AFAN LIDO 2-2 WEST END

We began quite
brightly and won a free kick wide left for a foul on Tom
Darlington, Carl Payne took the free kick which was turned behind
for a corner. West End then attacked but the first time cross went
over the crossbar. We again attacked and the cross was headed out
to Nathan Hodgson who chested the ball down but his shot was
blocked and cleared. A West End midfielder then got in a shot from
25 yards that Rory McCreesh saved diving to his right. We conceded
a series of free kicks around 25 yards out but each shot was
straight at Rory allowing him to make some easy saves. We were
awarded a free kick wide left which Remi Whitelock took, again it
was turned behind for a corner which was cleared.
On 40 minutes we
took the lead, we were awarded a free kick 35 yards out on the
right touchline, Remi Whitelock, not for the first time this
season scored, placing his shot high over the keeper and into the
far left hand post (as he looked at it). At the start of the
second half West End went straight onto the attack and a forward
headed wide from a right wing cross. They weren't to be denied
however and within three minutes of the half they were level.
Within minutes we were 1-2 down when a ball through the middle
caught us out and the striker just beat Rory to the ball to score.
Damon Thomas played a great ball through to Corey Thomas but he
was unable to control the initial pass but he won the ball and
crossed but it was too close to the keeper and he cut it out.
On 62 minutes we
were level, we were awarded a free kick midway in the West End
half, the ball was knocked forward, the keeper lost the ball under
a challenge and Umberto Brassiello scored against his old side.
Several players were involved in our next attack with some good
passing and movement. We played Luke Borrelli in but he shot over
the bar from just inside the area. Both sides had chances to win
it, Carl Payne shot at the keeper for us and we managed to clear
the ball after a goalmouth scramble when it looked easier for West
End to score. Luke Borrelli almost won it when he received the
ball outside the area with the keeper way out of his goal. Luke
shot on target but the keeper regained his ground to make the
save. Steve Hughes played Remi Whitelock into the box, Remi went
down but it was a good tackle by the defender. Steve from the half
way then played a ball over the central defenders for Luke
Borrelli to run on to, Luke shot from just outside the area but
the ball went over the crossbar.
With time running
out West End had a free kick 35 yards out in a central position
but it was headed wide. With thirty seconds to go they hit the
post with the ball being turned behind for a corner. The corner
was cleared and the final whistle sounded.
