We eased our way into the next round of the cup
on a baking afternoon. The only down side was Mike Lewis picked up an injury and
had to be replaced by Shaun Morgan at half time.
We attacked from the start and Carl Payne made
ground down the right and crossed but he hit it beyond the far post and everyone
had been dragged into the centre so the chance was lost. Seven won a couple of
free kicks around the half way but Rhys Williams cleared both with ease. We took
the lead on 12 minutes when Carl Payne shot from 30 yards, it hit a defender and
the post, as the keeper turned he hit the ball into the net. We should have
been two up minutes later when Scott McCoubrey took a corner which went across
the face of the goal inside the six yard box and neither side got a touch. On
the quarter hour Seven had their best chance of the game and it followed another
free kick on half way. The ball was played out to the left wing and crossed in,
a Seven player got above everyone to head goalwards from about 15 yards, the
ball hit the crossbar and bounced down and was knocked behind for a corner.
We went two up on 21 minutes, Scott McCoubrey
played the ball to Nathan White wide left, he beat the offside trap cut in to
the penalty area and drilled the ball past the keeper. We went three up on 27
minutes when Seven lost possession from their throw, Shaun Morgan was 25 yards
out looked up and curled a shot into the top right hand corner of the net. It
should have been four on the half hour after Carl Payne found Scott McCoubrey,
Scott was forced wide but squared it to Nathan White but the keeper closed him
down and saved. A minute later it was four this time Nathan found Scott, he took
it around the defender and shot from the penalty spot giving the keeper no
chance.
Sam McCoy went on at half time and he was
immediately in the action, Carl Payne won the ball in midfield and passed to
Nathan White, he squared the ball in for Sam who shot first time from 25 yards
forcing a fine save from the keeper. McCoy was also involved in the fifth goal
on 49 minutes, he played the ball wide to Nathan White, his cross was headed on
by Carl Payne for Scott McCoubrey to head in from 6 yards. We showed good
awareness following a free kick on 55 minutes, we took it quickly and Scott
McCoubrey turned and shot first time, the ball hitting the side netting. Shaun
Morgan fumbled a free kick on 62 minutes but recovered before any attacker could
react, the main interest now was if he'd keep a clean sheet.
Carl Payne made it 6-0 on 69 minutes, he
received a cross in the box and his shot was blocked but the ball rebounded to
him and he made no mistake. Sam McCoy made a 30 yard run down the left and
crossed to Nathan White who turned and shot but the keeper managed to beat the
shot away. The keeper saved another Carl Payne shot but he was beaten again on
84 minutes when a four man move resulted in a low cross to the far post which
Carl knocked in.
So our number 7 (Carl) scored the seventh
against Seven!
