report by Peter Reynolds
Goytre began
nervously and nearly paid the price after 3 minutes when a Liam
McCreesh shot was somehow blocked by the Goytre keeper, the ball
hitting the crossbar before going behind for a corner.
On 7 minutes
Andrew Pearson had a far post header saved, 2 minutes later we
went behind in bizarre fashion. Wyn had the ball in the area
and everyone bar Kevin Bartley and Richard Ryan retreated at least
30 yards from goal. However Wyn's kick out somehow hit
Bartley and fell nicely for him to square the ball to Ryan who
steered the ball into the empty net.
We've conceded
some odd goals this season and this is certainly up there with
them. To our credit we equalised within 4 minutes when Chris Piper
found Andrew Pearson unmarked in front of goal and he made no
mistake from 10 yards. Minutes later in a goalmouth scramble
we had 3 efforts blocked by a massed defence.
Then in a rare
Goytre attack on the stroke of half time Chris Piper lost the ball
25 yards from goal, 3 missed tackles and a close call for offside
later Goytre went 2-1 up.
The second half
lacked the passion of the first and there were fewer chances
created. With 10 minutes to go a ball over the top of the
Goytre defence caught them out, Ian Jones did all the hard work
and with only the keeper to beat blazed the ball over the
crossbar.
Beside the result
the other disappointing feature of the game was we had 8 yellow
cards, mostly for dissent, this is something that the management
team MUST address for next season.
