WELSH LEAGUE U19

AFAN LIDO 3-1 CARMARTHEN TOWN

By Peter Reynolds

The youth completed their home matches with a 3-1 win over Carmarthen. We had a much changed side with a number of players omitted as they are playing on the weekend for the Boys Clubs of Wales in Scotland.

As expected it took us some time to settle and we went one down after 7 minutes when a through ball caught us out. Minutes later it should have been 2 but Jay Evans got a touch to the ball and diverted it onto the post. There wasn't a lot of constructive football played by either side but after 25 minutes we did get a four man move together but a poor cross resulted in a goal kick. We had our best chance to equalise after 40 minutes when Damon Thomas went through the midfield and fed Calvin Reid but from a good position he shot over the bar.

We gained a corner early in the second half, Remi Whitelock took it and the keeper completely misjudged it but they managed to clear. Remi Whitelock was coming more into the game and he tried an ambitious shot from outside the box but it was straight at the keeper. We equalised after 54 minutes when Liam Fisher split the defence and played Shaun Best in on the right, he got into the area and shot across the keeper scoring from 10 yards. Within a minute we were 2-1 up, the Carmarthen defence lost the ball and Liam Fisher played the ball to Remi Whitelock who lifted it over the keeper as he came out. On the hour Liam Fisher tried his luck from the edge of the box but his shot went just wide. On 79 minutes Liam Hughes fed Remi Whitelock who was closed down by the keeper the ball was cleared but straight to Tom Darlington but his first time shot went over the bar.

We made the game safe after 81 minutes when Liam Hughes received the ball 35 yards out and with the keeper on walkabout he fired into the empty net. The youth now have one match left, they are away to Briton ferry on Sunday May 13th
