WELSH LEAGUE U19

  AFAN LIDO 1-1 CWMAMAN INSTITUTE

By Peter Reynolds

Against probably the poorest side we've met this year we again failed to take advantage and paid dearly for our sloppy play. For the second home match running we had a referee who liked his whistle and with six bookings to us and a sending off his pen must have run out of ink! At least we started on the attack when Umberto Brassiello went down the right got to the corner flag and crossed a defender cleared to Dale Lambrick who shot first time from 25 yards over the bar.

After 10 minutes Corey Thomas cut out a clearance and played it to Umberto who won a corner. Remi Whitelock took the corner to Damon Thomas whose cross was just too long with Umberto closing in on goal. Just after the quarter hour another corner from Remi went across the face of goal with no-one getting a touch.

Twenty minutes in and the Cwmaman keeper flapped at a cross but had time to recover and clear with no-one challenging him. Three minutes later the inevitable happened, a long ball over the top of our defence found their lone striker who shot past Rory McCreesh in goal. At least our response was immediate, Corey Thomas went down the right but his cross was too long, Remi Whitelock picked it up and crossed for Umberto Brassiello to leap and score with a fine header. Sam Nolan was then booked for kicking the ball away but such was the refs inconsistency that when they did it minutes later he ignored it.

On the half hour a long kick from Rory McCreesh was picked up by Umberto who made ground down the right and crossed for Corey Thomas but he headed over the bar from 8 yards. In the final 5 minutes of the half the ref managed to book Remi Whitelock, Stave Hughes and Luke Borrelli. There's not a lot to say about the second half, we failed to spread the ball wide, stretch the defence and get crosses in. In the first few minutes of the half we had free kicks around the edge of the box but Remi Whitelock shot over the bar and Damon Thomas put his wide.

With just over 10 minutes to go Luke Borrelli shot and at least worked the keeper who turned his shot behind for a corner. Just for good measure in the last few minutes Remi Whitelock was sent off for a second yellow card and both Shaun Morgan and Umberto Brassiello were booked after the ref gave a free kick against us when we were in a good attacking position.
