In a
repeat scoreline of the Welsh Cup match two weeks ago we gained 3
points at the expense of Croesyceiliog. Once again Andrew
Pearson netted a
pair, Greg Hurley made a first appearance of the season.
We conceded a first minute free kick but Craig Martin headed
clear, Andrew
Pearson was then caught offside, something that was to feature a
lot in the
first half and cause Croesyceiliog a problem right on the
interval. We took
the lead after 7 minutes when Andrew Pearson knocked the ball to
Karl Lewis,
he crossed high into the penalty area and the keeper misjudged it,
Chris
Latham headed the cross in, a defender on the line tried to handle
to keep
it out but Chris's header was too strong.
Four minutes later
it was 2-0, we
had a free kick 30 yards out slightly to the left of goal.
Andrew Pearson
took it, Carl Evans stepped over it as it went into the area and
no one else
touched it. The Croesy defence stood motionless as it went
into the net.
After 24 minutes a neat move down our left involving Andrew
Pearson, Steve
Davies, Kieran Howells and Steve Parry saw Steve fire a first time
shot wide
of the far post. Carl Evans was injured after 26 minutes but
resumed after
treatment although it was obvious he wouldn't be able to continue
for long
and just after the half hour Aaron Keefe replaced Carl.
Croesy had a lot of
possession without looking very dangerous we were struggling with
their
offside trap but then right on half time we sprung it. Steve
Davies was in
acres of room and played the ball into the path of Andrew Pearson
who scored
with ease. They kicked off and the ref blew for half time,
several Croesy
players made their feelings known to the ref at the break.
We started the second half poorly and in the first five minutes
had two
players injured. Firstly Karl Lewis blocked a powerful shot
and secondly
Wyn was fouled when he collected a high cross thankfully both were
able to
continue after treatment. Croesy then had a series of free kicks
but luckily
for us they weren't able to capitalise on them. On 65
minutes Croesy
appealed for a penalty when Aaron Keefe cleared the ball after it
bounced up
and hit his arm but the ref waved on play as it wasn't deemed
intentional.
With just over 10 minutes to go a Croesy defender miskicked,
Andrew Pearson
picked up the ball and beat a couple of defenders but instead of
passing to
Steve Davies he chose the go himself and the keeper smother the
ball.
In
our next attack Steve Davies beat a couple of defenders down the
right and
rolled the ball in for the onrushing Kieran Howells, unluckily for
Kieran it
had slightly too much pace and he wasn't able to reach it to
score. A
minute later Croesy reduced the score when Rick Coffe their number
10 was in
space 30 yards out and shot over Wyn for what turned out to be a
consolation
goal. Spurred on by this they pushed forward and won a
corner which Chris
Latham cleared under extreme pressure. Greg Hurley had time
and space in
the area to turn and shoot but he wasn't able to find the target.
In the
last few minutes several Croesy players were booked when they lost
their
discipline knowing the game was lost.
