Caldicot Town 0-0 Afan Lido

Despite playing against 10 men for 47 minutes of the match and having the majority of possession we were unable to score, once again we over elaborated and no one wanted the responsibility of shooting. There was a welcome return for Daniel Williams in his first appearance since the Ton Pentre match but once again there was no Shaun O'Leary We also lost Andrew Pearson through injury after 28 minutes.

We started well Andrew Pearson winning the ball in the air but no one was up in support to accept his knock down. Chris Latham, Carl Edwards and Paul Evans combined and Paul sent in a deep cross which the keeper chose to punch clear rather than catch it.  After 17 minutes Kieran Howells fed Steve Davies, he carried the ball forward and played it in to Andrew Pearson whose first time shot was saved at the near post. A minute later we were awarded a free kick 25 yards out to the right of the goal, Steve Parry took the kick and caught it really well but unfortunately the keeper got across to tip it over the bar for a corner. Caldicot went down the other end and their full back shot on the volley from outside the box, Wyn dived full length to his left to make a terrific save.

On the half hour Kieran Howells went down in the box and appeared to be stamped on, it was right under the linesman's nose but he didn't give anything, luckily Kieran was able to continue after treatment. On 39 minutes Steve Davies was played through the middle but the linesman gave him offside and the chance was lost. Corey Thomas was then played in by Steve Parry but his shot lacked power and the keeper saved. Steve Davies then beat the offside trap and we won a corner which Chris Latham headed goalwards and was deflected for another corner which this time the keeper held. Then on 43 minutes their 8 and Kieran Howells went for a 50-50 ball Kieran was caught and 8 had a second yellow and was off.

There was an amazing start to the second half, Caldicot kicked off and attacked down their right and shot, Wyn dived to his left to save and threw the ball out, we went down the other end and Kieran Howells had a shot blocked, all this in the first minute. Caldicot had another chance but Wyn again made a diving save. Steve Davies then had an opportunity but dwelt too long on the ball and the chance was lost.  Steve Davies and Corey Thomas both had half chances to score but out best chance came on the hour when Steve Parry crossed into the area and Chris Latham in space headed wide from about 12 yards.

Caldicot were now playing for a point and we had loads of possession, played lovely patterns across the pitch and back with no one creating any chances. This suited the home side who were relying on catching us on the break or getting something from a set piece.  With just over a quarter of an hour to go they had a corner which was half cleared, they played the ball back in and their 7 headed just over the bar.

We then had a free kick which the keeper held and he punted the ball downfield again they got into a good position but shot over the bar from the edge of the area. Steve Davies was caught offside several times in the latter stages of the game and was getting frustrated by it and in the second minute of added on time he was given offside with an open goal in front of him. In the fourth minute of added on time Carl Payne conceded a free kick 20 yards out and central, they took the free kick which went off the wall for a corner, Chris Latham headed that behind for another which we cleared to the sound of the full time whistle.
