report by Peter Reynolds
Following the
euphoria of the Neath result this was a major disappointment. We
were unable to play with the same fluency as midweek but despite
this we made and missed several chances.
Ian Jones was
through on goal in the first couple of minutes but shot well wide
of the target. Llwydcoed took the lead after 6 minutes when
following a corner we failed to close down the striker who scored
with ease. Karl Lewis had a chance but with the keeper closing him
down he was unable to shoot, the ball broke to Ian Jones who
netted only for it to be ruled out for offside.
Llwydcoed
increased their lead on 39 minutes when a break down their left
resulted in a terrific cross which was headed home giving Wyn
Walters no chance. Ian Jones reduced the arrears in the 42nd
minute when he fired home from the edge of the area. 2-1 at
half time, if we play like we can then we should overturn
this.
However we failed
to break down their massed defence until the last minute when
following a free kick their keeper flapped and missed it, the ball
hit Phil Holmes and went into the net.
The linesman on
the far side flagged and the goal was disallowed and within a
minute the final whistle went. What was disappointing about that
decision was everyone thought he had flagged for offside, I was
right in line with it and it definitely was ok.
However he
actually flagged for hand ball, exactly how he could tell I don't
know but the linesman from nearby Aberdare saved two points for
lowly Llwydcoed.
