Caerleon
Prog's edition
Good
afternoon and welcome to the players and officials of Caerleon
Football Club for our second home game of the season. A warm
welcome also got out to the three officials for today's game.
Last
week we entertained Bridgend Town for our first home game in which
we drew 2-2. After we analysed our performance over the weekend we
came to the conclusion that we were happy with our performance
especially on the front foot. Considering Mark Jones and Andrew Pearson
had never played together their link up play with each other was
good. Mark Jones got both goals and the first one was a text book
move in which Carl Edwards supplied a pin point cross for Mark
Jones to glance a header passed their GK. His second was supplied
by Steve Davies at the far post. It was disappointing to draw
after leading twice in the game. We
considered that from last season we had over seven changes and
realise that these players need time to understand each others
games.
On
the night were some very good individual performances in the shape
of young Damon Thomas who with his tough tackling no-nonsense
approach gained a lot of admirers after the game. Steve Davies was
another youngster who is an exciting new prospect for us and is
the type of player who gets bums off seats when in possession in
the right areas. As Andrew Pearson had only returned from his
holidays 48 hours before it was pleasing that he got 80mins under
his belt.
We
also felt that a few refereeing decisions cost us on the night as
some of the Free Kicks being awarded were we felt a little
dubious.
On
Tuesday we played against Red Dragon/ Baglan at home and won 4-1.
it wasn't a great performance but players have to realise that
there is competition for places in all areas of the team and even
in trial games those who are selected must perform to their
potential as it could cost them a place in the team.
Again
Andrew and Mark linked well and it was roles reverse as Mark
supplied Andrew with some quality balls in which Andrew replied
with not only one goal but a deserved hat-trick. In two games our
forwards have scored 5 goals between them.
I
hope that’s not going to be a kiss of death for them.
Caerleon
have recruited some players over the close season and have had
some decent results in their warm up games. We know it'll be a
physical challenge for our players in which they should enjoy.
See
you at the Far Post.
