At half time there was no doubting the happier manager but whatever David Morgan
said to his side certainly paid dividends in the second half. It took Aberaman
38 minutes to have their first shot on goal and even that was wide but they
controlled the second half and we failed to respond. We attacked in the first
minute when Dan Williams found Ian Jones he made ground down the right but
despite him sending over a great cross we had no-one up to take advantage.
Michael Waters and Ian Jones combined well a minute later, Ian back heeling the
ball into Michael's path but unfortunately he was crowded out. Aberaman had a
corner after 4 minutes, Dan Williams headed out to Steve Parry he played a cross
field ball to Ian Jones who made ground cut in and shot over the bar. Aberaman
then had a couple of free kicks and won a corner which we cleared up to Steve
Davies but Steve was caught offside 5 yards in the Aberaman half.
We took the lead on 9 minutes
Steve Parry fed Michael Waters down the left side, Michael crossed the ball into
the area Andrew Pearson dummied and left the ball which was met by debutant Dan
McGrath whose right footed shot beat the keeper. 5 minutes later Steve Davies
cut out a midfield pass and found Michael Waters with a cross field pass Michael
first time shot went just wide. We continued to take the game to Aberaman and
another chance was missed when Steve Parry beat a couple of players and fed
Kieran Howells whose shot from just outside the area went just wide of the
post. After 26 minutes Michael Waters held the ball and played it back to Steve
Parry, Steve crossed into the box for Ian Jones who went down but neither the
ref or linesman were impressed enough to give us a penalty. Andrew Pearson took
a throw six yards from the corner flag , Dan McGrath helped it on to Kieran
Howells whose left foot shot was straight at the keeper. Andrew then won the
ball on the right, beat the defender and chipped the keeper from just outside
the area, sadly for us it drifted just over the bar. On the half hour we had a
free kick 30 yards out on the left touchline, the ball was played to Andrew
Pearson who turned and shot over the bar from 15 yards. Two minutes later Steve
Davies again cut out a midfield pass and fed Michael Waters he played it in to
Andrew Pearson his header sailed over the bar from 12 yards. All this pressure,
a second goal would in all probability have killed off Aberaman but we weren't
able to find the net. With minutes to go to half time it looked as though
Aberaman might be getting into the game and just before the interval Chris
Summers had his first sniff of goal putting the chance over the bar.
Aberaman came out for the
second half in determined mood earning a corner in the opening seconds. Disaster
struck for us on 50 minutes when following another corner they equalised. There
seemed little danger when Steve Parry was carrying the ball out of the area but
he lost his footing they picked up the ball, crossed to the far post where Ryan
Barry (4) scored. We needed to up our game but the free flowing football of the
first half had disappeared, we were allowing the Aberaman players acres of room
and time and it was no surprise when Chris Summers scored his first to give the
visitors the lead. Craig Martin failed to cut out a through ball which Summers
picked up and shot across Leon Cosker just inside the far post. We did respond
to the second goal and almost carved out an equaliser within a minute. We
attacked down the right and the ball was played to Dan McGrath whose first time
shot was tipped over for a corner at full stretch by the keeper. We went 3-1
down on 68 minutes when Chris Summers netted his second, from my position he
looked offside but the linesman ignored our appeals and the goal stood. We had
replaced Craig Martin with Shaun Best after the second goal but in an effort to
get back into the game we left gaps at the back which were cruelly exploited. To
top it all Chris Summers netted his third and Aberaman's fourth after 77 minutes
and it was game over.
