Pontypridd Town League Prog's edition

Good evening and welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Pontypridd Town Football Club to the Marston’s Stadium for this evening’s MacWhirter Welsh League Division One match.

I’d also like to welcome the three officials, Jonathan Twigg in the middle with John Lewis and Alan Boswell assisting.  We hope you have a good game and we’ll see you in the club afterwards.

Our opponents are currently at the wrong end of the table but recent performances show a big improvement in their matches.  Whereas at the start of the season they were getting beaten heavily the trend has changed dramatically, now if they are losing then it is normally by the odd goal.

Our last game saw us gaining a home draw against Cwmbran.  On a very wet and windy day the weather proved to be a great leveller with a strong wind making it a game of two halves.  We took the lead through Steve Cox but once again chances went begging to further increase our advantage.  We paid the ultimate price in the 82nd minute when our opponents equalised.  Nevertheless it extends our unbeaten run to 9 games with 7 victories and 2 draws.

3 points tonight would take us into second position with the results last Saturday going our way.  To be in this position with 12 games to go is fantastic and the players have put in a massive amount of hard work to turn draws into wins.  These players have to realise that Welsh Premier football could be just around the corner.  I'm sure there will still be some twists and turns from now until the end of season but at least the players have given themselves a fighting chance.  All they need to do now is keep believing in themselves and to continue the good work from previous weeks.

Steve Parry is unavailable tonight so Karl Roberts is added to the squad for what will surely be a very important and exiting week in the life of Afan Lido Football Club.  Tonight's game and Friday's home game against Clydach & Cambrian will have a huge factor on the remainder of the season and two positive results could put us even deeper in the promotion mix

Enjoy the game
