7-1 West End
The under 19's ended their season
with a 7-1 win over West End. We nearly conceded in the
first seconds when a poor defensive pass allowed West End to
attack but Rory McCreesh beat the attacker to the ball and
cleared. Carl Payne had a shot turned away for a corner after 6
minutes and then he headed the corner at the keeper. However the
goal came after 9 minutes when Corey Thomas in his final youth
match shot high to the keeper's left, he got a hand to it but
couldn't prevent the ball going into the net. On another day
Carl Payne could have scored five or six but it just didn't happen
in front of goal for him in the first half. We also tended to over
elaborate and weren't clinical enough in front of goal. We finally
scored the second after 43 minutes when Rory McCreesh made a save
from a free kick, threw the ball out and Carl Payne made ground
down the right and squared it for Jonathan Hood to score with a
left footed shot. It was a well taken goal by Jonathan which
should now make the game safe.
We went three up after 49
minutes when Josh Cockings scored with a near post header from a
corner. The floodgates now opened and Carl Payne played Jonathan
Hood in, the keeper saved his first effort but the ball rebounded
to Jonathan and he made no mistake second time. Luke Borrelli and
Daniel Symmons replaced Matt Doyle and Jonathan Hood on 61 minutes
and almost immediately Daniel played in Carl Payne to make it
five. A poor clearance from Rory McCreesh led to West End's goal
when he kicked the ball straight to a West End player thirty yards
out and he shot over Rory into the empty net. Daniel Symmons was
unlucky on 71 minutes when his first time shot hit the post but he
got his goal on 83 minutes when Corey Thomas played him in and his
left footed shot gave the keeper no chance. With three minutes to
go Damon Thomas beat a couple of defenders and passed to Carl
Payne who made it seven.
