Lido win
comfortably against a young Palace side |
| |
We came out comfortable 4-1 winners of a very
young Crystal Palace side.
We got on he score sheet after 25 minutes with
a penalty converted by Ianto, and on 32 minutes Ianto doubled our lead with his
2nd goal of the game. But the 2 goal lead lasted only a minute when Palace made
it 2-1.
Sam Wade restored our 2 goal lead on the 80th
minute and the evergreen Paul Evans made it 4-1 on 86 minutes, to round off a
good display for the Lido.
Man of the match was the evergreen Paul Evo,
well done Evo, the oldest player on the pitch and pick of the bunch tonight.
The only down side was a small crowd of just
250.

A Graham Evan's
goal gives Aber victory over Lido |
| |
In our first home friendly of the pre-season, we
took on Welsh Premier side Aberystwth.
The game was settled by Aber's new signing
Graham Evans, who scored on the stroke of half time.
It was also the first game for new signing Ian
Turner, who signed forms for Lido before the kick off. Ian was formerly with
neighbours Goytre United.
Ian's signing is a welcome one as we have lost
the services of Steve Davies who has signed for a club near Gloucester where he
will be at university.

Leon Cosker - David Kingdom - Steve Crabbe - K Lewis - Dan McGrath - Carl Evans - Mike Waters - Ian Turner -
Corey Thomas - Paul Evans - John Felton.

Afan Lido win
opening friendly |
| |
Afan Lido won their opening friendly
match of the pre-season when we travelled to face division 3 side
Cwmamman United. Mike Waters
scored the only goal of the game on 28 minutes with a 23 yard pile
driver.
In a game that saw the two Evo's
(Paul & Carl) make a return in the Lido colours and a first for Sam
Wade and Ian Turner, both playing well as did young Corey Thomas.
On the downside Carl Evans picked
up a knee injury during the game.
More on the game to follow.

Port Talbot's
major signing of the summer leaves after just 27 days |
| |
Port Talbot's
major signing of the summer Lee Phillips has left the club after
just 27 days at the club.
Manager Nicky Tucker said "Lee
has informed us that he wishes to speak to Llanelli following their
seven day notice of approach and for that reason we have released
him from the club"
He
also said
“I am very surprised and disappointed this has happened and find
very strange and unprofessional that the two parties could not come
to an agreement while they were negotiating his new contract at the
end of the season. No player is bigger than the club and as Lee
obviously hasn’t got the commitment to play for Port Talbot Town he
will not be returning to us”.

A 2nd club about to disappear from the welsh league |
| |
GRANGE Quins are set to quit
MacWhirter Welsh League football because they will not have a
stadium to start the season.
They are due to play at the new Cardiff Athletics Stadium during the
coming season, but have now been told it will not be available until
October at least.
And, in a second shock Welsh League move, Pontypridd Town could
merge with South Wales Amateur League club Treforest.
Quins have been forced to cancel their pre-season match against a
Cardiff City ‘Stars of the Future’ team to mark their move to the
new stadium – and call off a Friday evening match against Ely
Rangers on August 22.
“I have told Welsh League officials we are unable to continue,” said
Quins’ chairman and secretary Steve May.
“We have not made that decision final yet, but it looks inevitable
until somebody can help us.
“The matches against Cardiff City and Ely Rangers were two of our
big fund-raising events. We were to hold an open day at the same
time as the Bluebirds’ came to play us – and we switched the Ely
game to a Friday so that 100 or more members of the Groundhoppers
could come and watch.
“After all that has happened to Grange Quins over the last few
seasons, I can’t see us carrying on in the Welsh League.
“My personal circumstances have changed and I don’t have the time or
energy to keep fighting.”
Quins earned promotion to the Welsh Premier League for 2005-06, but
struggled badly financially and were relegated immediately.

Pontypridd not
only down but now out completely? |
| |
Things go from bad to worse for
troubled Pontypridd Town.
After losing their main financial
backer prior to last season and almost their entire squad, battled
bravely against relegation, but ended up dropping to division two.
Now it seems that the club may no
longer exist as Pontypridd Town, they are reported to have merged
with Treforest, it is not yet known what the clubs name will be, but
is rumoured to be Treforest, they will play at the White Tips
Staduim in division two of the welsh league.
The squad will be a mixture of
players from both teams, plus any new signings they make pre-season.
A long way from the team two season's ago that had applied for
promotion to the welsh premier league.
All this is good news for Treforest
fans who see their team jump four divisions from the 2nd division of
the South Wales Amateur League.
Good luck to the newly formed club.

Neath beaten on
the field by Swans but coin in at the bank |
| |
Guillem Bauza struck
twice as Swansea City marked the first football game at The Gnoll
with a 5-0 win over hosts Neath Athletic.
Around 7,500 fans turned up for
Wednesday's game at the ground Neath Athletic now share with Neath
Rugby. (A full house for Lido against Crystal Palace, would go down
nicely as well)
Bauza's goals came in the
first-half while Ferrie Bodde struck a penalty after the break.
Trialist Michael van der Heijden
and new signing Stefan Morrison also scored in the second-half.
