Cwmbran Town League Prog's edition

I’d like to welcome the officials, players and supporters of Cwmbran Town to the Marston’s Stadium for this afternoon’s MacWhirter Welsh League Division One match.

I'd like to welcome today’s match officials, they are Geoff Martin, Mark Davies and Adrian Hartley we’ll see you in the club afterwards.

I'd also like to welcome today's match sponsors Taylors & Son a local engineering company.  Our opponents are currently in a mid table position after being in the top 6 for most of the season.  They had an excellent home win last Saturday against Bryntirion and will be looking to carry that form over to today.

Last Tuesday evening saw us elevate up to 3rd place thanks to a 1-0 home win against Newport YMCA.  An early Steve Cox goal set the tone for the evening but for some woeful finishing the winning margin could have been a lot bigger. Ian Jones, Steve Cox and Shaun Best all wasted good chances to put the game well beyond our opponents reach.  Even though we missed chances what was encouraging was the number of chances we created and on another day I'm sure Ianto and others will take them.

Young centre half Shaun Morgan can be proud of his performance, with Daniel Williams sweeping behind him superbly.  Steve Davis on the right hand side of midfield also had his best game for a while in a red shirt.  We controlled the game for long periods and I felt the only way they would score was from a set piece.  We dealt with their aerial threat quite easily and as a team we have conceded 3 goals in the last 8 games.  We are on a marvellous run at the moment and I cannot praise the players enough for their effort and commitment.  With 13 league games left to play we currently stand in third position, therefore there is everything to play for.

Dan Williams will have a late fitness test on his ankle, while Dan McGrath still remains sidelined with a damaged hamstring.  Apart from those two we have a fit squad to pick from with every player chomping at the bit for a piece of the action.  If we can achieve another three points today it will enable us to have ten days to prepare before our next league game against Pontypridd Town.

Enjoy the game
