Other Lido results

RESERVES
The reserves has a fruitful trip to Cardiff when they were playing against Cardiff Corinthians, and they had little trouble in claiming all 3 points with a 4-1 win. Our scorers were Adam Beynon, Aaron Keefe, Chris Latham and Matthew Jones. With the withdrawal of Porthcawl we have been stripped of two wins and 15 goals, the scorers table has been updated to reflect that.

UNDER 13'S
The Under 13's got back to winning ways today with a comprehensive win over neighbours Corus.

The game ended in a 6-0 win for the Lido with goals from Sean Griffiths, Sam O'Connor, Travis Monks, Ben Thomas and Jack Underwood (2)

Tomorrow the lads are back in a action as they take on Garden Village in the Federation Cup.

Our under 13's didn't fair to well against and older. bigger and and more powerful set of boys and they were beaten 10-2 by Garden Village.

UNDER 12'S
It was a good weekend for Phil's lads, they recorded two 3-2 victories, on Saturday they beat Porthcawl BGC 3-2. and Sunday they also won 3-2 against Penygraig in the Fed cup.

UNDER 19'S
Our under 19's were in cup action Sunday when they had a repeat of last seasons opponents, Cardiff Celts. Last season he lads were walloped 7-0, but this seasons we only went out 2-1 in extra time, Damon Thomas scored Lido's goal.

Lido bounce back with win over Ponty

Afan Lido bounced back from a mid week hammering to record a first league home win over nearby Pontardawe.

We took the lead in the 7th minute with Shaun Best's first league goal of the season.

Ponty spoiled the script by equalising mid way through the first half, and they could have gone in 2-1 going into the break, but new keeper Leon Cosker saved a spot kick in 3 minutes into injury time to keep it at 1-1 at half time.

The winner came on the hour mark with Ianto getting his first league goal of the season to give us a 2-1 lead and we went on to claim all 3 points, in front of our lowest league crowd of the season of just 75.

This was our first league home win against Ponty and our first goals scored against them.

Lido looking to break Ponty duck

The Lido's playing record against Pontardawe does not make good reading for the Lido faithful.

Our record against them at home consists of two home defeats and we have failed to score against them in both games. In fact in the four league games the clubs have played we haven't managed a win, the two away games both resulted in draws, so they seem to be a bit of a bogey team four us, can tomorrow put an end to that trend, turn up at the Marston and find out.

Lido squad for the Pontardawe game

The squad line up for the home game Saturday is:

Leon Cosker - Rory McCreesh - Steve Parry - Karl Lewis - Dan McGrath - Dan Williams - Steven Cox
Kieran Howells - Mike Waters - Steve Davis - Damon Thomas - Ian Jones - Andy Pearson - Greg Hurley
Shaun Best - Corey Thomas.

A welcome return to the squad for Karl Lewis who returns from a foot injury and old timer Greg Hurley is another welcome name back in the squad to face Pontardawe this Saturday, Ponty will be a tougher test than their league position suggests as they have strengthened their squad considerably since the transfer window opened a few weeks ago, and we will be looking to put our 4-1 defeat against Aberaman well behind us, so it should make for a cracking game.

Aberaman go goal crazy in 2nd half rout

Tonight's match got off to a good start for the Lido, we took the lead in the 11th minute and for the 2nd game in a row a debutant scored. Dan McGrath grabbed his first goal for the club.

The first half ended with Lido 1-0 up, Aber were level within 5 minutes of the re-start, and they took the lead in the 62nd minute.

Worse was to follow and 2-1 became 3-1, and then 4-1.

And that was how the game ended with the visitors recording a comprehensive win, and Aber recorded their 4th win on the trot and they are now unbeaten in 7 games.

Tonight's defeat killed any realistic hope the team had of finishing in a promotion position come the end of the season.

Team news for the Aberaman game

Hopefully tomorrow nights game at home to ENTO Aberaman will go ahead, reports are that there is a 50/50 chance the pitch will be playable if the rain holds off until now and then.

The squad for the ENTO game is the same as for last Saturdays, and new signing Dan McGrath could make his club debut. Injury news, Leon Cosker looks to have benefited by the weekend lay off and should be fit for the game but Karl Lewis is still out with a foot injury.

The squad is:

Leon Cosker - Rory McCreesh - Steve Parry - Dan Williams - Steve Cox - Damon Thomas - Daniel McGrath - Kieran Howells - Carl Edwards - Craig Martin - Steve Davies - Michael Waters - Ian Jones - Shaun Best - Andy Pearson

Gaffer looking to sign another Goytre player

Lido manager Craig Duggan is making good use of the January transfer window, with 5 players signed, he has put 7 day notice on Ian Turner from his former club Goytre Utd.

Talks are due as Friday was the 7th day of notice, Turner one of the stars of the Goytre side is a wide player and his loss to our neighbours along with other key players Michael Waters who has joined us and Luke Bowen signed by Haverfordwest, would be a big blow to the village side.

Team news ahead of the Garw game

Saturday we take on bottom club Garw. Earlier in the season we beat them at the Marston 11-0. There should be no repeat of a win by that scoreline Saturday, as Garw have strengthened their squad and have even recorded a win against Pontardawe, and had a 0-0 draw with Cwmbran.

In the squad for Saturday's game for the first time is Daniel McGrath, Dan is a recent signing from Briton Ferry and goes straight into the squad.

Lido hound the Bulldogs

It was our first game in the league since the 15th of December, and it turned out to be a memorable one.

Ton Pentre in 2nd place in the league and with only one defeat in the league, came a cropper at the Marston.

We took the lead on 38 minutes with a goal from new signing Michael Waters scoring on his league debut for Lido.

We doubled our lead on 48 minutes with another goal from a debut player, Defender Steven Cox making it 2-0.

That's how the game finished as Ton Pentre suffered first away defeat of the season. In front of 250 at the Marston.

More to follow.

Lido legend joins Port Talbot

Evo will be used as cover for the Port Talbot Town captain Matthew Rees while he is recuperating from a operation.

We all wish Evo the best during his time with Port Talbot.

Another new signing for Afan Lido

Another new signing for Afan Lido

Afan Lido manager Craig Duggan has been busy in the transfer market since the window opened and has added another new face to the club.

Ton Pentre goalkeeper Leon Cosker has signed from the Ynys Park club, Leon was at Bettws last season and is now the 3rd signing for the manager along with Michael Waters and Ian Jones, and it looks like more new faces could be arriving before the transfer window ends.

Lido draw with Swansea Youth

We took on Swansea youth today at the Marston, and went into the break 2-1 up thanks to a brace from Ianto his 3rd in his 2nd game since his return.

The 2nd half saw the Dynamic Duo make several changes to the team, and it was only then Swansea took a 3-2 lead.

Damon Thomas squared things when he scored following a Lido corner, FINAL SCORE 3-3

Also today our Reserves lost 1-0 away to Cambrian - no details from that match yet.

Ianto scores on his return

Two second half goals from Shaun Best and Ian Jones gave us a 2-0 win over Briton Ferry.

Craig and Dai gave numerous players a run out in our first game since December 8th. Steve Parry made his first appearance since Caldicot back in October and Michael Waters had his first run out.

The first goal was made by Steve Davies who played a great ball inside the Ferry defender for Corey Thomas to run on to. Corey played a first time cross that Shaun Best hit first time across the keeper.

The second was a free kick which Michael Waters whipped in at pace Ianto headed in from 6 yards.

Ianto's back at the Lido

Former Lido favourite and top scorer Ian (Ianto) Jones has re-signed for Afan Lido.

Ianto had left for Haverfordwest during the summer, and made 6 first team appearances and 3 as sub, scoring twice for the west Wales club.

But while he was out injured, young Nick Woodrow cemented a first team place by scoring 7 goals in quick succession.

Ianto is back at Lido in his quest for first team football, and will no doubt be glad to reduce his travelling.

Talking to Ianto, he told me he was looking forward to re-joining the club and getting back to doing what he does best, that's scoring goals by the bucketful, he said he was a little short of match practice having not featured in the Haverfordwest side recently, but would soon be match fit and ready to get 2008 off to a flying start.
