All square at the Marston |
The start didn't go as we had hoped when Bettws took the lead
on 7 minutes with a Paul Jones goal. Then we had 2 chances to
draw level, on 8 minutes we were awarded a penalty, and Darren
Griffiths missed the spot kick.
On 10 minutes we missed
another chance when we had a header cleared of the line.
Shortly after Bettws were awarded a penalty and doubled their
lead 2-0, Cosker did well to save the shot but 38 year old
Joff Wile was first to the ball , and we were facing an uphill
task for the 2nd half 2 goals down.
We got the perfect start
to the 2nd half when Mike Waters got a goal back on 46
minutes, no more goals until the 69th minute when Paul Jones
scored his 2nd and Bettw's 3rd, all looked over for the Lido
at this stage.
With 12 minutes left
Justin Williams gave us a glimmer of a come back when he
scored and made it 3-2, the come back was complete in injury
time when Corey Thomas saved us from losing 4 league games on
the trot and salvage a point. While we managed to score 3
today, one alarming stat is we have now conceded 15 goals in
our last 5 league games.
Lido's man of the match
was Carl Payne for his display in the last 30 minutes after
coming on as a sub.

Under 12 Rangers beat Cynffig 2-1 |
Another win for the Kirk & Geoff's Rangers yesterday against close
rivals Cynffig.
We won 2 - 1 in the end, scorers were
Owen Prydie and Jake Howe.
We took the lead in the
first half when Owen Prydie scored minutes after we missed a
penalty. Jake Howe scored mid way through the 2nd half
before Cynffig scored very late on which made for a nervous
last 5 minutes.
We held on to record our 3rd win of
the season.
Monday night sees us take on Port Talbot at home which as
always should prove a close and exciting game. Will
let you know the score ASAP as I am away till Tuesday night.

Ento on Euro mission to carry valley flag
|
ENTO Aberaman chiefs are
determined to bring European football to the Cynon Valley.
David Morgan, Ento
vice-chairman and manager, is adamant the club will be
European regulars within five years.
“The ambition is clear,
to play Welsh Premier League football,” said Morgan.
“In five years’ time
we want to be competing with the big boys year on year, and
competing in Europe.”
Morgan is director of
marketing and communications at the Ento group whose
sponsorship of Aberaman has provided a major facelift at the
previously MacWhirter Welsh League Division One strugglers.
Now the club sit second in
the league and are primed for promotion after new facilities
– including a 300-seater stand – were added at Aberaman
Park
“We have rebuilt the
ground over the summer to match the criteria set by the Welsh
League,” said Morgan.
“The ground lends itself
to further development.
“The new facilities have
also allowed us to attract better players.”
And Morgan is certain that
Aberaman has a potentially huge fan base.
“I see no reason why
Aberaman can’t bring in healthy crowds for European
fixtures,” he said.
“We are the premier club
in the Cynon Valley which has a population of over 60,000.”
And, with Barry Town on
the brink of going out of existence after being the Welsh
Premier’s top club, Morgan said the club’s financial feet
are firmly on the ground.
“I am a businessman
first and foremost, and we are trying to build a sustainable
football club at Aberaman,” said Morgan.
“We would never
overstretch ourselves, but as a company, we will back the club
all the way to the Premier League.”
Morgan, who also takes
control of on-field matters as manager, was keen to point to
the club’s acquisitions as a measure of their success.
“Over the last few
seasons we have brought in big players like Layton Maxwell,
who was at Liverpool and played for Cardiff City.
“And Chris Summers is
the highest scorer in the history of the Welsh League and
still banging in the goals.”

Under 14 Colts win again |
The

Park.
Due to Phil's work commitments Nigel Hunt was coaching them
along with
his no.2 Steve Tucker and his no.3 Dai Evans and his no.4 Lee
Glover his no.5……………
Also present was Physio Paddy O'Callaghan in case of any
Emergencies………..
Such as breaking into a car to steal the stereo.
Darren Flynn was probably probably working overtime!!!!!!
While our Colts gained
their first league win , our Rangers side tasted defeat for
the first time, as they lost 2-1 against a good Baglan side.
Our scorer was Ben Thomas.

Reserves preview of Saturday's home game against Garden Village |
This Saturday the
2nds go in search of their 6th straight win, when Garden
Village stand in their way of maintaining their 100% winning
record.
The Swansea side currently
lie in 5th place but have only played 3 games, they have had 2
wins and 1 defeat, their only defeat came against Ammanford
3-2, they have recorded wins over Porthcawl and Bryntirion.
Not sure if any 1st team
players will figure in the squad as they have a weekend off,
so it could be an even stronger line up than the table toppers
would normally field (not that they need any strengthening)
Following Saturday's game
the Reserves have a long wait until their next league action,
as they wont be in league action until November 1st when they
travel to Locks Lane to play Porthcawl.

The under 12
Rangers are really taking to 11 a side soccer and Geoff Davies
side went on a goal scoring spree when they played Goytre away
tonight.
They beat the home side
16-0 no it wasn't rugby it was soccer, and its a good job I
don't have to write this report using a pen or I'd run out of
ink penning the scorers.
Our scorers were:Harri
Kane Thomas 4, Owen Prydie 3, Jared Price 3, Joshua Thomas 2,
Aaron Goff 2, Jake Howe and Sam Thomas 1.
That's
25 goals in the 2 games played so far his season, and none

Lido's unbeaten Reserves take on Goytre
|
Our
unbeaten Reserves take on neighbours Goytre at Glenhafod Park
today in the first derby of the season.
Goytre
have had a mixed start to the season winning two and losing
two, but they are on two game losing streak following wins in
their first two games.
They
will be up for the derby and favourites tags for both teams
will go out the window. The Reserves top scorer Carl Payne
will be missing from the team as he has been brought into the
first team squad for the welsh cup tie.
But
even if the unheard happens as we lose we will still be in top
position even if next nearest challengers Pontardawe win as we
are 3 points clear and have an 8 goal better goal difference,
but losing won't be a word on the tongues of out table toppers
tomorrow.

Team news and match preview for Cwmamman Utd Cup tie
|
This Saturday we start a 3 week break from league soccer as we
concentrate on cup competitions.
We face a possible banana
skin against Cwmamman United at the Marston, they are having
their best start to a season in the welsh league since they
joined in the 2002/03. They came up as champions of the South
Wales amateur league the season before. They are the only team
in the welsh league to still have a 100% win record
after 4 games, while most would pick a home win, means they
will have nothing to lose and can enjoy the game with no
pressure on them.
Lido Squad:
L Cosker - D Kingdom - C

Goytre beat Lido 2-0
|
Lido had the better of a goalless first half, but Goyt's hit
the post near half time with a Richard Ryan effort.
It remained scoreless
until 80 minutes when Ryan made up for his earlier miss and
found the back of the net.
Six minutes later Goyt's
made sure of all 3 points when poor defending let Goytre in
for their 2nd goal.
Full time Goytre 2-0 Lido.
After tonight's result
Goytre move up to 4th while we stay rooted one place above the
relegation zone in 15th.
We have now suffered 3
defeats on the trot and what looked like a possible promotion
push this season, it is now looking like the season is
over (as far as promotion goes) after just 5 games.
Team:
L Cosker - I Turner - D Kingdom - C Evans - S
Morgan - M Waters - D Thomas - T Wellington - K

Afan Lido lose under 13's star to Cardiff City
|
 |
Some
good news has reached the club today in the form of
Joseph Jones has earned a 2 year contract with Cardiff
City Academy. |
This is JJ's 3rd time on
trial and as they say 3rd time lucky.
Joseph will now be rubbing shoulders with the big guns of the
Championship along with ex Lido boys Lewis Holmes and Luke
Fleming.
He is due to
sign tonight at a press conference at the Vale Hotel with
Academy Manager Neil Ardley, Peter Ridsdale and 1st team
Gaffer Dave Jones.
It will be a
blow to lose JJ (who was 2006/07 Player of the Year) as he has
been such an instrumental figure ever since we started junior
football. To lose him to Cardiff City is a massive plus
though.
It obviously
goes to show that the Junior section are doing the right
things in terms of Player Development and sides such as
Cardiff City are recognising that major factor.
We wish JJ
along with Luke and Lewis the very best of LUCK in the future
and obviously hope they will set a little cash aside for the
coach who started off their careers when they make it big
time.

Squad & preview for the Goytre United league game Friday
night
|
Friday night we make the short distance to play Goytre Utd.
They have made a sound
start to the season and are unbeaten in their 3 league games
so far, 2 at home, though they have drawn their last 2 games
both against teams we have played this season, their last home
game they drew 0-0 against Pontardawe, and their last game
they shared 6 goals away with Bryntirion.
They have a potent attack
this season, with the signings of Robbie Waters & Jonathan
Keaveny in
pre-season
Our strike force has been strengthened
yesterday with the signing of Mark Jones who joins on a 3
month loan from Llanelli, and he goes straight into the squad
for Friday night's game.
Last season we had an
enjoyable visit to the Glenhafod Park Stadium, when goals from
Steve Davies & Shaun Morgan saw us come away with a 2-1
win, though they did win at the Marston on 24th of November in
what was the gaffers first game in charge of the team.
A win for us could see us
move as high as 6th in the table, while a win for Goytre could
see them move to 3rd.
Squad:
L Cosker - R McCreesh - I Turner - D Kingdom - C Evans - S
Morgan - M Waters - D Thomas - C Thomas - T Wellington - K
Lewis - I Jones - M Jones - J Felton - S Crabbe - D Williams.

Reserves go 3 points clear a the top following tonight's home
win
|
With Pontardawe's home game against 7 sisters postponed a home
win for Lido would see our Reserves go 3 points clear at the
top of the table, there was just the small matter of beating
Cwmamman Utd at home, and we managed that with a 3-0 win at
the Marston.
We now have a 4 win streak
going and yet to concede a goal in the league this season, and
have scored 17 goals.
Tonight's scorers were
Steve Hughes, Carl Payne & Remi Whitelock.

Mark Jones re-signs for Afan Lido
|
Young Mark Jones has
re-signed for Lido today.
He will stay on loan from
Llanelli until January 1st.
Mark started last season
with the Lido and scored 6 goals in his 4 league games before
joining the Reds.
Since Mark has been at
Stebo he carried on his goalscoring feats with the Reds, he
has scored 11 goals in his 11 full games and 15 as a sub.
Mark's main reason for
joining Lido is he feels his first team opportunities at
Stebonheath with be limited with Rhys Griffiths, Jason Bowen
and Mark Pritchard before him in the pecking order.
Mark came through the
ranks of the Afan Lido youth system before joining Cardiff
City, but he was released at the end of 2006-07.
Mark made his debut for Llanelli
in September 2007 against Aberystwyth Town and came on as a
sub in a 1-0 Welsh Premier win for his new club.
The loan deal allows
Llanelli to recall Jonah at any time after 28 days have
passed.
