AFAN LIDO 3-1 NEATH ATH

The under 19's
defeated Neath Athletic 3-1 to maintain their unbeaten record for
the season.
Carl Payne gave us
the lead after 6 minutes when he reacted first after the keeper had
saved a free kick and headed home from 6 yards. Both
sides used the long ball and there was not a great deal of
constructive football. Neath should have
equalised after 13 minutes when a free kick was headed goalwards but
David Anderson tipped it over for a corner.
5 minutes later it was our turn to have a free kick into the box,
once again there was confusion in the visitor's defence but
Corey Thomas fired
wide when well placed. 45 seconds into the second half we went 2-0
up when a cross from the right was misjudged by the defence and
Steve Hughes headed
over the keeper into the empty net. We weren't able to build
on this start however and from yet another free kick Neath reduced
the arrears. David Anderson under pressure punched clear it
was picked up by a Neath player who played it back into the
box for their striker to react first and fire home. With their
tails up Neath strode forward looking for the equaliser and David
Anderson made a
fine diving save to his left to maintain our lead. On 76
minutes we had a free kick on our right which eluded everyone
except Carl Payne who arrived late in the box but he misjudged his
header and the chance went.
With the
temperature dropping we eventually secured the result when Shaun
Best beat the offside trap high in the Neath half and
with defenders trailing him he fired home from 12 yards. There was
still time for David Anderson to again excel in goal with
another fine save.
