Garw
Prog's edition
Good
evening and welcome to the players and officials of Garw Football
Club for our 2nd home game of the season. A welcome
also goes to tonight’s three officials.
We
travelled northwards to Ton Pentre last Saturday in which we came
away with one point. Before
the game as Ton were top of the table we would’ve settled
for a point but on reflection it was two
points dropped. However I don’t think many sides will come
away from Ton with a point especially playing a big chunk of the
game against 12 oh sorry I mean 11 men.
We
had an ideal start where Steve
Parry placed a quality corner into the danger area in which it
went straight in as
Ton’s defence failed to deal with it 0-1.
We
couldn’t get the important second goal and it came back to haunt
us. Steve Parry and Steve Davies
caused their wide men all sorts of problems in the first half but
we couldn’t turn our
possession into goals. Andrew
Pearson – who
incidentally has been appointed Team Captain for season 2007/08
– and Mark Jones were
so committed they created
havoc in the Ton’s defence.
Our
defenders in the shape of Carl
Evans, Luke Harrington, Craig Martin and Dan
Williams – who is out
for 6 weeks with a fractured metatarsal – were dominant in
all departments. We moved the ball well and it was a pleasure to
watch.
However,
with us not taking our
chances and for once didn’t
clear our lines effectively Ton broke on and took their chance
well 1-1.
Second
half we got off to a dreadful
start where Luke Harrington allegedly elbowed their player in
which it looked as though he ran into Luke’s elbow. You could
see he didn’t use it with any intent. Against 11 men it was
always going to be difficult but Wyn Walters made some superb saves to prevent Ton going ahead. Mark
Jones upfront still caused their back 3 all sorts
of problems and at one stage had three defenders around him
and still managed to create a chance. We had two
penalty appeals turned down in which Mark created those
himself.
Some
news on the players front is that because of our success last
year we always felt that WPL teams would show an interest in our
players. We never expected it to be so early as now. Mark
Jones had a trial for Llanelli FC on Tuesday and Steve
Davies also had a trial with Bristol City. We think that
because WPL teams know
our current financial position that they can dangle a bigger
carrot in front of our players, however we do not see ourselves as
a feeder club to WPL teams. Hopefully our
position will change otherwise we could see most of our better
players going onto pastures
new.
Garw
haven’t had the ideal preparation going into a promotion season
as their then manager Chris Wells departed to allegedly take a
teaching post in Granada. However, he only got as far as
Llangeinor and decided to play for those instead. They had to
quickly form a completely new side in a matter of days. I’m sure
that when they start to gel together and start getting results
confidence will be on the rise and they will start climbing the
table. We wish Garw
the very best of the season.
See
you at the far post
