AFAN LIDO 6-1 PORT TALBOT
By
Alan Howells
This match was
spoilt as a spectacle in the closing minutes of the first half when
two Port Talbot players were sent off in separate incidents. Up to
that point Port Talbot had given a good account and could consider
themselves unlucky to be 2-1 down.
We had taken the
lead after 3 minutes when Corey Thomas beat the keeper to a through
ball and slotted home the first. Port Talbot had the bulk of the
next twenty minutes play and deservedly equalised on 26 minutes with
a long range shot giving Josh Cokeley no chance. We regained the
lead on 36 minutes when a clearance hit Corey Thomas wide left and
he crossed for Shaun Best to hammer home the second.
In the second half
we knocked the ball around looking to tire the visitor's nine men.
On 57 minutes Paul Evans hit a screamer from 30 yards which went
inches wide. Two minutes later Shaun Best went down the right and
crossed for Corey Thomas to make it 3-1. Within minutes Shaun went
down the left and his cross was deflected in for an own goal.
On 68 minutes we
scored a rather bizarre goal, the ball was played back to the Port
Talbot keeper who delayed his clearance kick. Corey Thomas closed
him down and the keeper kicked it against Corey with the ball
rebounding into the net for Corey's hat-trick. On 72 minutes we
scored our final goal, Carl Payne hit the crossbar and the rebound
fell nicely for Calvin Reid to hammer home with his left foot from
just inside the area. Credit to the Port Talbot lads for not giving
up and to our lads for some excellent goals.
