Scott McCoubrey scored to put us ahead after 82
minutes of a tense final game. Yet again however we failed to keep a
clean sheet with Richard French scoring in the first minute of added
time and Richard Ryan in the fourth to complete an unlikely comeback
and regaining the league championship.
We started well with Carl Payne getting to the by-line and crossing into the 6 yard box while Jacob Daley following a strong run played a ball through which Mike Lewis claimed. Richard Ryan shot over the bar from a good position and then Mike Lewis cleared the ball down to Mark Jones who was just unable to create enough space to shoot, eventually the ball went out for a corner. Mark then played a great ball for Dan Thomas who shot first time but at Chris Curtis in goal. Corey Thomas cut in and crossed to Carl Payne but from a decent position he headed wide. On 20 minutes Daniel Thomas played a diagonal ball to Scott McCoubrey who shot first time and almost caught Curtis out. In added on time Mike Lewis dived to save a shot from Ryan Shugar and played it forward to Robbie Walters who lost the ball as the half time whistle went.
Goytre came out with more purpose in the second half but neither side looked like they were going to score. Chris Curtis lost a through ball but before Robbie Walters could do anything with it he managed to regain the ball. With 12 minutes to go Scott McCoubrey set up a shooting chance for Corey Thomas but his shot was blocked and the ball cleared with Goytre winning a corner. Then on 82 minutes a great ball through by Chris Pridham found Mark Jones, his shot hit the post and Scott McCoubrey reacted first to score. Goytre now poured forward and in the 91st minute won a corner which Mike Lewis failed to cut out. The ball was headed into the six yard box and any one of three or four players had the chance to score. Richard French received the ball and scored from a couple of yards. That was game over for us and in pushing forward looking for an unlikely second we allowed Richard Ryan a rare chance which he took.
