garden village 2-1 AFAN LIDO

Look at the bottom of the table, how have we done when we've visited these clubs? Starting at the bottom and working up, Caerleon lost 3-0, Dinas Powys drew 1-1 with a goal in added on time. Ely Rangers scraped a 2-1 win, Bettws glad to come away with a 1-1 draw. Garden Village lost 2-1, West End lost 2-1.
All these sides were of limited ability, otherwise they'd be top of the league but what did they have, they all gave 110% effort and worked for each other, were up in our faces and didn't give us time on the ball. We've been unable to cope with that all season.
For the first ten minutes we took the game to Village who needed a win to try and keep their first division status. They were nervous and were there for the taking, the keeper couldn't hold the ball and it was a matter of time before we took the lead. In that opening 10 minutes Scott McCoubrey hit a first time effort over the bar and Mark Jones was causing them problems. What happened after that, well we dwelt on the ball in the back in one of their first sorties into our half and we lost the ball 35 yards out, Mike Lewis made a terrific save turning the ball away for a corner. In came a well flighted corner and an unfortunate Chris Pridham in trying to head the ball for another corner only succeeded in heading the ball into the top corner of the net. Village were lifted by this and immediately attacked again winning a series of corners. The keeper who couldn't hold the ball now saved everything we threw at him. We got nothing from the ref, Mark Jones went down in the area but nothing was awarded, to counteract that one a Village player went down but again no penalty. They were awarded a free kick just outside the area, unlike our free kicks they hit the crossbar, luckily it went over for a goal kick. We had a couple of chances in the first half but a now inspired keeper saved the lot.
We equalised after 51 minutes, Scott McCoubrey found Corey Thomas wide right in the area and his cross was met at the far post by Nathan White who netted. We now had the upper hand but Nathan missed from a couple of yards, hopefully he was offside otherwise it was a terrible miss for a player of his ability. Shaun Galsworthy made a superb tackle near the touchline and won the ball, amazingly not only did the ref deem it a foul, he added insult to injury by booking Shaun. Then on 61 minutes we shot ourselves in the foot, a clearance hit a Village player and bounced kindly for them. The ball was crossed from the right and headed in by an unmarked striker. Mark Jones then blocked a Village clearance and shot low to the keeper's right but he got down to turn the ball away for a corner. It was even more difficult for us on 74 minutes when Nathan White was fouled but kicked out at the offender and got a straight red, the offender got up smiling and didn't even have a yellow. We were then denied a blatant penalty on 76 minutes, Scott McCoubrey was fouled at least two yards inside the area right in line where we were standing. Somehow the ref gave us a free kick two yards outside the area. Minutes later a great ball into the box by Gavin Jones was met by Scott McCoubrey and he was unlucky that his effort went just over the bar. For a period of minutes we peppered the Village goal with numerous shots but the keeper was now having the game of his life and saved everything. Frustration grew and Shaun Galsworthy who this season has rarely been booked was shown a straight red. In added on time Jonathan Hood played the ball into the box and yet again the keeper saved from a combination of Luke Borrelli and Scott McCoubrey.
