Dinas Powys 0-1 Afan Lido

In a game of few chances spoilt by a strong wind blowing straight down the field Kieran Howells headed home the only goal two minutes into added on time. We played with the wind in the first half and created few scoring opportunities.

Ian Jones was unlucky in the 29th minute when he forced a fine save from the keeper. We had an early corner but Michael Waters knocked it too long and the ball was cleared. We conceded a free kick just outside the area but from a central position their full back fired the shot over the crossbar. As in previous matches we conceded a number of free kicks but most were cleared, after 10 minutes Justin Williams headed one clear to Michael Waters who found Kieran Howells then on to Steve Parry but Steve's return ball to Kieran caught on the wind and went for a goal kick. Yet another Dinas free kick was knocked beyond the far post and back in to the middle but under pressure from Dan Williams the shot went over the bar. After 18 minutes we conceded a penalty, Steve Parry and the Dinas forward went into the box contesting the ball, the Dinas forward was happy to go down and Steve was booked for his protestations. Leon Cosker guessed correctly and saved the penalty from Nana Baah. We were awarded a free kick in a central position but the keeper saved Michael Waters shot.

We had a few free kicks around 35-40 yards out but it was difficult to judge with the strength of the wind and few caused any problems. Ian Jones took one which went inches wide with the keeper struggling. On 29 minutes, Steve Parry and Michael Waters combined and fed Ian Jones with his back to goal. Ian turned and shot, their keeper went full length to his left to turn away the ball for a corner. Two minutes later Dinas had another free kick 25 yards out, Leon Cosker punched the ball clear to Steve Davies, Steve lost his footing and the Dinas full back knocked the ball back in but it was too long and went for a goal kick. Just before the interval we were awarded a corner which was cleared, Dinas broke quickly but failed to beat Leon with a header. However in the last couple of minutes of the half Leon was twice injured and it looked as though he would be replaced at half time. As it happened Leon continued and he was tested almost immediately as Dinas had a corner but we managed to clear the danger.

We attacked and Michael Waters set up Steve Cox who got in a shot from just inside the area but it was blocked by a couple of defenders. Ian Jones then picked up the ball just inside the Dinas half and he made ten yards before he was taken out, surprisingly the referee didn't give us a free kick and Dinas then broke, made ground down the right and a shot across the box went for a goal kick. 20 minutes into the half Dinas had a shot at goal from 30 yards which Leon Cosker watched and cleared. Steve Davies won the ball out right passed to Ian Jones on to Michael Waters on his left foot but he shot across the goal and wide. On 25 minutes Dinas had their best chance since the penalty miss when Leon Cosker fumbled a free kick and with Leon on the ground and the goal open Nana Baah fired over the bar from 12 yards. Just after the half hour a Dinas shot went just wide, from the goal kick Steve Davies went down the right and won a corner which he took and found Michael Waters, Michael headed it back to Steve but his shot went wide.

With four minutes to go Dinas had a corner which we cleared but it was played back in and they hit the outside of the post. On 90 minutes we were awarded a free kick for a foul on Corey Thomas but Steve Davies only managed it hit the first defender with the ball going for a throw. From the throw Steve crossed and found Michael Waters beyond the far post, Michael took on the defender and crossed low into the area, there were shouts for a penalty as it appeared a Dinas player handled the ball. Nothing was given but the ball bobbled about and Kieran Howells headed the ball into the empty net from 3 yards with team and supporters in raptures. We held on for the next 90 seconds to record an important win.
