AFAN LIDO 9-1 Dinas Powys

At last the chances we've been creating in the last couple of games have been turned into goals. This was our biggest win since we beat Garw 11-0 on August 31st 2007. Besides scoring 9 Dinas Powys cleared 2 off the line and Robbie Walters headed an excellent chance over the bar. Credit must be given to Dinas Powys who had the last word with their goal by Jacob Rudman after 79 minutes. Being over critical we failed to score after the 68th minute.
There was no sign of the goal glut to come in the opening minutes, Carl Payne had made the first break but his cross was easily held by Dinas keeper Peter Blaine. Dinas in fact kept possession quite well early on and a number of our passes went straight to them allowing them to build some momentum. However on 13 minutes Mark Jones chested the ball into Robbie Walters path he made ground down the right but his cross was just too high for Nathan White and a chance was lost. A foul by Mark Jones led to a free kick for Dinas which they played into our box but their 5 Tony Roberts was offside. From Mike Lewis' free kick we scored, his kick was headed on and Scott McCoubrey crossed the ball in from the left. For some reason Peter Blaine fumbled the ball giving Robbie Walters the easiest of tasks to score (19 minutes). Within two minutes Scott McCoubrey played a great ball through for Nathan White who lifted the ball over the onrushing Blaine, unluckily for Nathan a defender got back to clear off the line. We continued to attack and a strong run from Chris Pridham resulted in him being fouled in the box. Mark Jones stepped up to take the penalty, the keeper made a fine save but the ball had too much power and crept over the line (25 minutes). The floodgates now opened and 5 minutes later Mark Jones received the ball just outside the area and the keeper was also outside the area challenging Mark for the ball, Mark managed to slip it to Robbie Walters who again had the simple task of shooting into the unguarded net (30 minutes). A Lido free kick saw Robbie's hat trick when he headed in a Nathan White cross (35 minutes) and three minutes later Mark Jones was in space in the area, drew the keeper and dinked it over him for number 5 (38 minutes). Mark was unlucky on 41 minutes, he received the ball on the edge of the area and his first time shot went inches wide.
Within a minute of the second half Mark made it 6-0 when he fired home a right footed shot from the edge of the area. Nathan White got on the score sheet after 54 minutes when he picked up a loose ball 30 yards out, made ground and scored with a right footed shot from the edge of the area to make it seven. Mark Jones grabbed his fourth after 58 minutes following a 1-2 between Carl Payne and Corey Thomas, Corey then found Robbie Walters who set Mark up for the eighth (58 minutes). Robbie Walters was unlucky minutes later when in a role reversal Mark Jones played him in, his shot beat the keeper but a defender got back to clear off the line. Scott McCoubrey and Nathan White then had shots saved before Corey Thomas dribbled his way through, played a 1-2 with Nathan whose shot was saved, it rebounded out to the penalty spot and Carl Payne drilled the ball in to make it 9-0. After we made our substitutions Dinas had more of the ball and in a rare attack they scored after 79 minutes, Jacob Rudman firing low to Mike Lewis' right.Try as we might we couldn't hit double figures with several players taking wrong options, but given the scoreline I don't suppose you could blame them.
