swansea to jump back into the top six as rivals Blackpool were held by
Bristol City.

Leaders Briton Ferry slump to shock 6-1 defeat (May 7) 22:00
TABLE-TOPPING Briton Ferry Llansawel slid to a shock 6-1
defeat at next-to- bottom Pentwyn Dynamos in MacWhirter Welsh League
division three.
Matt Lewis reduced the deficit to 2-1 towards the end of the first half,
but the Old Road side then had Gareth Evans sent off.
The ensuing penalty made it 3-1 at the break, and the Cardiff side scored
three second-half goals without reply. The loss brought Corus Steel — 2-1
home winners over Pontyclun — back into the promotion equation.
Carl Evans gave the Steelmen a 10th-minute lead and although Pontyclun
levelled in the 65th minute, up popped top scorer Gavin Kinsey to knock in a
late winner.
Seven Sisters took another giant step towards safety, defeating South
Gower 3-0 in the Dulais Valley.
Stephen Williams nudged Seven ahead in the 32nd minute and almost
immediately Andy Morrow doubled the lead.
And the game was over for the Tractor Boys once Huw Littlewood netted on
55 minutes.
Cwmamman United picked up a useful point at Llantwit Fardre where Nathan
McNeil collected an 11th goal of the campaign.
In division two, Ammanford bounced back to form with a 2-1 home victory
over promotion-seeking AFC Llwydcoed.
The Rice Roaders benefited from an early goal — Richard Lewis registering
his 21st of the season — while Llwydcoed keeper Rhys Jones conceded an
own-goal. Ammanford goalkeeper Stuart Lloyd saved a second-half penalty, but
the Aberdare side eventually pulled a goal back through Chris Vardon.

I want to end my playing days here
at Stebonheath' says Griffiths (May 5) 15:00
RHYS Griffiths insists he is ready to end his playing
days at Llanelli.
The striker's current contract runs out at the end of May and he has been in
informal talks with chairman Nitin Parekh over a new deal for a number of
months.Griffiths hopes he will be able to sign a fresh agreement in the next
couple of weeks as the 30-year-old looks to prepare for the club's Europa
League preparations.
"I want to stay at the club and the chairman wants me to stay, so
hopefully we can come to an agreement," he said.
"I think we're getting close, it's something we've been talking about
since last summer.
"I feel now that I've had enough success not to have to play year to
year.
"I'd like to stay at the club until I finish and I don't intend to carry
on playing past my best.
"As long as we continue to challenge and do well, I don't see any reason
to go anywhere else."

Cardiff City given 42 days to clear tax debt (May 5) 15:00
CARDIFF City was given a further 42 days to clear
the club's £1.9m tax debt by the High Court in London today.
The Championship club was told the adjournment would be marked "final"
meaning it will almost certainly be wound up if the money is not paid in
time.
Cardiff City is expecting to receive a cash injection of nearly £6m if
shareholders approve a Malaysian investment in exchange for the creation of
new shares.
A shareholders meeting has been scheduled for later this month to approve
the investment.
Cardiff City has been in and out of the High Court in recent months over
two separate winding up petitions taken out by Her Majesty's Revenue and
Customs. At the last hearing in March, the club was given 56 days and told
it was its "last chance".
Today, however, lawyers for HMRC asked the Mr Registrar Simmonds at
London’s High Court to adjourn the case for a further 42 days for the club
to pay up “in full.”
It is understood that they reached agreement with Cardiff City over the
adjournment last week after being shown papers relating to the investment.
At the last hearing, counsel for the tax man had argued that the club
should be wound up there and then. He had argued that it was “plainly
insolvent.”
Had the club been wound up today, its affairs would have been effectively
handed over to an Official Receiver.
His job is then to do his best to ensure that debts are paid off by
selling any assets available and then bringing business to a close.

Jones bemoans Port Talbot inexperience as Bangor take cup (May 3) 15:00
PORT Talbot’s inexperience
was a key factor in their dramatic Welsh Cup final defeat at Llanelli.
Bangor City lifted the
trophy for the third successive season as a far younger Port Talbot team fell to
an injury time winner.
“Our inexperience showed
when we fought back to make it 2-2,” said Port Talbot manager Mark Jones.
“Our team is far younger
than Bangor’s and we were running to take free-kicks and corners.
“Their winning goal followed
our corner.
“We ran to take it but
Bangor goalkeeper Paul Smith caught the ball and launched the attack which led
to their winner.
“If the game had gone to
extra time I could only see us winning because of our youth.
“But we will be all the
better for games like this, one which will go down as one of the great Welsh Cup
finals.”
Jones was quick to praise
former Cardiff City goalkeeper Lee Kendall, whose early error led to Bangor’s
first goal. “Lee is the best non-Football League goalkeeper in Wales,” said
Jones, whose Port Talbot team have qualified for next season’s Europa League by
finishing third in the Welsh Premier League.

Hartson still hopeful of
Barry job (May 3) 07:00
JOHN Hartson is still hoping
to become Barry Town’s director of football.
The former Wales striker
admits he hasn’t heard from Barry for some time but says he is awaiting further
talks.
Businessman Clayton Jones is
working to become Barry’s new owner and the legalities are almost complete.
Jones wants Hartson, who has
earned all the Uefa coaching qualifications, to work alongside manager Gavin
Chesterfield.
“If the right management job
comes along I would certainly consider it,” said Hartson.
“I had early discussions
with Barry but it has gone a bit flat.
“We had general discussions
and they went well and we shook hands on getting together again. I am waiting to
hear.
“A big factor is that my
health has improved 100%.
“If anybody was worried
about that side of things there is no need.
“I am fine and ready to work
hard in the right job.”
Barry have completed their
MacWhirter Welsh League fixtures and Chesterfield is already planning for the
new season at Jenner Park.
Hartson is viewed as the
ideal man to help lead Barry back to the top flight of Welsh domestic football .
. . and into European competition.
Hartson – who won 51 caps
for Wales – has previously turned down the chance to take over Scottish club
East Stirling.
“We believe Gavin and John
can work together,” said Jones.
“Our hope is that John would
be director of football and work well alongside Gavin.”

"Hopefully it will be the
news that I want to hear and I'll be staying here.

here, that's not a problem at all for me.

"I hope this is the start of a new era for Port Talbot. Hopefully we can go
on and challenge for honours," he said."In the long term we want to be
serious contenders for the league title.
"It will be hard to challenge the likes of Llanelli and The New Saints,
but we've got a good squad.
"We set ourselves the target of finishing third at the start of the
season, but we didn't shout about it, we just went quietly about our
business.

Goytre hit by draw with bottom side Caerleon (May 3) 07:00
GOYTRE UNITED’S bid to lift the Welsh League Division One title faltered
after they were held 1-1 by bottom club Caerleon.
In the end they were fortunate to snatch a point after they had fallen
behind to an Andy Edwards strike eight minutes from time.
It took a last-minute penalty from Richard Ryan to get a point.
But the leaders will still consider it two points dropped as they battle
with Afan Lido for top honours.
Goytre now lead their rivals by four points but Lido have two crucial
games in hand.
Caerleon remain bottom of the table but for eight minutes they thought
they were on the verge of clinching a notable scalp.
Bryntirion moved into fourth following a 2-1 victory over struggling
Garden Village who scored through Lee Rastatter.
Bryntirion scored in each half through Tom Wellington and Ricky Hodge to
keep alive their outside chances of challenging the leaders.
Ely Rangers snatched a crucial 3-2 triumph at Bettws to improve their
prospects of staving off relegation. Lee Greenhall scored both Bettws goals,
but Gareth West, Danny Hooper and Neil Coleman were all on target for Ely to
see them home.
Caldicot Town went down 2-1 to Pontardawe Town while Cambrian & Clydach
were 2-0 winners over Aberaman Athletic and Taffs Well and Bridgend Town
fought out a 1-1 draw.

Port Talbot lose out in injury
time to Bangor
in cup final
(May 1) 14:35
Dave Morley's injury time header ensured Bangor City lifted the Welsh Cup
for the third successive year at Llanelli's Parc Y Scarlets.
Lee Hunt put the Citizens ahead on six minutes after an error by Town
keeper Lee Kendall, and Jamie Reed doubled the lead nine minutes later.
But Town rallied after the break, Drew Fahiya firing home before Liam
McCreesh levelled with six minutes left.
It was all in vane though as Morley rose highest to head home a free
kick.
Bangor are just the sixth team in the Welsh Cup's 133-year history to
complete a hat-trick of victories - the last was Barry Town's three
successive wins between 2001 and 2003.
Bangor manager Neville Powell: "It looked like Port Talbot were
going to come back and win it but one thing these players have got is guts
and work.
"This means so much to so many people and these lads have been fantastic
all season and got what they deserved.
"We're back in Europe where we should be and it rounds of a great season
for us."
Port Talbot manager Mark Jones: "We made a bad start to the game
but my boys showed their spirit, they're great fighters and I thought when
we came back to 2-2 we only needed extra time because their legs have gone.
"But you've got to give them great credit as they've gone up the other
end and got the winner.
"I couldn't ask any more from my boys, I'm not going to make any excuses,
just congratulate the three-times champions."
