Ely
comeback heaps misery on Barry
|
|
Ely Rangers
are celebrating a magnificent MacWhirter Welsh Football League victory at Barry
Town.
Former Barry
player Sean Nash scored two goals in Ely's charge back from three goals down at
half-time to win 4-3 at Jenner Park.
Ely scored
their winner with virtually the last kick of the match. Zak Misbah (15mins),
Leon Jeanne (19mins) and Jeff Maclean (32mins) scored for Barry as they
dominated the first half and at the interval Ely looked down and out.
But two goals
in two minutes soon after the break gave them new hope.
Maesteg Park
earned a shock 2-1 win against leaders Neath Athletic.
Robbie
Walters netted both for Maesteg, his second an 86th minute matchwinner.
Chris
Pritchard and Michael Dewar, after 88 minutes, scored for Croesyceiliog in a 2-1
win at home to Goytre.
Kerry Arden
scored both goals for Ento Aberaman Athletic in a 2-1 win against Dinas Powys,
who had Danny Kinsey on target.
John Howells
and Huw Neil scored for Uwic in their 2-0 victory against Taffs Well.
Cardiff
Corries are maintaining their challenge in Division Two and won 2-0 against
Morriston Town with Kevin Crock scoring both goals.

Haverfordwest
make double signings
|
|
The scoreless draw at home to
Carmarthen last Tuesday meant that Haverfordwest would not qualify for the later
stages of the Loosemore's Cup. Therefore, Derek Brazil is using
their last two matches in this competition to experiment and it is hoped that
two new signings will be on view tomorrow evening.
The manager has agreed terms
with Zak Misbah, a 6ft 4in striker from Barry. Zak is a proven goal scorer
and he did have a spell as a youngster with Blackburn Rovers. Also, ex
Swansea City favourite Jonathan Coates is keen to join Haverfordwest.
Jonathan
has been with quite a few clubs in his career, with most time spent at Swansea
City, he also had spells with Cheltenham and Woking.
He was
signed at Newport but due to budget cuts was released, he has played with
Carmarthen, Aberystwyth and Port Talbot in the welsh premier and has played for
Wales at youth, B and under 21 levels. Jonathan can play in defence midfield or
as a striker.
Zak
Joins Haverfordwest
from Barry Town, he was first brought to the welsh premier stage by Cwmbran who
signed him from Cardiff Cosmos, he later joined Neath Ath in the welsh league,
Zak is a towering striker at 6'4" and will be a handful for any centre
half.
Derek
Brazil hopes to have both players signed up for the Loosemore's cup game against
Llanelli.

TABLE-TOPPERS
Neath travelled up the Llynfi Valley and surprisingly went down 2-1 to
fifth-placed Maesteg Park.
Both
Park's goals came from Robbie Walters. His first, on 15 minutes, was quickly
cancelled out when Andy Hill netted for the visitors. Walters left it until four
minutes from time to give his side the victory.
New
boys Croesyceiliog beat reigning champions Goytre United at home. Chris
Pritchard scored first for Croes, only for the visitors to level. It took
another late effort to decide the game, when Michael Dewar netted in the 88th
minute.
Meanwhile,
ambitious ENTO Aberaman beat Dinas Powys. The score was once again 2-1 with
Kerry Arden getting both ENTO goals and Danny Kinsey replying for the visitors. ENTO
become new leaders.
It
will be all smiles at Ely Rangers, who travelled to Barry and piped the home
side 4-3. It was a miracle win, as Barry led 3-0 at the interval.
Mid-table
Ton Pentre won 2-0 at Bridgend, and Caerleon also gained an
away
victory at Grange Harlequins. There was also some cheer for the
struggling
students of UWIC. They beat Taffs Well 2-0 with goals from John Howells and Huw
Neil.

welsh premier update

League Champions,
The New saints lost an unbeaten League home record that stretched back 42 games
at Treflan, when Llanelli emerged 2-0 winners in the battle of the Title
favourites. A decisive moment came after 31 minutes, when The Saints had Scott
Ruscoe dismissed by FIFA referee, Mark Whitby, after which it proved to be a
uphill struggle for Ken McKenna's side. It seemed inevitable that The Reds would
break the deadlock, and not surprisingly it was Rhys Griffiths who opened the
scoring after 55 minutes, with Spanish ace Jacob Mingorance adding a second just
two minutes later. If they maintain this level of form, topping the the table
with two games in hand and only having dropped two points in their first nine
games, they look odds on to be the first recipients of the new Principality
Building Society Trophy.
Just behind
the top two and level on points with TNS are Rhyl, who demolished bottom of the
table Caernarfon Town 6-2 at the Oval, with Lee Hunt grabbing a brace for the
rampant Lilywhites, who look more than capable of winning a European place for
the fourth successive season.
Just down the
road at Bangor, their was some real shenanigans with cards being spread like
confetti. Visitors Aberystwyth Town will have their frustration at receiving
four yellows somewhat tempered after emerging 4-1 winners, two of their goals
being scored by Geraint Passmore. The home side, however, had a thorougly
frustrating afternoon, with Player Manager, Clayton Blackmore being on the wrong
end of one of four yellow cards shown to his side by Referee, Andy Richards and
then watching two of his players see Red.
The most
improved side in the League are probably Welshpool Town and Manager Tommi Morgan
must have been delighted to come away from Connah's Quay with a 3-1 win.
While another
happy Manager will be be Haverfordwest's Derek Brazil who won their first League
game of the season 3-2 at the expense of struggling Newtown.
Two other
sides who have found points hard to come by Airbus UK and Porthmadog clashed at
The Airfield and at least had the satisfaction of increasing their respective
tallies by one as a result of a 1-1 draw.
It was also a
point apiece for Caersws and Cwmbran Town who appear to have played out an
exciting 3-3 draw in another match that was littered with cards
On Friday
evening at Richmond Park Scottish Football Association Referee, Colin Brown was
in charge as part of the exchange scheme that will see Swansea official Dean
John take charge of a Scottish Cup match in November. In a game that was decided
by a Nathan Cotterill penalty, Carmarthen added to Port Talbot's recent woes,
this being their third successive League defeat.

Sugrue
in Wales mix
|
|
Merthyr
Tydfil manager Paul Sugrue has emerged as one of the leading candidates to take
over the Wales non-league side following Andy Beattie's departure, writes Mark
Bloom.
Sugrue has
impressed in taking the Martyrs to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup
while maintaining an unbeaten record in the Southern League Premier Division.
Having
managed in the international set-up before, under Bobby Gould, Sugrue would be a
leading name for the position.
'I think its
a fantastic opportunity, especially with the talent we have in the country at
the moment,' said Sugrue.
'Clubs are
starting to make an impact in Europe and we have some excellent talent around
the clubs.
'If the
opportunity was there I would be honoured, but I am sure there will be plenty of
quality applicants.'

Nicholls
thumbs-up after Ponty's good start
|
|
Manager Ryan
Nicholls is setting high standards at Pontypridd Town.
The former
Cardiff City player steered Ponty to promotion last season and is intent on
taking the club up to Principality Welsh Premier League status.
That's a
tough call with only one promotion place available from MacWhirter Welsh League
Division One - and clubs like Bridgend Town, defending champions Goytre United,
Neath Athletic, Afan Lido and more chasing success.
But Nicholls,
33, feels his Pontypridd team have made a solid start. At one stage they
recorded seven successive wins.
'There was
bound to be a touch of apprehension about how we would start even after our
championship-winning campaign last season,' said Nicholls. 'But I have been
pleased with most of the performances so far.
'We had to
strengthen in certain positions for the step up, but it was pleasing that most
of the newcomers were local boys who have been playing at a higher level.
'Nevertheless,
like most managers, I'm always on the lookout and if the right players became
available we could strengthen further.
'We probably
need one or two more because with the side becoming more settled, several lads
who have not been getting a game have understandably left in search of regular
football elsewhere and we have a very small squad

Giles
refuses to rush back to a club job
|
|
It seems
remarkable that Paul Giles, one of the most successful coaches in Welsh domestic
football, is not currently linked to a club.
He's busy
with coaching most of the week, including helping another ex-Cardiff City player
Kurt Nogan with his soccer schools, but isn't involved with a club.
'I'd love to
get back into management immediately, but it would have to be right for me,'
says Giles.
'That really
means a Welsh League Division One club who are ambitious or a club in the Welsh
Premiership.
'I'm not
going to rush into anything that isn't right.'
Giles was
linked to the vacancy at Haverfordwest County when Deryn Brace left the club,
but that job went to Derek Brazil, a former Cardiff City player stepping into
his first job as manager.
Newtown
wanted Giles to join them as assistant manager, but the travelling to the
mid-Wales club was prohibitive.
'I have
plenty of work in coaching right now, so I will wait,' said Giles.
'I will know
the right offer to take when it comes along.'

Jenner
Park basement battle

Ely Rangers
make the short trip from their headquarters in Wenvoe to face Barry Town in a
MacWhirter Welsh League clash at Jenner Park tomorrow.
Both teams
have had a difficult start to the season and are in the bottom four of Division
One.
Barry earned
their first win, indeed their first points, of the season with a 3-2 success at
Newport YMCA last Saturday, while Ely have secured two League victories.
But they have
lost their last three First Division fixtures without scoring a goal, losing 3-0
at home to Bryntirion Athletic, 1-0 at Maesteg Park and 3-0 at home to Bridgend
Town.
Barry manager
Gavin Price said: 'We knew it would be tough for us at the start of the season

'It was good to earn a first win

We're
still underdogs claims Nicholas
|
Llanelli manager
Peter Nicholas insists The New Saints are still favourites to retain their
league crown despite his club's unbeaten start to the season. Ahead of the clash
between the league's top two clubs, Nicholas has taken the pressure off his own
team by handing them the tag of underdogs.
The
Reds travel to Treflan (2.30) knowing a win would put them joint top with the
Saints and boasting two games in hand.
But Nicholas has played down any title talk.
"It's an important game, but not as important as everyone is making it out
to be," he said. "It's very early in the season and it's not a game
that will decide the title. "They are the team to beat and everyone wants
to do well against them.
"I think they are still the title favourites. They are a very good team who
have strengthened well since losing a few players."
"The fans have been great so far," he said. "I know there are
quite a few going up on Saturday - it will really help the players.
"We appreciated the numbers that turned up there last year and even more
support would give us a huge boost."

Ports
Davies slams 'big wigs'
|
|
Port Talbot
manager Wayne Davies says his players have paid the price for believing in their
own publicity.
Davies didn't
hold back in criticism of his players who were thumped 3-0 by Airbus in the
Welsh Premiership.
Straight
talking Davies felt his players had become 'big wigs' after toppling
championship favourites TNS the previous week.
Port Talbot
then suffered a wretched hangover when they simply crumbled at previously
winless and relegation dabblers Airbus.
'It was a bad
day for us,' said a disappointed Davies.
'The players
are not the big wigs they thought they were, and now must realise they have to
work their socks off every week.
'We were
unrecognisable from the side that beat TNS.
'Airbus
deserved their win as we fell below the standards we have set this season and
got what we deserved.'
Davies
revealed that he had warned his side against complacency, but his words fell on
deaf ears.
He said: 'We
knew we had to guard against it and we were aware of it.
'There were
fears of this happening and we were brought down to earth with a bump.
'The
difference between success and failure is small, and when the team is not giving
100 per cent, then things like this result happen.'

Mark Jones is
urging his Carmarthen Town side to transfer their fine away form to Richmond
Park.
Town
have been red-hot on their travels this term and clinched another three
Principality Premier points with a thrilling 5-4 victory at Cwmbran on Saturday.
Carmarthen, following their 7-1 win at the ground in the Welsh Cup, have scored
12 goals at the Gwent stadium in the last month.
Now Jones wants his side to step up their performances at home ahead of their
clash with Port Talbot on Friday night.
"Our away form is most probably the best in the league and our
entertainment value must be good," said Jones.
"It suits us, as I think we are a better team on the break. When we are
playing away teams come at you and there tends to be a few more gaps.
"At home we need to be a bit more patient.
"Friday night is a bit of a derby against Port Talbot. The away fans have
had some great wins to cheer. We need a home win now to give the home fans

Six
up for Llanelli with easy victory
|
|
WELSH PREMIER
League Cup Group D champions Llanelli made it six wins from six starts with a
comfortable 3-1 victory over plucky Cwmbran Town at Stebonheath Park last night.
The visitors
stunned the home crowd when they took a 20th-minute lead after Shane Dawe and
Sam Small combined well for the latter to beat home keeper Gareth Williams.
But the Reds
drew level five minutes before the break, James Thomas firing home a spot-kick
after Nick Harrhy had been brought down.
Harrhy (68)
then benefited from Craig Williams' cross to put the visitors ahead and a minute
later, it was a Thomas cross that earned Harrhy his second.
Carmarthen
virtually assured themselves a place in the quarter-final stage when they held
nearest rivals Haverfordwest County to a scoreless draw at Bridge Meadow.
Tony Bird, who was red-carded
late on, and Tim Hicks, both missed good opportunities for the Bluebirds, while
Kaid Mohamed and Mattie Davies had chances for the visitors.

The home side

Then Misbah

H'west
confirm release of Deryn Brace
|
|
Now
that the dust has settled, the Directors of Haverfordwest County AFC feel it
appropriate to explain to the Bluebirds fans the reasons behind the appointment
of a new manager.
For
a number of personal reasons, which included difficulties with future work
commitments, Deryn Brace had felt uncomfortable in his role of manager at the
club for many weeks. Being aware of this and the need to comply with UEFA
regulations, the Directors were actively looking for an experienced and
qualified coach to assist Deryn in his managerial duties. No compromise could be
reached and matters came to a head after the Welsh Cup tie at Port Talbot when
the manager decided to resign.
The
board of directors considered several options in their quest to quickly find
Deryn's successor. After careful
consideration Derek Brazil was appointed and he commenced his duties on Monday 9th
October. Within hours of his appointment, Mr. Brazil had lengthy talks with the
former manager and it was decided that Deryn Brace be released as a player. This
was an amicable decision that was reached between two honest professionals.
Within
48 hours of Deryn's resignation,
Haverfordwest County re-signed Simon Gilderdale and he was pitched in against
Llanelli where he performed very well. The intention of the new manager is to
nurture the abundance of local talent and the proof of this was seen at Rhyl
last Saturday when four local players made their Premier League debut.

Welsh
premier league round up
|
|
The New Saints remain at the top of the
Principality Welsh Premier following a 2-1 away victory over Porthmadog, but with Llanelli and Rhyl also winning, it's still very tight at the top. The Champions fell behind to a tenth minute Les Davies goal, but fought back in the Second Half through strikes from Mike Wilde shortly before the hour and sub John Toner netted the winner with just eight minutes remaining.
Llanelli still have two games in hand over the leaders but are hot on their heels and they continued their excellent run of form to beat a spirited NEWI Cefn Druids. Rhys Griffiths was described by his Manager as the missing piece in the jigsaw in midweek and he showed just why he has been fundamental in the Reds' success, by scoring on five minutes. The hugely experienced Gary Lloyd extende the lead from the spot just before the half hour, but Mike Heverin gave the vistitors hope on 34 minutes. The win wasn't sealed though until Lloyd scored his second with ten minutes remaining.
Third placed Rhyl defeated Haverfordwest in Derek Brazil's first game in charge. Midfielder Carl Clampitt opened the scoring for Rhyl but Lee Hudgell equalised before Half Time. Tim Hicks then put the visitors ahead with just thirteen minutes left but the
Lily's responded almost immediately through defender George Horan and Bluebirds hearts were broken when sub Dylan Owen scored his first for the club with three minutes to play.
Connah's Quay have enjoyed an excellent October and they continued their good form with a 4-3 win at home to Caersws. Mark Griffiths gave the visitors the lead, but Adam Dickinson's strike drew the sides level at half time. Craig Hutchison put the Nomads in font before Neil Mitchell equalised. Craig Garside scored for the Nomads but Chris Williams put through his net to bring the scores level again until Captain Marvel, Marc Limbert won it for the Nomads.
Port Talbot were again defeated, but this time at the Remax Stadium by a whopping 5-0 to Bangor City, who ad Ricky Evans dismissed. Strikers Marc Lloyd Williams (2), Ashley Stott (2) and Paul Roberts all netting meaning the Steelmen have lost both League games since defeating Champions TNS.
There were an amazing nine goals at the Cwmbran Stadium with Carmarthen winning the game 5-4. Former Crows Kaid Mohammed and Kris Thomas were both on the
score sheet with the former notching an impressive hat-trick. Mark Dodds scored the other Town goal, whilst Kris Hanbury, Josh Collins, Rhys Williams and Jodie Jenkins scored for the home side, the latter just consolation in injury time.
Aberystwyth were held to a one all draw against Airbus with Geraint Passmore for Aber and James Hussaney for Airbus both scoring in the First Half, whilst Welshpool ensured that Darren Ryan and Graham Evans' first League match in charge of Newtown got off to the worst possible start as the Lilywhites won 1-0 through a 40th minute Calvin Davies effort. Caernarfon remain bottom as they were the side without a game this weekend.

Davies
is vowing to avoid repeat of defeat

|
PORT TALBOT
boss Wayne Davies has vowed there will be no repeat of the shock defeat at
Airbus UK.
"I can
promise a different performance to the one last weekend," said Davies,
ahead of Bangor City's visit to the Remax Stadium.
The Airbus
defeat brought a five-game winning sequence to an abrupt halt after the Steelmen
had risen to second spot behind TNS.
And they will
be wary of Bangor's excellent record in Port Talbot, having not lost at the
ground in five seasons.
"A few
of the lads have good memories of playing down there, but it will count for
little on the day," said Bangor player-manager Clayton Blackmore.
"Consistency has been a

Steelmen
out to show their mettle
|
A Very different
Port Talbot Town will turn up for tomorrow's Welsh Premier meeting with Bangor
City at the Remax Stadium than the one that lost against Airbus UK. That is the
pledge from manager Wayne Davies, as the Steelmen quickly look to put last
weekend's shock 3-0 reverse behind them.
"It
was a big disappointment after such a good spell, but we just didn't turn up,''
said Davies.
"We have had a get-together since and I promise you won't see the same
performance.
"Perhaps we saw it coming after the win over TNS.
"We tried to drive out any complacency and thought we had prepared for it,
but just didn't get out of second gear on the day."
The Steelmen realise that they will have to quickly recapture the form that
brought five straight league wins if they are to get the better of the North
Wales visitors who have a good record at the ground.
It is five seasons since Port Talbot bagged all three points in a 1-0 victory
back in 2001-02.
Davies hopes to have Andrew Mumford available after a bout of flu, while Dean
Johnson and Tom Hooper both appeared in the midweek Challenge Cup game at

Nicholas
hails reds new goal machine
|
Peter Nicholas has hailed Rhys Griffiths as the missing piece in Llanelli's jigsaw.
The on-fire striker has bagged 10 goals in his last two matches and the Reds boss believes his capture was crucial.
"Rhys was a very important summer signing for us," said Nicholas.
"He's a proven goalscorer, something that was missing from the side last year.
"We wanted a player capable of scoring 20-plus goals a season and he's proved already that he can live with that role."
"We are a side that creates a lot of chances, so he is having plenty of opportunities."
Griffiths scored four times last Saturday as Llanelli routed Caernarfon 6-2 to once again underline their status as realistic challengers for the principality Premier title.
And the former Port Talbot hitman was on target twice on Tuesday as his side swept into the quarter-finals of the Loosemores Cup with a 4-0 win over Carmarthen.
Griffiths opened the scoring with a header from a Gary Lloyd corner, before Lloyd doubled the advantage with a penalty.
Griffiths then added a second before substitute Nick Harrhy rounded off the scoring. Their victory means Llanelli now have a home draw in the knockout stages.

Peter Nicholas is hoping to heap the pressure on reigning Welsh Premier champions The New Saints. The Saints lost their first match of the season last weekend - and Nicholas wants his side to take advantage by taking six points from their next two matches.
Ken McKenna's men were beaten at Port Talbot and Llanelli boss Nicholas insists that result offers belief to other clubs challenging for the title.
Llanelli beat Haverfordwest 3-2 last week to move to within three points of the Saints with two games in hand and Nicholas is hoping to edge ahead of his rivals after seeing them run away with the title last season.
And with the two bottom clubs up next, the Reds have the perfect opportunity to keep their unbeaten league campaign ticking over.
They travel to Caernarfon this Saturday (2.30) before hosting Newi Cefn Druids a week later.
Nicholas, however, is refusing to be complacent.
"These teams will give us a fight, there's no doubt about that," he said. "They are games which on paper we are expected to win. But that's not always the case.
"I don't believe in complacency and neither do my players. If you allow that to creep into your game, you will lose.
"We will treat Caernarfon and Newi Cefn Druids the same as anyone else. After seeing the Saints lose last week we have to take full advantage."
The Reds have made a near faultless start to the Welsh Premier. They have won four and drawn one of their five games, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three.
Besides strength in depth, Llanelli's versatility has been a factor in their early success. Captain Lee Phillips switched from defence to midfield for last week's victory over Haverfordwest while striker Cortez Belle has been used as a centre-half.

Mark
Jones wants Carmarthen Town to learn how to break down defences after their
winning run came to an end.
Town slipped to a 3-1 home defeat by Connah's Quay
Nomads on Saturday in a game in which the visitors produced several devastating
counter-attacks.
It was a defeat that dropped Carmarthen to sixth in the Principality Welsh
Premier, seven points behind leaders and reigning champions The New Saints.
''What we do have to be careful of is that teams do not pack the defence and
beat us on the break as happened here," said Jones.
Carmarthen will look to bounce back quickly when they travel to Cwmbran on
Saturday, a ground where they won 7-1 in the Welsh Cup just three weeks ago.

Premier League Remembers Aberfan
|
|
There
will be a minutes silence prior to all Principality Welsh Premier League games
played on Saturday to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the Aberfan
disaster in which 144 people lost their lives, 116 of whom were children when a
tip of coal waste slid on to the South Wales village, engulfing the local junior
school. Any flags flown at Principality Welsh Premier grounds will be at
half-mast.
Principality
Welsh Premier League Secretary John Deakin said, “although almost all of those
participating in Saturday’s matches will be too young to remember the
disaster, I’m sure that everyone would agree it appropriate to remember a
tragedy that has had a profound affect throughout Wales for the past forty
years.”

Roberts set for Championship Switch
|
Former Welshpool Town, Bangor City and Rhyl winger Gary Roberts could be set to continue his rapid footballing rise as he has been linked with a switch to the English Championship. Ipswich Town are closing in on the emergency loan signing of the left winger from League 2 side, Accrington Stanley.
The 22-year-old could join the Championship side until January as Tractor Boys boss Jim Magilton hopes to bolster his squad with a number of the current squad of midfielders being sidelined through injury, illness and loan returns.
There are so many good players in the Welsh Premier and it's surprising that more Football League scouts
don't come and have a look.
Roberts, who has also operated as a central striker, has scored eight goals in League Two this season following Stanley's promotion from the Conference, where a number of outstanding performances in his first season at that level, saw him gain selection for the English Semi-Professional team in May 2006. He has also been in inspirational form this term and was
short listed for the Player of the Month Award for September.
Roberts joined Accrington from Welshpool in March 2005 after starting out at Crewe and Liverpool and he was linked with a £20,000 move to Yeovil Town in the summer, but that collapsed with Stanley desperate to hang on to him. If Roberts makes the switch it will be a further boost for the League that has seen 'old boys' Steve Evans, Jimmy McNulty and Martyn Giles move to Wrexham,
Macclesfield and Hereford respectively this season and also Owain Tudor Jones from Bangor to Swansea last year.
Roberts is very grateful to the Principality Welsh Premier League for providing him with his first opportunity as he said at the Semi Pro Tournament in May;
"There are so many good players in the Welsh Premier and it's surprising that more Football League scouts
don't come and have a look because there is genuinely a lot of talent "

Preece Resigns from the Robins
|
Newtown AFC have accepted the resignation of their First Team Manager, Roger Preece. Roger tendered his resignation to Club Chairman, Elwyn Preece on Sunday, but the formal acceptance did not take place until Monday evening at a specially convened Board Meeting of the Club's Directors. Assistant Manager, Matt Burton has also left the Club.
Chairman, Elwyn Preece (no relation) expressed his thanks and appreciation for the work carried out by Roger over the past three years and, together with the Board of Directors, wishes him well for the future.
A new Manager is being sought via advertisements, but the Board has resolved not to make a quick decision, instead wish to examine each and every applicant on their individual merits and in line with the Club's playing policies and overall strategy. In the interim, control will be passed over to Reserve Team Manager, Graham Evans and playing squad member, Darren Ryan. They will take control for this evening's final Loosemoores Cup match at home to arch rivals Caersws and thereafter until the Board review matters.
Preece's last match in charge was the dismal 6-0 home defeat to Rhyl on Saturday, when he handed a debut to midfielder Glenn Tolley, his final signing from AFC Telford. Tolley and Preece were together at Shrewsbury Town, but their re-unification only lasted a matter of days. The Robins are currently fifteenth in the League table with just four points in seven games after a home draw with Aberystwyth and an away win against Porthmadog. They are already out of the Loosemores Cup, but still remain in the Welsh Cup. The change has come at a hugely important time for the Robins as their next four League games are against the indifferent Welshpool and Haverfordwest (both away) and fellow strugglers Caernarfon at home and then away at NEWI Cefn Druids.
Preece is the third managerial change already this season after Waynne Phillips and Deryn Brace left Caernarfon Town and Haverfordwest County respectively.

TNS
manager concerned at Llanelli's rise
|
New Saints
manager Ken McKenna showed his increasing concern over Llanelli's threat to his
club's Welsh Premier dominance when he watched from the stand as the Reds
thrashed struggling Caernarfon Town 6-2 at the Oval. There is no doubt that
Peter Nicholas's side are a more complete outfit this season and the addition to
the squad of Rhys Griffiths has given them a new dimension.
Last
season's Golden Boot winner - Griffiths netted 28 times for Port Talbot - hit
the target four times to down the Canaries and take his season's tally to 10
goals from just six matches.
"Rhys was a very important summer signing for us," said Nicholas.
"He's a proven goalscorer, something that was missing from the side last
year. We wanted a player capable of scoring 20-plus goals a season and he's
proved already that he can live with that role.''
And McKenna's verdict on
Llanelli's title chances?
"They are in with a good chance and we'll have to be on our mettle when we
play them," he said.

league div 1 round up
|
Champions Goytre
United returned to form, with a late goal from substitute Kevin Bartley giving
them a 2-1 victory over Pontypridd at Ynysangharad Park.Having lost back-to-back
home games against West End in the Welsh Cup and Afan Lido in the league, the
Port Talbot village side handed last year's second division champions only a
second league defeat of the season.
A
goal from James Ryman sent Pontypridd in with a 1-0 lead, with Jonny Walkley
levelling in the 80th minute.
The game seemed to be petering out to a draw until Bartley and Ponty defender
Danny Street contested a cross, with Bartley getting the final touch to wrap up
the points.
Despite struggling for long periods at Bryntirion, leaders Neath Athletic won
the day 2-1.
Neil Williams gave the Bridgend side the lead from the penalty spot on the
half-hour, but Neath were awarded a penalty 10 minutes later which Andy Hill
converted.
Then, just before the break, Mattie Rees played a telling ball into the six-yard
box for Carl Shaw to collect a seventh goal of the season.
Though Neath came under fire during the second period with Bryntirion's Ian
Gearie missing a sitter, they clung on to remain three points clear.
Maesteg Park remain fourth
after beating Ely Rangers 1-0 at Tudor Park.
Lee O'Brien got on the end of an Ian Shepherd free-kick to head home the
all-important goal in the 72nd minute.
But there was no joy for Pontardawe Town, who went down to a 2-1 home defeat
against third-placed Taffs Well.
Andy Hammett shot the Wellmen ahead midway through the first half, with an
own-goal from Gareth Wallwork evening things up 10 minutes into the second
period.
But it was not to be for Pontardawe, and in the 65th minute ex-Bryntirion man
Brian Burke headed in the winner.
Goals from Drew Fahiya, Rhys Jones and Andrew Mainwaring enabled Bridgend Town
to register a 3-1 home win over Newport YMCA, who had Danny Querto on target.

Airbus swoop in for unlikely victory
|
PORT Talbot were undefeated in the league since their initial glitch in the opening week of the season, so everyone was expecting them to make light work of polishing off Airbus UK.
And Wingmakers' manager Wayne Roberts made eight changes to the side which lost so heavily in midweek, bringing in Steve Gunby to replace Steve Futcher.
And Airbus bossed this encounter right from the start.
They did weather an early storm when Chad Bond, Martin Rose and Andrew Mumford should all have done better with half-chances.
The home side took the game by the scruff of the neck and opened their account after 23 minutes when player-boss Gareth Owen played in James McIntosh with an inch-perfect ball and, following a 30-yard run, he slid the ball past ex-Wrexham stopper Kristian Rogers.
Port Talbot, second in the table, were expected to come out of the blocks after the break and turn this encounter around - but, to be fair, they never really got a kick.
As the game went on the Steelmen's play deteriorated and Airbus took full advantage.
And they doubled their tally on the hour mark.
McIntosh whipped in a cross from the right, a glancing header from Ryan Crawford fell to Darren Williams, who set up Gareth Sudlow to score from close range.
The visitors' heads really dropped at that point and McIntosh extended the Airbus lead in the 69th minute after he had made a run from deep inside his own half, and while Port Talbot's goalkeeper Rogers denied him at the first attempt, he tucked away the rebound with ease.

Rhys wraps up the show
|
LLANELLI, who invariably enjoy their visits to Caernarfon, won again at The Oval and this was one of their most convincing shows ever, with Rhys Griffiths starring.
Hit man Griffiths scored four times, twice in each half, with Antonio Corbisiero and Craig Williams also scoring.
Williams' effort on 83 minutes was the pick of the bunch, a scorching drive from 25 yards, which flashed past helpless Paul Pritchard in the Canaries' goal.
Caernarfon, who were 0-3 down at half-time, conceded two more goals before managing replies in the closing 10 minutes from Lee Jones, with a penalty, and Craig Roberts.

Nomads come home with victory
|
HE visitors came out and surprised Carmarthen, dominating the first 10 minutes, and scoring when Adam Dickinson lashed home a fierce 25-yard shot.
After that opening storm they settled back and took their chances on the break. Although Nathan Cotterrall equalised with a fine individual goal, Dickinson restored the lead with another long-range effort, which passed under keeper Neil Thomas' body.
In the second half, Nomads' keeper Paul Smith kept them in front with a blinding save from Kaid Mohamed, before Tommie Mutton clinched the win with an 82nd minute strike.

Crows find a Leek in City's defence
|
AN OPPORTUNIST goal by teenager Kristopher Leek on 68 minutes enabled Cwmbran to collect another point on their travels, at Bangor City's expense, but they lived dangerously at Farrar Road.
The Crows, who survived numerous frenetic situations, were also within minutes of faring even better, because City's equaliser was late arriving - a 15-yard scorcher from Ashley Stott.
Bangor created the greater quota of clear-cut chances in a lively contest and among Cwmbran's escapes were a couple of goal-post hits, which delighted keeper Gareth Wesson.
Late on, though, Wesson should have been beaten by home striker Paul Roberts, who contrived to drag an effort from just five yards away from the target, when it looked easier to net.

Caerleon
forced to scrap team
|
CAERLEON, the First Division MacWhirter Welsh League club, have been forced to scrap their under-19 team playing in the Youth Division (East), writes Ray Parker.
The move largely comes because of the one player-one club ruling being operated by the Gwent County FA, jumping the gun a year ahead of the nationwide ruling coming into force.
Three associations in Wales introduced the ruling this season - not a popular move - and the effects are already being felt with Morriston’s youth side falling by the wayside in West Wales and now Caerleon.
David Griffiths, former player-manager with Caerleon and now chairman, said: “It is really disappointing and a great shame that it has happened.
“We have a good under-16 side and those players will be looking to progress and if we don’t resurrect our under-19 team they could be lost to the club.
“Last season our reserves finished runners-up in the reserve division and many of the squad were players from the under-19 team.”
But it is not all down to the one player-one club ruling as Griffiths pointed out. He added: “It is disappointing to take such a decision but it is also a sign of the times when players say they are coming and just don’t turn up.
“You cannot expect anyone to put up with that situation.
“We held a meeting at the club between officials and players. We had about eight or so names but over half were involved in Gwent County League sides on a Saturday.
“However, they were not always playing every Saturday, but with the ruling by the Gwent FA they couldn’t play and we had to make a decision.
“I have written to the league expressing both my surprise and annoyance over the ludicrous ruling.”

Two more players have left Connah's Quay Nomads with midfielder Tony Cann joining English outfit St. Werburghs FC in the West Cheshire League and twenty-one year old Matthew Phillips moving to Airbus UK. Cann, 19, started just one game this year and featured twice as a sub. Meanwhile, Phillips who joined the Nomads in August 2005 after playing for Caernarfon Town and Chester City hasn't played at all this term.
Nev Powell having one of the largest squads in the League and has seen strikers Calvin Davies and Gary O'Toole both leave in recent weeks whilst back-up Goalkeeper, Dimitri Brinias has returned to Cyprus.
Another Goalkeeper on the move is Airbus UK's Stuart McIntosh. The former NEWI Cefn Druids
glove man has returned to another of his former clubs, Christleton in the West Cheshire League. He signed for Airbus UK in 2004/5, but spent last season on the sidelines injured. He played four times this term, with youngster Adam McGhee occupying the jersey more
frequently and he leaves his brother James, who is a midfielder at the Airfield.
Newtown have today completed the signing of Midfielder Glen Tolley (left) from AFC Telford. The former Shrewsbury player who was at Gay Meadow with new Manager Roger Preece will go straight into the Robins squad for Saturday's match against Rhyl. His former boss at Telford, Rob Smith told the club website, "He's been a cracking lad to work with and I can't fault his attitude. His leaving is totally amicable and I'd like to thank him for his efforts."

Canaries bring in
2 Cymru Alliance Stars
|
Steve O'Shaughnessy has brought two new faces to the Oval in time for their home match against on-fire Llanelli tomorrow. It has always been the intention of the former Druids boss to
rejuvenate the squad he inherited from Waynne Phillips and that has seen the high profile departure of Steve Watkin to his former club.
Canaries fans will be pleased though as the two new faces that have been drafted in, have both excelled in the Cymru Alliance and O'Shaughnessy believes they are both ready to make the step up to Principality Welsh Premier football.
The first acquisition is goalkeeper, Ben Heald who has signed from Llanfair PG. The excellent
shot-stopper progressed from Llanfair's reserves and after an excellent 2005/06, he was voted both Players and Joint-Supporters Player of the Year. The 22 year old was the club captain at Llanfair PG and was also a member of the Anglesey Island games squad. He is expected to replace Paul Pritchard in the Canaries goal tomorrow and faces a baptism of fire against Llanelli's outstanding strikers Jacob Mignorance, Rhys Griffiths and James Thomas.
Also linking up at the Oval is midfielder Mark Thomas who joins from Cymru Alliance Champions, CPD Glantraeth. Normally a central midfielder, Thomas can adapts to a variety of roles which will help his new boss. His previous clubs include Rhayader Town, Bangor City and Cemaes Bay and he was the 2005/06 Player of the Year at Glantraeth during their Championship winning season.

Dixie Desperate for the Win
|
Druids fans are hopeful that Carl Lamb (pictured) will return to the Druids starting line-up tonight as he continues his recovery from a broken knuckle. The Ancient's leading scorer has had a lightweight cast put on his hand, and Druids manager Dixie McNeil is hoping that he'll be given the all-clear to play.
If Lamb does start up front, McNeil might play him alongside Mike Heverin up front, with recent signing Steve Watkin in midfield - a position he frequently played in at previous club, Caernarfon Town.
As tonight's opponents, Porthmadog, are also struggling with five points from six games, McNeil is expecting a tough game. He said;
"We have got two very hard games coming up in the shape of Llanelli and Rhyl away. We have to win tonight...I've often said it's all about ourselves. But, if Porthmadog are about where we are, then they will be looking for the points as well."
Purely and simply, tonight can be described in one word... Win
The manager added; "I'm confident, though, that we can win the game. We should have won the games away at Caersws and Cwmbran and also Connah's Quay at home, but we only have one point to show for it.
"We should have killed off games like them, but we didn't. That is something for everyone - players and management to look at."
The experienced McNeil concluded; "Purely and simply, tonight can be described in one word. Win!"

Crows
Jenkins on fire
|
|
Jody Jenkins has proved a really
big hit since returning to Cwmbran Town from MacWhirter Welsh League neighbours
Croesyceiliog.
Front runner Jenkins, bridging
the class gap with ease, has scored eight goals - the leading league hot-shot in
the Principality Building Society Welsh Premier League - and it was a master
stroke by manager Sean Wharton to persuade Jenkins to make a return.
Jenkins, looking to increase
his tally at Bangor City tomorrow afternoon (kick-off 2.30pm), was twice on the
mark in the 2-2 home draw with Airbus UK last week - a game the mid-table Crows
should have won, allowing a two-goal lead to slip away.
Wharton said: "It was as
if we had lost the cup in the dressing room after the game. It was three points
we had in the bag and then gave it away, but it happens and we will learn from
it."
It was even tougher on Jenkins
who had guided the Crows to a winning position. Wharton added: "He has been
absolutely superb. I cannot fault him at all. We probably do not create so many
chances as The New Saints (TNS) or Carmarthen which makes his achievement even
more commendable.
"But it is not only his
scoring achievements, but his attitude has been great and he leads by example.
He is there at every training session and is a great influence in the dressing
room. He simply has all the attributes which go to make up a good
professional."

Llanelli manager
Peter Nicholas will ask his side to dismiss thoughts of a routine Welsh Premier
victory at struggling Caernarfon tomorrow. The Stebonheath Park boss has been in
football long enough to know that taking results for granted can have disastrous
consequences, especially as the Canaries have a new manager at the helm.
Steve
O'Shaughnessy has taken over the Oval hot seat but faces a massive rebuilding
programme and has already seen former Swansea City striker Steve Watkin leave
for Newi Cefn Druids.
Nicholas said: ''Steve's a keen, young manager and will be looking to make an
impact so we will go there anticipating a difficult game.
''We are playing well at the moment and the midweek 4-1 Loosemore's League Cup
victory at Port Talbot was pleasing as we made a number of changes and the lads
who came in responded well.
''It means we have keen competition for places so no player can rest on his
laurels.''

Port
Talbot looking to break Hoodoo
|
Port Talbot have won their last
five league encounters and should stretch that to six at Airbus UK.
The wingmakers have yet to record a victory but they have drawn three of their
opening seven matches.
''It has always been a tough venue for us,'' said Port Talbot boss Wayne Davies
whose side have lost on both their previous trips to Broughton.
''It is important we don't get carried away by our fantastic victory over TNS
last week and also our excellent start to the season.''
If TNS slip up at home to Aberystwyth tonight and Port Talbot a win at Airbus,
the Steelmen will go to the top of the table still with games in hand over all
their nearest challengers, except Llanelli.
The injury crisis that struck last week has eased with Craig Hanford, Andrew
Pearson, Tom Hooper and Kurt Huggins back in contention for places. Andrew
Mumford also returns following suspension.
Only Robert Cockings is a definite non-starter while Dean Johnson and Chris
Pridham will be subject to late fitness tests.

Carmarthen
looking for 1st win in 6 years

Goal hungry Carmarthen face a big
challenge at Richmond Park where improving Connah's Quay are the visitors.
In their last three matches, Carmarthen have slammed Cwmbran twice in cup
competitions (7-1 and 4-0) and they followed up these successes with a thumping
7-1 victory at Caersws in the league last week.
"It's great we have been finding the net so regularly but I still would
have been happier had we not conceded a couple of goals,'' said Carmarthen's
hard task master of a manager, Mark Jones.
Astonishingly, the two sides have drawn their last five encounters at Richmond

Carmarthen are at full strength and new signing Stewart Edwards will be in the
squad, but Nomads will be without suspended Marc Limbert and striker Gary
O'Toole, whose contract has been terminated.

Webber Completes Citizens Switch
|
Bangor City have completed the signing of former CPD Porthmadog captain Lee Webber. The Central defender surprisingly had his contract cancelled by mutual consent a few weeks ago and Clayton Blackmore has wasted no time in snapping up the highly rated and influential player.
Born in St. Helens, Webber originally signed for Port shortly before the end of the 1998-99 season and re-joined in 2000/1 following a season with hometown club St. Helens Town. Lee was the Supporters' Player of the Season for 2002-03 and also had a very successful season in 2003-04. After making 100 appearances for the Club in the League it came as a shock for all that the two parties agreed to split, and after playing just four games this year for the Traeth team, Webber will be pleased to get back on the field, but this time, in the blue of
Bangor City.
The timing of the signing couldn't be better for the Citizens as he is available this Saturday, exactly 28 days after his last game which is the standard procedure for contracted players. He should go straight into Blackmore's team in a straight swap for the suspended Adam Docker, who was dismissed for two bookable offences last Friday evening against Connah's Quay Nomads.
Webber will be able to re-acquaint himself with his former team-mates quite soon as he'll make a swift return to Y Traeth in the Welsh Cup Third Round on November 4th. Webber didn't feature in Port's Second Round victory over Prestatyn so he is still available to the Farrar Road side. Ironically, he will again return to his old stomping ground just seven days later as the two teams meet in a Principality Welsh Premier League fixture.
He will be a welcome addition to the Bangor squad, as he joins fellow ex Port players Paul Roberts and Marc Lloyd Williams and as well as his excellent defensive qualities, he is also very dangerous with his head and potent from set pieces.
Also on the move is Connah's Quay goalkeeper, Dimitris Brinias. The Cypriot stopper, who was born in Australia, made a surprise appearance on the opening day of the season for the Nomads against Newtown, after signing on the eve of the Big Kick-Off following an injury to regular No. 1 Paul Smith. After making four starts and one substitute appearance, the twenty-two year old has left to join Cypriot side, AOAN Agia Napa.

The
seven wonders
|
Goal-hungry Carmarthen Town have sent a chilling warning to their Welsh Premier rivals.
Mark Jones's side have suddenly become the in-form team in the top flight and have scored an incredible 18 times in their last three matches.
Their latest demolition job came last Friday, with Kris Thomas grabbing a hat-trick in a 7-1 hammering of outclassed Caersws.
It followed a similar scoreline at Cwmbran in the Welsh Cup, plus a 4-0 defeat of the same side in the League Cup in midweek.
The victory at Caersws lifted Carmarthen up to fifth place in the Principality Premier ahead of Saturday's home clash with Connah's Quay. They are now just four points adrift of pace-setters The New Saints.
Boss Jones said: "Eighteen goals in three games speaks for itself.
"What was most pleasing was the fact that all the goals, bar the last one, were footballing goals.
"I had a full squad to choose from and I've had to disappoint one or two players. We started on fire and we kept it going throughout.
"They all played well but I was pleased for Kris Thomas. He deserved his hat-trick."
Jones, however, will not be resting on his laurels ahead of Saturday's encounter at Richmond Park. Connah's Quay have the same number of points as Carmarthen and showed what they are capable of with an impressive 3-0 defeat over Bangor last week.

Legg leaves Llanelli
|
Former Welsh international Andy Legg has left Llanelli after three months at Stebonheath Park.
The ex-Swansea and Cardiff City midfielder has joined Nationwide North club Hucknall
Town. Legg has decided to make the move as it is only 20 minutes away from his Nottingham home.
After featuring in both Uefa Cup matches against Odense, Legg went on to play six domestic games for Llanelli.
After missing out on the squad for the Welsh Premier victory over Haverfordwest last Friday, Legg then featured in Hucknall's 2-1 victory over Scarborough the next day.
Llanelli manager Peter Nicholas paid tribute to Legg, who he insists has left on good terms.
"We are sad to see him go. We understand his reasons and we leave on good terms. Andy's experience has helped us a lot. He did a very good job,'' said Nicholas.
The Reds have lost another midfielder, with ex-Northern Ireland Under-21 international Ryan Maxwell joining Isthmian League Premier Division side Tonbridge Angels.

Reds' Ryan leaves Stebo

Llanelli Midfielder Ryan Maxwell has left the club to join English outfit Tonbridge Angels, who play in the Isthmian League Premier Division. The 23 year old joined the Reds in the summer and was a member of the UEFA Cup squad, starting in the home leg draw against Gefle in the First Qualifying Round.
Ryan, a right sided midfielder, was signed during the 2006 close season from Bishop Stortford, but has struggled to command a First Team spot, with Lee Phillips impressing in that position on Friday night against Haverfordwest.
Maxwell began his career as a Youth player at Crystal Palace before he signed professionally with Reading. He then transferred North and joined Hamilton Academicals. He then signed for Raith Rovers in January 2004 but struggled to make an impact with the first team and he was released by mutual consent in January 2005 after just four first team starts with 7 substitute appearances. Jeffrey
quits Swans for ambitious Reds
|
Swansea City assistant youth coach Bob Jeffrey has left his post at the Liberty Stadium to become Llanelli's Academy
director. Jeffrey, who worked alongside David Moss in the youth set-up, has been given the job of developing Llanelli youngsters over the next few years for the first team.
The former Carmarthen Town keeper will run the rule over five teams ranging from under-12 to under-19 level.
Joining his coaching set-up is former Swansea midfielder Richie Appleby, who currently plays for the Stebonheath side, and defender Wyn Thomas along with Andrew Beckett and Rob Thomas.
"What we have here is a five-year plan with an ambition to get young footballers in Llanelli playing for their team - the town team," said Jeffrey.
"Every player in the town should want to play for this club and I want to give them the opportunity to do so.
"It's a massive challenge but it's one I am relishing.

Summers helps inspire Ponty
|
Chris Summers is leading Pontypridd Town's quest for promotion from the MacWhirter Welsh Football League.
The former Cardiff City player has fired 10 goals in Pontypridd's last 10 league and cup matches.
Their latest win was a 3-2 Division One triumph at Taffs Well when Summers scored twice.
Ponty's ambitions will make that a big clash as a number of clubs, including Neath Athletic and Bridgend Town, aim for success.

Port
Talbot inflict 1st defeat on champs
|
|
Port Talbot move to within a point
of league leaders, following their 2-1 home win over New Saints, at the Remax,
and still have a game in hand.
Port Talbot who haven't beaten
New Saints in quite a while pulled off the surprise while missing as few of
their first choice players.
It started well enough for
Saints as they took the lead on 19' through a Nicky Ward goal. But in the 2nd
minute of the 2nd half Dylan Blain levelled the game.
It looked like it was heading
for a point each until sub Richard French scored in injury time to inflict the
Saints first league defeat of the season.
It was also Ports biggest
attendance of the season with 478.

Mutton joins the Centurions
|
|
Connah's Quay Nomads moved up to
sixth in the Principality Welsh Premier League table with a convincing 3-0 home
win over North Wales rivals, Bangor City.
The match was a double
celebration for the impressive Nomads as crowd favourite Tommy Mutton scored his
100th Welsh Premier League goal, when he struck Nomads' third in the 64th minute
to seal the game.
The Nomads always looked in
control and their fans were delighted to see Mutton complete the rout becoming
just the 15th player to celebrate this personal milestone. The jubilant crowd of
over 350 was the Nomads largest of the year.

Injuries mount for Port Talbot's big test
|
PORT TALBOT put their promising start to the Principality Welsh Premier campaign to the test when leaders The New Saints visit the
Remax stadium tomorrow.
The match has been switched to Sunday to avoid clashing with Wales' Euro qualifier against Slovakia and there will be no top tier action today.
Just when the season was going smoothly for manager Wayne Davies - second-placed Port Talbot lie four points adrift of the reigning champions with a game in hand - an injury crisis has blitzed his squad.
Definitely out are Robert Cocking, Chris Hanford, Dean Johnston, Tom Hooper and Michael Davies.
And Andrew Mumford, sent off in last week's 3-2 Welsh Cup victory over Haverfordwest, is suspended.
On a more positive note for Davies, Leigh DeVulgt and Chris Pridham should both start after recovering from injury.
"We have a few problems to say the least but we'll still give it our best shot," Davies said.
"We've a good record against TNS recently.
"I believe it's five draws in six matches. So it's about time we beat
them."

Last
night's welsh premier round up
|
Last night, Llanelli were involved in an epic struggle with Haverfordwest before clinching a tense 3-2 home victory to move into second spot.
The visitors, who earlier appointed former Manchester United and Cardiff City defender, Derek Brazil, as new manager in succession to Deryn Brace, threatened a shock first league win of the season.
Lee Phillips fired the home side in front within a minute of the start, with Tim Hicks netting for the visitors barely a minute later. A Craig Williams goal regained the lead for Llanelli, but Haverfordwest showed battling qualities as Hicks found the target with his second before a moment of brilliance from Jacob Mingorance settled matters in the second half.
Carmarthen romped to a thumping 7-1 triumph at Caersws in a surprisingly one-sided affair. A Chris Thomas hat-trick led the visitors spree, with Danny Thomas (2), Nathan Cotterrall and Kaid Mohamed also on target. Ross Stephens scored a second half consolation for hapless Caersws.
Adam Dickenson, Craig Garside and Tommy Mutton led Connah's Quay Nomads to a 3-0 defeat of Bangor City while Aberystwyth beat bottom of the table Newi Cefn Druids 3-0 with goals from Craig Jones, Stuart Fraser and Andy Edwards.

Andy
Legg staying with Llanelli
|
Andy Legg is staying at Llanelli, despite website reports suggesting he had left the
club. Legg was the subject of an approach from Nationwide North side Hucknall Town.
Legg turned down the offer, but the Welsh Premier League's official website ran a story claiming the former Ipswich and Birmingham star had agreed to the move.
Reds manager Peter Nicholas complained to the Welsh FA on the release of the false story, although he did not rule out the possibility of Legg leaving Stebonheath Park.
"Hucknall approached Andy, but he said no," Nicholas said. "The story went on the website and they realised it was a mistake.
"Hucknall would have to signal their intentions anyway by putting out a seven-day approach on him, which they haven't.
"I can't say he won't leave. It is right on his doorstep, but I don't want him to go."
The Nottinghamshire club are currently eighth in the Nationwide North league and are managed by former Chelsea striker Kevin Wilson.

Maesteg
are back in the welsh, having lost to Cardiff Corinthians 3-1. But Cardiff
Corinthians fielded an ineligible player Rhys Yates who has played for Taffs
Well, but did not have international clearance after coming home form the

The
FAW committee met on Tuesday and Cardiff Corinthians were found guilty and
expelled from the welsh cup along with a fine of £150.
But
Corries woes don't end there, they could still be kicked out the league and
Shamrock cup for the same offence and docked league points for the games that
Yates was involved in.
Maesteg
now reinstated will play Cwmbran Celtic for the right to meet Llandudno for a
place in the 3rd round. No date has yet been set for their tie with Cwmbran

Barry
strengthen squad ahead of Neath game
|
|
Barry
Town entertain Division One leaders Neath at Jenner Park this Friday (7.30pm) in
their first home league match for a month.
The
Dragons will be boosted by the return of 27 year old Canadian central midfielder
Jeff Maclean who played professionally for Barry Town a few years ago.
Barry
Town are also close to signing another former professional as they look to
climb the table with games in hand over teams above them. Neath will be a
tough match but the new Barry team is starting to take shape and play good
football. As long as the Dragons can eliminate defensive lapses, they could
surprise top of the table Neath in Barry's first floodlit match of the season.
Another
big crowd is expected at Jenner Park as students and children accompanied by
adults again have free entry to the match. Midefielder Matthew Driscoll is
likely to return after missing two matches due to a hamstring injury while
Manager Gavin Price can select from a full squad for the first time this season.
Barry
Town Club Captain, Lee Piotrowski, from Palmerston, Barry, believes the Town
will soon start putting some good results together. "When a new team is
formed, even good players take some time to gel together. Our squad has plenty
of quality and fans should see a big improvement over the next few games. We
have shown against some teams like Bridgend away in the League Cup (1-2 after
extra time) that we can outclass opponents on our day. Now we just need to get
the consistency to start performing to our potential".

Club
in bid to save U-19's
|
|
CAERLEON are desperately trying to save their Under-19 soccer team and are holding a SOS meeting tomorrow night at the clubhouse, writes Ray Parker.
The Cold Bath Road club, competing in the MacWhirter Welsh League, Youth Division (East), had to withdraw from the Welsh Youth Cup on Sunday handing opponents Dinas Powys an easy passage into the next round.
David Griffiths, Caerleon’s former manager and now chairman, said: “It would be really tragic if they have to pack in because we have a good Under-16 side and they will have nowhere to play.
“When training started the manager (Keith Davies) had around 20 players, but week on week he lost them. I can fully understand the manager’s position because he should not have to go around begging.
“We are holding a meeting tomorrow night to try to sort things out. The league is a decent standard and I am sure there are lads who want to play. Hopefully, we can turn things around. Everything is going well in the club and we don’t want to lose this team.”

Goal
galore in Loosemores cup
|
|
There was another convincing win for Connah's Quay Nomads against the hapless Airbus UK in Group B. The Nomads won 7-2, which improves their goal difference and could prove vital when they and The New Saints battle it out for top spot in the Group next week. Airbus' Dave Purcell scored in his own net before Adam Dickinson scored twice before the interval. The Nomads scored four in the second half inevitably through the prolific Marc Limbert from the spot and Tommy Mutton, with Craig Garside and Chris McGinn completing the rout.
The New Saints themselves also enjoyed a comfortable win against NEWI Cefn Druids in the same group as they put five past the Ancients, with Dixie McNeil's side scoring just the consolation goal through Mike Heverin. TNS socrers were Mike Wilde, Nicky Ward, Alfie Carter, Steve Beck and there was a special moment for Rob Williams who netted his first senior goal for the club.
In Group A, Bangor City won the Welsh Cup Third Round dress rehersal at Y Traeth by 2-1, which sees them move to second place in the fiercely contested Group with Rhyl already qualified. The Citizens played the whole second half without a recognised 'keeper with Manager Clayton Blackmore taking the gloves after stopper Ian Havard was injured in the First Half. New signing Kyle Jacobs scored two in six second half minutes, whilst Port's Mark Cook scored a consolation with two minutes remaining after coming off the bench.
Rhyl defeated Caernarfon 3-1 at Belle Vue with Andy Moran scoring a first half brace and Jamie Brewerton sealed the win on forty minutes. Gerard Maloney netted on 65 for the Canaries who are now out of contention.
Caersws continued their good form with a convincing 3-0 home victory against Mid Wales rivals, Aberystwyth Town to ensure that Group C will go right down to the wire. Ross Stephens scored a brace and Geraint Lewis added a third in the First Half for the Bluebirds. A draw in the Welshpool v Newtown game tomorrow will see both Caersws and Aber progress.
There was another convincing victory for Mark Jones' Carmarthen Town against Cwmbran, as they strolled to a second victory in the space of four days. The Old Gold put seven past Gareth Wesson on Saturday in the Welsh Cup and debutant goalkeeper Keiran Blackburn fared only slightly better conceding four without reply. Danny Thomas opened the scoring on 20 minutes and Mattie Davies added a second four minutes later. The game was all but finsihed when Kris Thomas scored against his old club on 28 minutes and Davies, also a former Crowe, scored his second on 65 minutes.
Finally, in the same group there was a modest revenge for Haverfordwest, who finally defeated their rivals Port Talbot, who rested a number of players, by 2-0 at The New Bridge Meadow. Striker Tim Hicks scored both goals in the last fifteen minutes for the West Walians. The Steelmen had previously beaten the Bluebirds in the Principality Welsh Premier, FAW Premier Cup, Welsh Cup and Loosemores Cup, but given the fact that Deryn Brace's team have already been eliminated from the competition, it's scant consolation.

GB football team to enter Games
|
|
The British Olympic Association is pressing ahead with plans to enter a Great Britain football team at future Games, despite opposition.
At a meeting on Thursday, it was agreed that British men's and women's teams will compete at the 2012 London Games.
However, neither the Welsh nor the Scottish Football Associations attended the meeting.
"We will be going ahead anyway," said BOA boss Simon Clegg. "It is the BOA who selects the Games team."
New director of performance Sir Clive Woodward said the BOA had the option of selecting players even if the two FAs fail to agree to the concept of a combined team.
"The Olympics is a very special occasion and if a player from any of the four countries wanted to play, I think it would be a shame if they were not allowed to participate," said Woodward.
Great Britain will play with one team but it is up to them how they do it
Fifa president Sepp Blatter
"If the football teams were put together with strong squads and a strong coach I think they would have a real medal chance."
The Welsh and Scottish FAs fear that involvement with a British Olympic team could threaten their separate status with the European and world football governing bodies.
"The Football Association of Wales will not undertake anything that would jeopardise its position as a separate nation within Fifa and Uefa," said FAW secretary David Collins when the idea was first mooted.
However, Fifa president Sepp Blatter has assured them this would not be the case.
"We have confirmed that the four British associations will not lose their rights and privileges acquired back in 1947," he said.
"Great Britain will play with one team but it is up to them how they do it. It can be a mixed team, it can be from just one of the home nations, whatever they want to do."

Deryn
Brace to step down at Haverfordwest
|
|
Haverfordwest
County has been informed by their player manager, Deryn Brace, that because of a
change in work commitments, he will be relinquishing his post as
manager at the Club at the end of this calendar year. He added that he hoped to
continue at the Club in his role as a player for the foreseeable future.
Club
Chairman, Robert Summons, said that, over the last four years, Deryn Brace had
made a colossal contribution and he had battled on successfully, very often in
adverse conditions. The Club would always be grateful for his loyal service and
the credit he has brought to the Bridge Meadow.
During
his reign as manager, the Club qualified for the FAW Cup three
times and the EUFA Cup in 2004. His influence on and off the field has been a
major contributory factor in promoting an abundance of local
talent to such a degree that two thirds of the present Welsh Premier League
squad are Pembrokeshire based players.
Bob
Summons added that he was actively seeking Deryn Brace's successor as manager
and that he hoped an appointment would be made within the next month or
so.
It
has been reported that tonight's league cup match will be Deryn's last game in
charge.

Taffs Well

Neath are top on goal difference from Taffs Well and Aberaman, all with 16

Welsh
league round up

Maesteg Park
completed a quickfire MacWhirter Welsh League division one, double over
Croesyceiliog, triumphing 2-1 at Woodland Road.
Maesteg,
who won 3-0 at home the previous week, led 1-0 at the interlude on the back of a
25-yard piledriver from Richard Stevens. Gareth Davies doubled the lead in the
70th minute, heading home a palmed save from goalkeeper John Bailey, while
Croesyceiliog completed the scoring during injury time on the strength of a
disputed Chris Watkins penalty.
Bryntirion missed out on the chance to replace Neath Athletic at the top, going
down 2-1 to Taffs Well at Bryntirion Park.
Andy Hammett fired the Cardiff side ahead early on and although Martin Dando
levelled in the 50th minute, Steve Edwards hit in a superb 25-yard winner during
injury time.
In the second division, Garw made it five wins from as many starts with a
laboured 2-1 win at lowly AFC Llwydcoed thanks to goals from Thomas Hopper and
Ashley Burge.
Despite piecing together a strong display, Briton Ferry went down 2-1 at
Caldicot.
Dan McGrath scored direct from a free-kick as the sides turned around on 1-1.
However, McGrath was then sent off during a controversial incident that turned
the course of the game.
It resulted in Caldicot being awarded a 55th-minute penalty that was converted,
but late on Ferry just missed out when David Spendiff and teenager Richard Evans
both shot narrowly wide.
With defeats in the third division for Gwynfi United, Cwmamman and Seven
Sisters, the only ray of sunshine came at Llantwit Fardre with Ystradgynlais
winning the day, 2-1.
A goal adrift early on, Ystrad squared matters in the 35th minute through Jamie
Williams while Craig Hopkins knocked in a late winner as the Swansea Valley side
celebrated a first win of the season.
Seven took a weakened side to Risca and lost 3-0, Cwmamman went down 2-0 at home
to Pentwyn Dynamos while Gwynfi suffered a 2-0 loss against AFC Porth at the
Cape.

Port
Talbot hang on to clinch win
|
Port Talbot 3-2 Haverfordwest
AFTER the final whistle, Port Talbot manager Wayne Davies was content with the result, but not pleased that his side had been forced to hang on desperately over a fraught final 20 minutes.
Chad Bond had put the home side 2 - 0 ahead after just 17 minutes. Everything looked rosy.
However, centre- back Andrew Mumford was shown a straight red and, even after the game ended, Davies proclaimed himself "mystified" as to why.
Tim Hicks reduced the deficit after 40 minutes, but Dylan Blaine struck for the home side a minute after half-time.
That seemed to make things easier, but another Haverfordwest strike, this time by Richard Adams, meant that the Victoria Road faithful had to endure that nervous last 20 minutes.

Welsh
cup round up
|
HIGH-FLYING Llanelli were determined not to slip up in their Welsh Cup second-round home clash with Bettws yesterday - and they were good value for a 5-0 victory to march into the last 32 of the competition.
Two up in the first 16 minutes through strikes by Neil Thomas and Stewart Jones, the Welsh Premier side never looked like being really tested, and Lee Phillips, Nicky Harry and Rhys Griffiths completed the rout.
There was plenty of cup excitement at Pontardawe where Pontypridd triumphed 2-1 in extra time. Andrew Hughes had given Ponty the lead on 57 minutes only for the Swansea Valley outfit to level matters a minute from time.
Then, however, 10 minutes into the second period Chris Summers struck to send Pontypridd into the next round.
Ely Rangers required penalties to get past neighbours Caerau-Ely, in the end winning 4-2 in the shoot-out after the scores had been level at 2-2 following regulation and extra time.
Ton Pentre gained sweet revenge over Llangeinor for a hammering they took earlier in the month in the Shamrock Travel Cup and they romped to a 6-0 Ynys Park victory.
Christian Orchard bagged a hat-trick while Tony Rees, Dwayne Mardenborough and Rob Blatchford were also on target.

FAW set for 'big three' Euro talks
|
WELSH football chiefs last night vowed to step up the fight to earn Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham a route back into European competition.
FAW secretary general David Collins will approach UEFA to discuss whether Wales' 'Big Three' club sides should be allowed to play in the Champions League or UEFA Cup.
The move comes after FIFA President Sepp Blatter last week gave his full backing to any renewed campaign to see the three Football League sides readmitted to the European game.
Speaking exclusively to Wales on Sunday Blatter said: "I have a lot of sympathy for these clubs who should be able to play in the European competitions.
"The situation at the moment is something that is not fair."
Collins last night welcomed Blatter's wholehearted support for what has become a long-running and uniquely complicated argument.
Collins said: "We have got to discuss the matter with UEFA and find out whether there will be anything profitable in it for us in light of what Sepp Blatter said.
"The FAW would certainly be willing to discuss the issue with the three clubs as well if they want to get together." Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham have been exiled from Europe since 1995.
The current UEFA rules state that only teams playing within the boundaries of their national association are eligible to represent them.
Therefore only sides playing within the Welsh Premier League are currently eligible to represent Wales.
As all three clubs ply their trade in the English Football League all three are effectively banned from playing on the European stage.
