Injury to Ely youngster mars U18 game

Last night the under 18's hosted Ely Rangers at the Marston, in a game that was played in wet and windy conditions, the game ended all square in a 2-2 draw.

Lido fielded 5 under 16 players and Ely had 4 under 16's in their side, the young talent on show last night holds a bright future for both clubs.

But the game will be remembered for the injury to young Ely player Richard Greaves. The injury happened in a challenge with Damon late in the second half, a total accident, but shows how easy injuries can occur (a hairline fracture on one side of the ankle and a break on the other side). He was taken to hospital last night by his parents, and the Ely Manager Simon Azpopardi contacted the club regarding his injuries.

Afan Lido Football Club wishes him a speedy recovery from his injuries and hopes that he is back playing as quickly as possible.

The only goal of te game so far came from Ianto on the half hour, it could have been 2-0, but Ianto was guilty of missing a penalty in the 44th minute.

More updates as they come through fro Alan.

First blood of the 2nd Half goes to the Lido to make it 2-0, Kieron Howells scores in the 67 minute, to give us a bit of breathing space.

Caldicot get a goal back to make it 2-1, their goal came from a gift from defender Steve Parry. So tense finish on the card at the Marston.

L Cosker - R McCreesh - J Williams - C Thomas - S Best - S Parry - S Morgan - D Thomas - Ianto - D Williams - D McGrath - K Howells - S Davies - S Cox - M Waters.

Caldicot are enjoying their first season back in the top division, and look to have secured their status for next season, they lie comfortably in 12th place, though they can thank their home form for their 12th place, on their travels they have only secured 4 points and have suffered 8 defeats in their 10 games.

All square against the Romans

The game started positive for the Lido as we took the lead in the 26th minute with a goal from Mike Waters, but Caerleon spoilt the script and deprived us of going joint 4th in the table and taking our winning run to 5 games when they equalised on the hour, neither side could find the winning goal and both sides had to settle for a point. Despite the draw we are still unbeaten in the last 5 games.

The squad for tonight's game was.

L Cosker - J Williams - D Williams - S Cox - S Morgan - D McGrath - S Parry - K Lewis - M Waters - K Howells - D Thomas - S Best - C Thomas - N Hodgson - Ianto.

Report to follow tomorrow.

Fixture changes for Lido teams

Lido's league game away to Goytre scheduled for March 14th has been postponed. Goytre are playing their Nathaniel cup semi final against Caerleon at Station Road on Wednesday the 12th, and they do not want any fixture on the Friday or Saturday, the league have granted them their request, so we have to re-arrange this fixture.

The Under 19's have a game away to Pontardawe on Sunday 24th with a 2pm kick off.

The under 18's home game against Ely Rangers has been put back a day and will now be played on Monday 25th with a 7:30 kick off.

As everyone knows by now the reserves home fixture against Goytre last Saturday was called off, Goytre arrived with just six players, so needless to say the game couldn't take place, Goytre we undoubtedly be deducted three points for failing to fulfil the fixture.

The under 18's made a swift exit from the cup when they were well beaten away to Lisvane eventually going down 7-3.

Lido make hard work of 3 points against 10 man Croesy

Lido's visit to Cwmbran proved fruitful and we secured all 3 points, though Croesy proved stubborn opponents.

After a goalless 35 minutes, the game changed when Croesy were reduced to 10 men, but we failed to take advantage of the extra man until the 68th minute when Dan McGrath scored the games only goal.

Five minutes from the end Croesy were reduced to nine men, when their player received his 2nd yellow of the game.

We leap frog Newport YMCA to 7th (only because haven't seen their result yet;)

Report on the game tomorrow.

Lido pick up 3 points and move up to 7th

We had to wait 35 minutes for the first goal, and young Corey Thomas scored his third senior goal of the season to give us the lead.

Four minutes later we doubled our lead with a goal from Kieran Howells to make it 2-0 going into the half time break.

No goals further goals in the 2nd half but Taffs Well missed a chance to get into the game, when they missed from the spot kick just after the hour.

Lido grab three second half goals to claim victory

It took a long time to finally get on the scoresheet against relegation threatened Pontypridd today, we had to wait until the 51 minute to take the lead.

The goal came from Mike Waters, 15 minutes later Ianto added a second to make the game more secure, Mike Waters added a third with his second goal of the game on 78 minutes to wrap up the points.

Today's win will take us up to 8th (if Cwmbran fail to take a point against leaders Goytre) and with games in hand over all teams above us, we should move up a few more places.
