Our failure to score at home cost us again and
we lost to a very
professional performance by Dinas Powys who now move up into second place.
The first half was littered with free kicks to us yet the only booking
incurred by the visitors was right on time for time wasting by the keeper.
We had an early free kick for a foul on Steve Cox but from a favourable
position Michael Waters hit the wall. The ball rebounded to Kieran Howells
but his shot from the edge of the area was blocked and the ball was cleared.
Dinas Powys attacked and Nana Baah went down in the area rather easily when
Shaun Morgan tackled him, the ref was well placed to make the correct
decision.
On 5 minutes we were awarded a free kick which Michael Waters
took quickly, it hit a defender two yards away but the ref waved play on
indicating that it was our choice to take it quickly. We then had a free
kick wide right which Dan Williams knocked into the area they cleared the
ball and broke quickly and Shelton Payne beat Leon Cosker but Steve Davies
got back to clear off the line.
On 10 minutes we had yet another free kick
10 yards in our half, the ball was knocked forward and we had a second for a
foul on Karl Lewis 35 yards out. Steve Davies put in an excellent cross to
Steve Cox whose header from 12 yards went just wide of the post. Three
minutes later we again had a free kick in our half which Leon Cosker knocked
into the area for Ian Jones to head on only for the keeper to turn the ball
over the bar for a corner.
On 21 minutes a further free kick from the
right
touchline by Michael Waters found Karl Lewis but his header lacked power and
was easy for the keeper. Corey Thomas lost possession just inside our half
and they attacked at pace but the final shot went just wide. Kieran
Howells
went down after a clearance hit him full in the face but he continued after
treatment. We weren't making much impression on a solid defence until the
41st minute when following a throw in Kieran Howells headed the ball into
the path of Steve Cox whose first time shot went just over the bar.
There were concerns over Kieran during the interval but he started the
second half although he was replaced by Luke Borrelli on 53 minutes. It
was
Luke's first appearance having been a non playing sub a few times before.
We went behind on 49 minutes, the game was halted as Ian Jones was injured,
to restarted the ref dropped the ball for Shaun Morgan to give back to the
opposition. He did so, but they managed to keep the ball in play and
played
the ball into the box, despite everyone telling the defence to stand and not
dive in Steve Parry obviously didn't hear as he tried to tackle and made
contact to give away a penalty from which they scored.
Dinas were now
playing with a freshening wind and minutes after the penalty they went down
the right and crossed under the bar, Karl Lewis did well to head the ball
for a corner when it looked more likely to be a second goal. We cleared
the
corner and Michael Waters made ground down the left to cross in for Ian
Jones but he was crowded out by several defenders and the chance was gone.
Our main attacking weapon seemed to be from throws in around the area, Steve
Parry got distance on those around the area but most were snapped up by the
defence. On 65 minutes Corey Thomas in space played a great ball across to
Luke Borrelli who from 30 yards shot just wide of the post. With 10
minutes
to go we went two down when they again made ground down the right and
crossed in low for Nana Baah to bundle the ball in from 3 yards.
On 84
minutes we had a free kick which Steve Parry played into the box, it was
cleared to Corey Thomas on the edge of the box and his first time shot was
cleared off the line with the keeper beaten. Two minutes from time Michael
Waters knocked in a corner which Corey reached but headed over the crossbar.
