Dinas Powys League Prog's edition

Good evening and welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Dinas Powys Football Club to the Marston’s Stadium for this evening’s MacWhirter Welsh League Division One match.

I’d also like to welcome the three officials, Nigel Jones in the middle with Darren Ould and Rhys Burgess assisting.  We hope you have a good game and we’ll see you in the club afterwards.

Our opponents currently occupy third position and manager Mark Jones has assembled a very experienced team who have every chance of winning the league.  I'm sure our last minute winner at Dinas Powys is still fresh in their memories therefore I anticipate another extremely tight contest.

Our last match against Cambrian & Clydach ended in a disappointing 0-0 stalemate.  Once again chances went begging and unless we start scoring goals any aspirations the club has of gaining promotion will disappear.  Three points were at our mercy but not being able to convert four clear chances cost us two points.  On saying that we had a goal disallowed in the first half and hit the woodwork twice in the second and after 50 minutes we had used our 3 substitutes and had a player sent off with 10 minutes remaining.  I thought the referee could have been a lot stronger and less whistle happy even though I thought he had a poor game on the night we only had ourselves to blame for not winning the game.

Tonight Karl Roberts sits out a one game suspension, Shaun Best is unavailable through work commitments and Dan McGrath is still struggling with his hamstring injury.  Midfielder Kieran Howells will undergo a fitness test after picking up a leg injury in our last match and winger Steve Davies should have made a recovery after going off 5 minutes into the Cambrian & Clydach match.

We embark on a very busy April with some difficult matches starting this evening but if we want to achieve anything this season we must stay focussed and keep our discipline.  We are unbeaten in 11 matches and have given ourselves a great opportunity to push for one of the top two places therefore it is only ourselves who can throw the opportunity away.  I'm sure the players will give it their best shot and with plenty of encouragement around the ground we may be in for a nail biting finish.

Enjoy the game

Craig
