Jonah with
Lido until May 10th |
|
The details of Jonah's loan deal are now clear.
Mark is loan with Lido until May 10th (when
his Llanelli contract expires), but
will be reviewed on January 28th, in case Llanelli have any long term injuries
to their strikers. So hopefully he will be at the Marston until at least May
10th.

Afan Lido to
sign top striker Friday |
|
This Friday Afan Lido will be signing a top
striker to help the push for promotion.
The good news is it is current top scorer
Mark Jones. Jonah will have his loan extended from Llanelli and he will be
available for Saturday's big clash with away to Bridgend.
It was always going to be a hard to replace
Jonah's goals (9 in the league) so we haven't replaced him but managed to secure
his services for longer, well done to the backroom staff in resigning him.

Players
reunion confirmed for Sunday before Xmas |
|
On
Sunday, 21st of December 2008, Port Talbot Town will extend an open
invite to all former players for an inaugural reunion at the club. The free
event will include a buffet and a comedian with the doors open from 1.30pm.
“There are many ex-players living in the area who have not been to the club in
a long time,” said Chairman Andrew Edwards. “As well as having the
opportunity to meet up with their former team-mates and enjoy the entertainment
on offer, those supporting the event will also be able to witness the many
changes that have taken place at the ground over the last decade. For this
reason especially I would like to see as many of the older generation of former
players as possible attend as I am sure they would appreciate what the club has
achieved since their playing days”.
The club originally moved to and built the
Victoria Road ground in the late 1940‘s and went onto achieve domestic success
in the Welsh League especially in the 1960‘s. Promotion to the top flight in
2000 became the latest success in the story of the club and the support for this
free event from as many former players as possible will make it the success it
deserves to be.

Not unlucky
13 for Lido Reserves |
|
It was not unlucky 13 for our Reserves
today, as they overcame that tricky number, not only 13 wins on the bounce but
they took the unbeaten record of 4th placed Pontardawe in the process.
Pontardawe suffered their first defeat of
the season as a Matt Beynon goal was enough to give our lads the 3 points.
2nd placed Port Talbot also kept their
100% winning record in tact with a 6-1 away win over Porthcawl.

Lido put Corries
to the sword |
|
The Lido did their bit in their quest to
move up to 3rd in the table, just waiting to see if Cambrian did us a favour in
keeping ENTO to a draw or loss.
It took 34 minutes though for Lido to go
in front, and the goal came from Karl Lewis. We made it 2-0 a minute from half
time with Mark Jones 9th league goal of the season, 2-0 half time.
On 53 minutes the game was made safe and
Carl Payne with his 2nd goal of the season made it 3-0. And within a minute our
goal difference took a major boost when Scott McCourbrey made it 4-0 on 54
minutes.
That was our 4th league win on the bounce
and 5 games unbeaten, and 20 goals scored in our last 4 league games with only 4
against.

Lido face AFC
Porth in Q-Finals |
|
Tonight's
draw for the last 8 in the league cup see's us travel to play AFC Porth of
division 3.
The
tie will be played on January 10th with a 1:30 kick off.
Though
Porth are a division 3 side, they are a very good footballing team as ENTO
Aberaman can testify to, as ENTO were beaten on their own ground against Porth
in the last round. They are currently 3rd in division 3 but only a point off top
spot with a game in hand.
With
the tie being played on January 10th this means our div 1 league game away
against Pontardawe will be postponed and rescheduled for another date.

managed a 3-2 home win over 2nd from bottom Seven Sisters.
Next
up for the Reserves is away against unbeaten Pontardawe, who have won 8 and
drawn 2 of their 10 games.

Lido beat Dinas Powys
4-1 |
|
Lido
had the chance to go 4th today as Pontardawe's game was postponed, and we drew
first blood on 17 minutes when Dinas conceded a penalty and Same Wade put away
the spot kick.
But
managerless Dinas were back in the game 3 minutes before half time to make it
1-1 at half time.
We
were leaving it late to claim all 3 points, but on 78 minutes Mark Jones made it
2-1 to Lido, and Mark made it 10 goals in 3 games as Lido took a 3-1 lead a
minute later.
With
6 minutes left sub Ian Jones put the icing on the cake to make it 4-1 Lido and
up to 4th in the table.
Other
good news from today's results were ENTO Aberaman lost at home 1-0 Bridgend
Town, and Bettws were held to a 0-0 draw by Barry Town.

Cambrian
& Clydach preview |
|
Tuesday night we make a trip up
the valleys to play Cambrian & Clydach for only the 2nd time
in a league game.
And in our only trip to their
King George v new field we came away with a 3-1 win, with a brace
from Steve Davies and the 3rd from Nathan Hodgson.
They had a good first season
in division 1 last season finishing 9th with 49 points in their
debut season, this season they currently lie in 11th spot, but
with games in hand on every team above them. They have 3 games in
hand on Lido and are only 4 points adrift of us.
They have suffered only one
defeat at home so far this season, and that was against Cardiff
Corries back in August, since then they have rattled off 4 wins
and a draw, so it is going to be a tough test for Lido, seeing as
they have beaten both Bettws and Goytre Utd at home, their other
wins were against Pontardawe and Dinas Powys, they have been held
to draws by Croesyceiliog and Ton Pentre.
Our away form is not as good
as their home form, we have 2 wins a draw and 2 defeats, though we
are unbeaten in our last 3 away games with wins over Barry Town
and Croesyceiliog and a draw at Caldicot, those games came after 2
defeats at Goytre and Ton Pentre, both games in which we were
unlucky to not have at least taken a point.
A win Tuesday night will see
us pass Pontardawe in the table again into 4th spot and within a
point of 3rd placed ENTO Aberaman and 2 points behind 2nd placed
Goytre.
Following the Cambrian game we
have 2 home games to finish off 2008, next Saturday we are at home
to Dinas Powys and our final game of 2008 we host Cardiff Corinthians.
We need to put in a winning run together having applied for
promotion to the welsh premier, as the next 7 teams below us in
the table could all mathematically overtake us if they win their
games in hand, although all 7 teams couldn't manage it as some
games are against each other.
Team News to follow later
today, and we could have a few tired members in the squad Tuesday
as our under 19's are playing today away at Llanelli in a table
topper.

Lido through
to next round of the league cup |
|
Kick off was delayed by 30
minutes due to water on the pitch, but once the game started it
didn't take us long to get on the score sheet, we were a goal up
after 2 minutes when Llansawel conceded a penalty which Ianto put
away for 1-0. We
were 2-0 up after 19 minutes when Jonah scored (he can't stop
scoring), but the home side got back into the game and made it 2-1
on 22 minutes. We went 3-1 up on 25 minutes when Jonah got his 2nd
of the game, and 3 minutes later he scored his hat-trick to make
it 4-1, and his 2nd hat-trick in the last 2 games.
The 2nd half wasn't quite as
lively as the first, with just 2 more goals both for Lido and both
scored by Mark (Jonah) Jones, making it a 5 goal hoard for the
young striker and 6-1 final score for the Lido.

Lido
come from behind to continue 100% run |
|
The under 19's continued
their 100% stat to the youth league campaign, but they did it the
hard way.
Haverfordwest were the
visitors to the Marston in the 3rd league game of the season, and
it was the visitors who were looking the likely winners when they
went 2 goals up, but our talented youths came storming back to win
3-2, with goals from Joel Kabia, Carl Payne & Cory Thomas.

Llansawel
match preview |
|
This Saturday we travel the short
distance to take on neighbours Llansawel of division 3 in the
league cup.
Llansawel are only in the welsh
league a few seasons, and this season they are struggling in the
last relegation place in the table, with only 1 win from their 12
league games.
Our last league cup match turned
out a 6-2 victory over fellow 1st division side Bryntirion Ath at
the Marston.
On our current form of just 1
defeat in our last 9 games (and 29 goals scored in those 9 games)
we should be clear favourites to progress to the next round, but
cup games are a different kettle of fish, and Llansawel with be
boosted by the fact they are taking on a division 1 side, and
would love to cause an upset to try and kick start their league
season.
Team news for Saturdays game
should follow after Thursday night's training.
