WELSH LEAGUE U19

GOYTRE UTD 2-2 AFAN LIDO

By Peter Reynolds

The Boys Clubs of Wales under 18 side had a game last night which coincided with this game.
It meant we were without Josh Cokeley, Josh Cockings, Damon Thomas and Corey Thomas.
However the players that came in did well and no-one better than Ceri Cook who was making his youth team debut.
As you'd expect Goytre took the game to us in the early stages but didn't cause us any major problem.
Our first effort on target came via a Remi Whitelock free kick that went straight to the keeper.  Ceri Cook was then
involved and on 25 minutes shot just wide.

On 32 minutes Remi took a free kick that Steve Hughes headed just wide.
The opening period of the second half was a carbon copy of the first. Again Goytre pushed forward with Rory McCreesh
making a good save at the expense of a corner.

On the hour mark Goytre got the ball in the net but it was disallowed, the ball having gone for a goal kick before the cross into the centre was made. Five minutes later we took the lead, the referee awarding us, from our view of it, a dubious penalty which Remi Whitlock netted.

Goytre levelled on 74 minutes when some poor defending allowed them a strike on goal.  After 81 minutes a Remi free kick was headed goal ward by Carl Payne, it had goal written all over it but the Goytre keeper made a brilliant save to deny us.  Four minutes from time we went behind, the assistant referee flagged for a foul, the referee gave a penalty although the assistant didn't put the flag across his chest to indicate that he thought it was a penalty.

In added on time we forced a couple of corners and following an almighty goalmouth scramble the ball ended up in the net. I've given the goal to Aaron Keefe although there are claims that Carl Payne scored it. Hopefully this will be cleared up over the weekend. Prior to the corner which led to the goal we made a claim for a second penalty for hand ball which was turned down.

Unfortunately Shaun Best was sent off for comments he made to the ref who then issued several yellow cards to the disappointed Goytre players.

We retained our unbeaten record despite the four lads missing and this sets up the match v Merthyr next Tuesday.
