Bryntirion
Ath League Prog's edition
Good
evening and welcome to the officials, players and supporters of
Bryntirion Athletic Football Club to the Marston’s Stadium for
this evening’s final home MacWhirter Welsh League Division One
match of the season.
I’d
also like to welcome the three officials, Eddie King in the middle
with Paul Fisher and Ian Bird assisting and also Mato Industries who
are sponsoring the game. We hope you enjoy the game and we’ll see
you in the club afterwards.
Our
opponents currently occupy 6th position and manager Francis Ford has
assembled a very useful team this season including Robbie Walters
the prolific goalscorer who once again has scored many goals this
season.
Since
our last home game we have played 5 games on the road with only 1
defeat against Caerleon. Wins at Goytre, Bryntirion, Pontardawe and
Garw have kept us in the hunt for promotion but unfortunately our
rivals all seem to be winning as well.
Both
Karl Lewis and Ian Jones haven't played in the last 5 matches whilst
Steve Parry hasn't played in the last 3. The youth team players who
have come in have done the club proud averaging 5 youth players
starting in the last 5 matches. Corey Thomas, Damon Thomas, Rory
McCreesh, Luke Borrelli, Steve Davies, Shaun Morgan, Carl Payne,
Steve Hughes and Nathan Hodgson have all played their part recently
in keeping the club amongst the leading pack. I don’t think there
would be another Welsh League club that could put so much faith in
their youth players yet still keep on winning and keep the season
alive.
Dan
McGrath played his first game in twelve matches against Garw and
came through unscathed. We
also welcome back Steve Davies, Shaun Morgan and Karl Roberts from
our last match whilst Steve Cox will undergo a late fitness test
after aggravating his hamstring.
Full
credit must be given to our young team this season with a home win
against Ton Pentre and away victories at Goytre, Bryntirion &
Dinas Powys. Whilst it is still mathematically possible to gain
promotion, realistically we will be playing Welsh League football
again next season and on behalf of Dai Rees and myself I would like
to take this opportunity being our last home match to thank
Sean McCreesh, Mark Robinson and other hard working people at the
club and all the players for their continued support since October,
Enjoy
the game
Craig
