Ian Jones was unlucky after 11 minutes when his header from a corner beat the
keeper but was headed off the line. We took the lead after 18 minutes when
Carl Payne found Ian Jones wide right, Ian made ground into the area and squared
the ball for Sam Wade to tap in. We should have gone two up after 23
minutes from a repeat move but instead of Ian rolling it square he hit to too
firmly and it cleared all our support and went for a goal kick. We did go two up
after half an hour when Carl Payne won the ball and played a 1-2 with Ian Jones
before finding Scott McCoubrey, he made ground, cut inside and squared to Mark
Jones who netted with a right footed shot. In our next attack the linesman
was injured and play was held up for 8 or 9 minutes. The linesman was
carried off and Dai Rees took over the flag. Mark Jones scored our third on 40
minutes when he received the ball just inside the area and drilled a left footed
shot past the keeper. Ian Jones was unlucky a couple of minutes later when
Ian Turner crossed the ball in, Ian headed goalwards and the keeper managed to
turn it onto the crossbar and away to safety.
Happily the linesman recovered sufficiently to continue in the second half.
Our problem was going to be keeping our concentration levels up and to continue
the level of performance. On 53 minutes Ian Jones had his third chance of
the game when he received the ball from Corey Thomas and tried to go around the
keeper who dived at Ian's feet and held the ball. Scott McCoubrey scored
his third goal in successive games just after the hour when Ian Jones back
heeled the ball into his path and he shot from just inside the area to beat the
keeper to his right. Mark Jones scored his third after 70 minutes when he
controlled a Tomos Wellington free kick at the far post and scored with a right
footed shot. Sam Wade scored his second on 79 minutes when he received a
through ball from Tomos Wellington and rounded the keeper to score. Luke
Borrelli netted the seventh when he picked up a long clearance from Rory
McCreesh to score his first goal at the Marston's Stadium. His only
previous goal was at Maesteg against Bridgend at the end of last season.
