This was probably our worst
performance of the season to date with two goals in the last 11
minutes securing all three points.
Haverfordwest started the
better they were finding their players better and their work rate
was excellent while we couldn't pass from a to b for long periods
of the game. It came as no surprise that after 14 minutes
Haverfordwest took the lead, the only surprise was how it came
about. They had the ball right out on their right hand
touchline and Josh Cockings appealed for a throw in which wasn't
given. The Haverfordwest player cut inside, shot over Rory
McCreesh who had left his line to receive a back pass from Josh,
and into the far corner of the net. Following a Haverfordwest
corner we broke Damon Thomas cleared to Joel Kabia who shot from
outside the area, the ball went well wide but at least we'd had a
shot. We put some pressure on them by winning a couple of
corners but they were cleared and we finally produced a fine
passing move involving several players but the final pass went
through to the keeper. Defensively were had difficulty in
clearing corners and Haverfordwest went two up on 34 minutes when
we failed to deal with a corner. We now had a mountain to
climb and needed a goal before the interval, Luke Borrelli tried
his luck from 30 yards but it was straight at the keeper but then
on 44 minutes the ball was played in to Joel Kabia just inside the
box, he took the ball on a couple of yards before shooting low to
the keeper's right to get us back in the game.
At half time we replaced Steve Hughes with Remi Whitelock and he
knocked in a free kick on 50 minutes which they managed to clear
for a corner. Again we had a series of corners but no-one
managed to get a head to them then from the final one they headed
the ball out to Luke Borrelli 25 yards out, he controlled the ball
but shot just wide. Sean Sullivan picked up a loose ball on
half way and ran 20 yards before shooting, the keeper got down
well to turn the shot away for another corner. On the hour
Carl Payne replaced Joel Kabia and almost immediately he played a
1-2 with Corey Thomas who headed the ball goalwards but he was
given offside. Darren Franks played a great ball through to
Carl Payne with twenty minutes to go, Carl played it into Remi
Whitelock's path and from 25 yards he shot first time but again
the keeper made a good save.
We finally equalised on 79
minutes when from a right wing corner Remi Whitelock knocked it
into the middle and Carl Payne headed the ball goalwards.
Somehow it went through a mass of players ending up in the net
with Damon Thomas and Sean Sullivan also in the frame for the
goal. Spurred on by this we went looking for a winner and
Luke Borrelli from wide right found Carl Payne and yet again their
keeper made a good save. The winner duly arrived on 87 minutes
when Carl Payne wide right crossed in to Corey Thomas who from 8
yards headed the ball just inside the post having wrong footed the
keeper who gambled on him heading to the opposite side of the
goal. Haverfordwest now pushed forward in pursuit of an
equaliser and won a free kick and a late corner but we held on to
take the three points.
