We had an early let off when
Ponty scored from a corner but it was
disallowed for a foul on Rory McCreesh in goal. Our first spell of pressure
saw Luke Borrelli beat his defender and cross from about 12 yards out but
the cross was just too strong for the diving Corey Thomas. Again Luke went
down the right beating his defender with ease but he was then adjudged to
have fouled the supporting defender so Pontardawe escaped with a free kick.
Next it was the turn of Tom Darlington to go down the left, but once again
his cross was too high for Corey.
Just after the quarter hour mark we
should have fallen behind when we lost the ball at the back but the Ponty
striker shot tamely, straight at Rory. Again Luke Borrelli went down the
right and crossed to Corey Thomas but he was unable to control the ball and
a guilt edged chance was lost. However on 21 minutes we took the lead,
Ponty failed to clear their lines and lost the ball 25 yards out to Damon
Thomas who strode forward to slip the ball past the keeper as he came out to
narrow the angle. Again our tackling was poor at the back but a last
ditched challenge gave Ponty a corner which Rory caught and cleared.
Luke
Borrelli had a couple of runs down the right but Ponty managed to cut out
his crosses however on 45 minutes he again made ground down the right and
shot from outside the area giving the keeper no chance to put us two ahead.
We started the second half well and won a corner on 49 minutes, the ball was
cleared to Sean O'Brien who's shot was blocked amid cries for a penalty
which went unheeded. On 51 minutes a Ponty forward was fouled just outside
the area but he got the ball away and another forward shot, Rory made a full
length save tipping the ball over for a corner. The ref decided they hadn't
had an advantage and gave them the free kick. Rory saved the shot but
couldn't hold on to it and a Ponty forward scored from the rebound. Just
after the hour mark there was an almighty scramble in the Ponty goal area
but we just couldn't find the net but we weren't to be outdone and five
minutes later Shaun Morgan rose highest to head home a Luke Borrelli corner.
Within minutes Ponty reduced the arrears when some neat interpassing inside
our area released one of their forwards to score with ease. With twelve
minutes to go we went 4-2 up when Corey Thomas picked up a poor clearance to
score with ease. Two minutes later we made it five when Luke Borrelli found
Jay Evans who had just come on as a sub, he brought the ball down but his
shot was diverted for a corner. Steve Hughes took the corner and scored,
there was still time for Steve Hughes to find Jay Evans but his shot shaved
the right hand post.
