Afan
Lido 1-3 Llanelli
By Peter Reynolds
Former Lido striker Mark Jones played the 90 minutes
despite playing for the Llanelli first team in the FAW Premier Cup semi
final on
Tuesday night.
After 4 minutes the Llanelli left wing back made ground in the penalty area
and invited the challenge from Shaun Morgan. Upon contact he went down to
win the penalty which put us one down. It took us some minutes to respond
but a Luke Borrelli cross was just to strong for Remi Whitelock who found
himself one on one with the keeper.
On 17 minutes we were level, the ball
was worked to Luke Borrelli and his cross was headed in from 8 yards by
Umberto Brassiello. On the half hour Corey Thomas found space but his left
footed shot was just wide. Towards half time Llanelli increased the
pressure on us and there were a couple of last ditch tackles and clearances
which didn't bode well for the second half.
Llanelli attacked from the second half kick off and within two minutes had
regained the lead. We conceded a left sided corner which was swung in to
the goalmouth and was powerfully headed home giving Rory McCreesh no chance.
On 50 minutes another Llanelli attack was cleared following some good
defensive work by Nathan Hodgson, we went down and won a corner which Remi
Whitelock took. Under pressure their keeper did well to punch the ball
clear. On the hour Rory McCreesh kept us in the game with a fine full
length save to his left turning the ball away for a corner. We were
awarded
a free kick by the corner flag, Remi crossed and Llanelli eventually cleared
after we'd put in a couple of shots which were blocked by the defence.
Into
the last ten minutes and we had a free kick 25 yards out, again it was
cleared for a corner in what was the story of the night for us, their
defence cleared under pressure from us. With two minutes to go Llanelli
ensured they had the three points when the strikers pounced on an akward
bouncing ball and knocked it past Rory to seal the points.
