Afan Lido FC match reports

April 25

Afan Lido 2-1 Port Talbot

As there was no first team game Scott McCoubrey and Mika Chunuonsee had a run out for the reserves and both scored in this 2-1 win. Both sides took some time to settle down but we took the initiative in the sixth minute when the ball was played into the box from the right and Scott McCoubrey got a touch to turn it past the keeper. We went two up on 15 minutes when the keeper fumbled a Scott McCoubrey cross and Mika Chunuonsee reacted quickest to score. From the kick off Port Talbot attacked and shot past Gareth Couch in goal but Justin Williams was covering and managed to clear the ball off the line. We were now playing with some confidence as highlighted by Karl Roberts finding Justin Williams, he played it to Adam Beynon who found Shaun Best the move only broke down when Shaun's pass to Scott McCoubrey was too strong and went out for a goal kick.  Both sides had shots easily saved by the keepers but Scott McCoubrey came close to extending the lead when he flicked on a free kick which hit a defender and bounced clear.

Port Talbot started the second half well and pulled a goal back after 52 minutes the shot giving Gareth Couch no chance. We were awarded a free kick and from that a corner. Josh Cokeley got up highest and appeared to have scored, the ball being cleared from behind the line but unfortunately the referee was not in a position to give it and had no linesman to help. Hopefully this won't come back to haunt us. Port Talbot continued to attack but in the main we managed to hold a good line and make it difficult. With 10 minutes to go Scott McCoubrey played the ball in to Adam Beynon his first time shot was headed behind for a corner. Scott McCoubrey played the ball in low to Mika Chunuonsee and his shot hit the crossbar and was played out for another corner which was cleared. Port Talbot ended the game with a series of corners from one Josh Cokeley headed it off the line and in the dying moments we were awarded a couple of free kicks to relieve the pressure on our goal.
