report by Peter Reynolds
Lido kicked off with
the threat of imminent heavy rain and gales and played with the
wind at their backs. However Maesteg were the first to
threaten and leading scorer Robbie Walters scored after 5 minutes.
He was unmarked at the far post and had a free header from 5
yards.
After 12 minutes
Lido mounted and attack down the right and were awarded a free
kick near the corner flag. Steve Parry curled in an in swinging
free kick and Karl Reynolds nodded the equaliser from four yards.
A terrible mix up in
the visitor's keeper and defence on the edge of their area gave
Ian Jones possession, he immediately crossed, Carl Edwards
followed up to place the ball in the empty net.
Play continued to
ebb and flow and after 26 minutes Maesteg were back on level
terms. Paul Jones went down their left, cut inside and shot
from just outside the box.
There seemed no
danger in the shot but Wyn Walters seemed to dive over the ball.
Half time came with the score level and the elements getting
worse.
Surprisingly with
the wind at their backs Maesteg failed to take advantage and we
finished the stronger. We bossed the last seven or eight
minutes forcing a couple of corners, Gary Wager in goal made and
excellent save from an Andrew Pearson shot while Ian Jones headed
over when well placed.
