Afan Lido 1-2 Bryntirion Ath

Bryntirion came from behind to win this match and in doing so won the league title. On the day they deserved it and looked the best reserve side in the division by a mile. Early on we had a chance to take the lead but Umberto Brassiello headed over from the penalty spot following a Matthew Jones corner. We did take the lead on 13 minutes when Shaun Best made ground and got into the penalty area only to be fouled. Matthew Beynon stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way. Shaun Best was again fouled this time just outside the area but any chance of a score was lost because Adam Beynon took a quick free kick and hit the wall.

As the half progressed Bryntirion started to get on top and it was no surprise when they equalised on 29 minutes. They broke down the right and as Gareth Couch closed down the attacker he lifted it over him and into the net. They could have gone ahead almost immediately when from another right wing break the striker headed the ball back across goal instead of hitting the target. Bryntirion took the lead on 40 minutes following a corner, we headed the corner out of the box but straight to one of their players who volleyed the ball home giving Gareth Couch no chance. In added on time at the end of the first half Shaun Best went down the right and crossed to Umberto Brassiello, he shot but the keeper made a good save. We had a free kick on 53 minutes Matthew Jones played it into the box but it was headed clear.

From another free kick Gareth Couch played it forward Nathan Hodgson picked up the cleared ball but shot wide. Somehow Bryntirion failed to extend their lead on the hour, a corner went right across our goal with no-one getting a touch. With 10 minutes to go Bryntirion were awarded a free kick just outside the box, Gareth Couch kept us in the game with two fine saves. We then pressed forward and both Shaun Best and Umberto Brassiello had a couple of shots which went just wide. Gareth Couch again distinguished himself when with two minutes to go he saved a penalty but despite this we were unable to level the scores.
