| We
progressed to Round 3 of the Welsh cup after an entertaining tie
well
refereed by Robert Clarke of Cardiff.
We went behind after 11 minutes when Chris Watkins scored but we
were only
behind for 8 minutes. Craig Martin took a quick free
kick in our box and
played it wide right to Kieran Howells. He made ground,
beat 2 defenders
and crossed to Andrew Pearson who stepped inside a defender before
chipping
into the top corner.
Approaching half time Andrew beat
a couple of
defenders and played Chris Latham in but Chris dragged his shot
wide of the
far post. Then in the final minute of the half the ball
was played wide to
Carl Edwards and his cross into the danger area just eluded the
onrushing
Corey Thomas.
The first 5 minutes of the second half was end to end before we
had a free
kick on the half way line, Steve Davies picked up the pass and
made ground
and his shot just clipped the outside of the post. On
the hour Steve then
carried the ball forward and played Andrew Pearson in but his pass
was just
over hit and went through to the keeper. Just
afterwards Andrew played the
ball wide to Carl Edwards but his cross was too strong and eluded
everyone.
Croesyceiliog picked the ball up and broke quickly catching us
short of
numbers in the back however with only Wyn to beat their striker
shot over
the bar from 6 yards.
Croesyceiliog now had their best
spell of the match
and we couldn't get any worthwhile possession they again missed
this time
with a header from a right wing cross. On 70 minutes
Croesy missed another
golden opportunity when another header from inside the 6 yard box
sailed
over the crossbar. 5 minutes later we finally got some
good possession and
took the lead, initially Andrew Pearson played it wide to Kieran
Howells who
knocked in a superb cross which Chris Latham met at the far post
with a
diving header but sent it wide. From the goal kick we
gained possession
knocked it forward and with Andrew Pearson in pursuit their
defender headed
back to the keeper. It was intercepted by Andrew who
slotted the ball past
the keeper as he came out.
Croesy pushed forward and
won a corner, the ball
was half cleared but a shot came in from the edge of the box, it
went
through a crowd of players but Craig Martin was on the line to
clear. It
was now beginning to look as if it was our day as Croesy had
missed several
easy chances and now had one cleared off the line. We
were now catching
Croesy on the break they were committing more and more forward
looking for
the equaliser and we caught them in added on time. Kieran
Howells fed Steve
Davies in our half wide right. With no-one in front of
him he sped down the
wing, cut into the penalty area and shot across the advancing
keeper into
the far corner to seal the win.
