| Match
report by Peter Reynolds
This was a
rearranged match, the original was abandoned at half time due to
monsoon like rain. As we kicked off last night at Tudor Park,
Maesteg it started drizzling but within minutes the heavens opened
and the weather was reminiscent of the original game.
We took an early
lead when good work down the right by Ian Jones followed by an
excellent cross saw Luke Harrington heading home from ten yards.
Ian continued to look dangerous but he pulled up with a recurrence
of a leg injury and was replaced by Paul Evans.
Karl Miller the
Bettws number 4 received two yellow cards within a minute to take
an early bath, surprisingly
the ref also gave Justin Williams a yellow and restarted the game
with a dropped ball!
We increased our
lead on 51 minutes when Chris Piper netted from six yards, yes he
does score sometimes!!
Chris found himself all alone in front of goal to guide a ring
wing cross into the net with Leon Cosker routed to the spot.
Sadly minutes
later the real Chris Piper was evident when he missed an easier
chance which would have
killed off the game.
What was
surprising considering Bettws need points to secure the Division
One status they didn't put us
under any sustained pressure.
Their only goal
was scored in added on time when Tony Rawlings headed home at the
near post with what was one of their more difficult chances.
They now face a
crunch fixture on Saturday when they host Taffs Well while we have
two matches
next week to end the season. We are at Goytre United on Tuesday
and finish the season where we started, at Briton Ferry where we
play Pontardawe.
