AFAN LIDO 4-1 PORT TALBOT
By Peter Reynolds
Port Talbot kicked off and
attacked down their right, the wide player put in
an excellent cross which was only just ahead of the attacker but then sailed
harmlessly away for a goal kick. Port Talbot looked the busier of the two
sides early on and we made our first inroads on the Port Talbot penalty area
when Remi Whitelock took a free kick 40 yards out and knocked it in to Carl
Payne who with the goal at his mercy failed to get in a clean header and the
ball went through to the keeper. This seemed to kick start us and a minute
later Shaun Morgan fed Luke Borrelli, he made ground and crossed to Corey
Thomas who got in a shot but the keeper made a decent save. On the quarter
hour Shaun Morgan found Corey Thomas he shot first time but hit the post
when well placed. Luke Borrelli crossed in to Umberto Brassiello but his
header went wide of the target, in a repeat a few minutes later Remi
Whitelock headed Luke's cross wide.
Just short of the half hour following
a
free kick Shaun Morgan passed to Remi Whitelock who crossed into Umberto
Brassiello but his shot was well saved by the keeper. We were now well on
top but unable to find the opening goal, Carl Payne was caught offside to
halt a promising move then Remi Whitelock headed over when well placed.
On
35 minutes we scored the goal that our pressure suggested was coming. We
had a free kick on the edge of the box and the ball broke to Corey Thomas
who drilled it home from 10 yards.
Just after half time Damon Thomas played the ball through the defence but
the keeper just cut it out before Umberto Brassiello could get to it.
Umberto then fed Corey Thomas who passed to Damon Thomas, his shot was
blocked but Luke Borrelli crossed it in to Umberto whose header was saved by
the keeper. Corey Thomas was fouled on the edge of the box but Remi
Whitelock's free kick was headed over by Shaun Morgan.
We went two up on
54
minutes, Corey Thomas made ground and passed to Remi Whitelock, his cross
was cut out but he recovered the ball and put in a low cross that evaded the
defence with Luke Borrelli making the important touch from six yards to
score. The Port Talbot keeper was injured just afterwards and after a
delay
of several minutes he was replaced. With a quarter of an hour to go the
replacement keeper made an excellent save from a Shaun Morgan free kick.
Damon Thomas took a left wing corner which was headed back out to him but
instead of crossing he shot from a narrow angle and hit the side netting.
With three minutes to go Port Talbot pulled a goal back when from a right
wing cross their striker shot first time giving Rory McCreesh no chance.
With the probability of at least 5 minutes added on time Port Talbot felt
they could get an equaliser and pushed forward but on 90 minutes Damon
Thomas crossed for Luke Borrelli to drill in his second goal. He then had
the chance to score a hat trick but he failed to make a clean contact when
well placed. In the seventh minute of added time we scored a fourth when
Luke Borrelli made ground and crossed in for Steve Hughes to slide the ball
into the empty net.
