WELSH LEAGUE U19

  AFAN LIDO 3-0 BRYNTIRION ATHLETIC

By Peter Reynolds

We played with a strong wing and heavy rain at our backs in the first half and turned around three goals up. In the second half we defended well with Rory McCreesh having an easier time than his counterpart in the visitor's goal.

In the early minutes we had a free kick wide right that flew across the goal without anyone getting a touch but we took the lead on twenty minutes when Remi Whitelock took a free kick from almost on the touchline forty yards out. Remi's free kick sailed into the net giving the keeper no chance, however it gave an indication of the strength of the wind and what was ahead for our lads in the second half.

Less than 90 seconds later we were two up when Carl Payne battled with several defenders on the edge of their area, won the ball and slotted it past the keeper.  Bryntirion won a free kick just outside our area after 25 minutes and they played the ball left, their winger was completely unmarked and he took the ball into the box and crossed hard and low.  It beat everyone but Josh Cockings was on hand the clear the ball over the crossbar for an unproductive corner.

That was an important save as just after the half hour a ball into the box was fumbled by the keeper under pressure from Luke Borrelli and Luke headed home the loose ball to give us a 3-0 lead ahead of half time.

Bryntirion had an free kick early in the second half on the edge of our box, the ball was knocked behind for a corner which we cleared. Just after the hour mark, Remi Whitelock hit the post with a free kick with the rebound hitting the onrushing Lido players and going over the bar for a goal kick.

Despite the wind advantage Bryntirion failed to mount any serious attacks so we held out without too much difficulty.

On Sunday we are at West End in the League Cup.
